The relationship between emotional intelligence, locus of control sense of coherence in a market research organisationFeldman, Janine 02 1900 (has links)
The primary objective was to determine whether there is a relationship between emotional
intelligence, locus of control and sense of coherence in a market research organisation. A
secondary objective was to determine whether individuals from various biographical groups
differed significantly in terms of emotional intelligence, locus of control and sense of coherence. A
sample of 179 participants completed the Bar-On EQ-i, Locus of Control Inventory and Sense of
Coherence Scale.
There was a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence, locus of control
and sense of coherence. No significant gender differences were found. Furthermore, the findings
showed differences between occupational levels in terms of both internal locus of control and
sense of coherence, but not for emotional intelligence. No significant differences were evident
between education, work experience or age in terms of the three constructs.
An emotional intelligence intervention programme was recommended, as well as the use of an
emotional intelligence assessment instrument. Recommendations for future research included
broadening the relevance of the results. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)

Employer branding & Wellness syndromet : Kan employer branding om friskvård verka som en isolerande faktor?Sällinen, Iida, Järvinen, Siiri January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine in what way a strong employer branding of health promotion can have an effect on the ways individuals can experience isolation and stress. In this survey we have used the theories of health promotion, organizational culture, isolation and stress in an analysis of the possible situation caused by strong employer branding of health promotion. We have used these theories in analysis with the purpose to answer the following questions: How does a strong employer branding of health promotion influence those employees who, for some reasons, don’t take advantage of organizations’ health promotion programs and activities? Could those, who don’t take advantage of health activities, become isolated in a company? The method of research that was used in this study is a qualitative analysis; we used semi structured interviews and open e-mail correspondences. The material was collected from nine different organizations as the response from ten interviews. The result of the analysis show that is possible for an individual to experience isolation and stress as a result of an organization’s employer branding on health promotion. At the same time these individuals can experience that they are indirectly obligated to consider their everyday actions from the health promotion perspective, which we have assumed to be a result of the possible punishments and rewards from their leaders. The conclusion is consequently that a strong employer branding can affect an individual’s social situation within an organization, but it is problematic to see in which scale. The result has revealed that employer branding of health promotion is a possible cause for isolation and stress.

RECREATIONAL MUSIC-MAKING IN MUSIC PEDAGOGY: A MANIFESTO FOR CHANGEWood, Brandon Keith 01 January 2012 (has links)
The arts are an essential part of any student’s well rounded education. The future of music in education will depend on its ability to deliver relevant, effective, and measurable outcomes. However, the expectations and performance nature of traditional curricula often foster a sense of musical elitism and ostracizes students that are solely interested in music as a recreational outlet. Incorporating recreational music-making into education can provide opportunities for students to experience self-expression, creativity, social connection, and enjoyment. These values will not only enhance their education, but also lead to acquired skills for use in all areas of their lives. Activities such as drum circles, for example, break down the musical elitism that has been reenforced through barriers of economy (purchasing instruments), technique (learning a required skill set), and language (learning to read music).
This document will establish a case for recreational music-making in education through examination of the role of music education, the concept of recreational musicmaking, and the numerous health and wellness benefits associated with recreational music-making. Included will be a discussion of elementary, secondary, and higher education music curricula. Additionally, the importance of using percussion instruments will be established along with explanations of basic techniques. Finally, a discourse about the language barrier in music is included. The intended results of this document include creating an educated audience for music professionals, a larger presence of music-making in society, music advocacy and support, improved creativity and self-expression for professional and amateur musicians, strengthened community connections, and an overall improvement in health and well-being for music participants.

探索靈魂:保健旅遊商業計畫 / Shalom Spiritual Retreat: Wellness Tourism Business Plan徐少宜, Hsu, Shao I Unknown Date (has links)
探索靈魂:保健旅遊商業計畫 / Wellness tourism is used instead of health tourism in order to avoid the confusion between medical tourism. In research conduct by industries of Wellness and Medical tourism (GSS, 2011), argue that the term health tourism is sometimes used to describe medical tourism; other time it is used synonymously with wellness tourism; sometimes it means both; and it is also used to refer to a subset of medical tourism or wellness tourism. This is why it is recommend-ed to avoid the use of health tourism term, especially in marketing purposes and communica-tion with customers.

School policies and the health promoting school (HPS) : an investigation in primary schools in the North West Province / Ramatshediso Samuel MokhoboMokhobo, Ramatshediso Samuel January 2007 (has links)
A series of acts which were passed during the apartheid era have undoubtedly
deprived the marginalized groups, namely, the so called Coloureds, Indians and
the black majority their political rights. Apartheid policies enshrined in the then
constitution, ill-considered the wellbeing and wellness of these groups, while at
the same time, a white minority was solely privileged. Being the victims of
segregation, the deprived groups continuously suffered from the political, and
socio-economic setbacks, which disabled them to lead healthy lifestyles. Racial
division which was prevalent in many workplaces, particularly in the mining
sector, disadvantaged many of them, blacks in particular, to perform skilled
labour. They were therefore destined to perform unskilled labour which classified
them as cheap labourers, hence meagre wages. The results of segregation bore
the fruits of abject poverty which impacted negatively on many. Problems of
housing and infrastructure are still confronting many households to date since
scores of them are 'shack dwellers' nationwide, living in squalid conditions which
are a threat to their health. Overcrowding and poor teaching and learning were
prime causes of learners to discontinue their education prematurely. High dropout
rates became prevalent mostly in rural areas, where schooling
accommodation was limited. Schools can only be safe places of teaching and
learning when all horrifying acts of violence such as sexual abuse, rape,
intimidation, assaults, bullying and murder are urgently eliminated. All the
stakeholders in education should collectively work together to ensure that health
promotion in schools is maintained.
Against the abovementioned background the primary aim of this research was to
determine what health promotion entails within the context of a selected group of
10 primary schools in the Southern Region of the North West Province. A
qualitative research methodology was selected to achieve this outcome. Data
was gathered by means of focus group interviews. The transcriptions were analysed generating items that were labeled as main categories and subcategories.
Pertaining the main categories it was evident that are several
aspects that can determine the health and well-being in a school. These include:
the leadership of the school, the role of the parents, the duties of the educators,
the existence of plans and the policy concerning HIV/Aids. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2007.

The relationship between emotional intelligence, sence [sic] of coherence, optimism and life satisfaction of students / Karina JansenJansen, Karina January 2006 (has links)
Emotional intelligence is a growing area of behavioural research; it recently grabbed the
attention of some of the major organisations worldwide.
The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between wellness and
emotional intelligence in order to develop a structural model of psychological well-being.
The following constructs were looked at, Optimism, Sense of Coherence, Life
Satisfaction, Emotional Intelligence are all seen as good indicators of Psychological well-being.
A cross-sectional design was used for this study. The participants (N=324) were students
within the field of economic science. The Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, the Life
Orientation Test Revised, the Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Orientation to Life
scale were administered.
Using a principal component analysis, a six-dimension factor structure for emotional
intelligence among students emerged, explaining 45,24% of the variance. These factors
were labelled positive affect, emotions-others, happy emotions, emotions-own, nonverbal
emotions and emotional control.
The most significant correlations found in this study was that Sense of Coherence is
significantly positively related to Emotions Management and Life Satisfaction and
significantly positively related to Emotions-Own, Happy Emotions, Positive Affect and
Optimism. Sense of Coherence was negatively related to Pessimism. Emotions
Management is significantly positively related to Emotions-Own, Happy Emotions,
Positive Affect, Optimism and Life Satisfaction. Positive affect is significantly positively related to Optimism. Pessimism is significantly negatively related to Life Satisfaction.
Optimism is significantly positively related to Life Satisfaction.
After conducting a second factor analysis on the factors of the SEIS, LOT-R, SOC and
SWLS, two factors were extracted, namely interpersonal and intrapersonal mastery.
Using these factors, along with the results of the product-moment correlations, a
psychological well-being model was designed and compiled.
The results showed that Interpersonal mastery consisted of Positive Affect, Emotional
Management, Sense of Coherence, Life Satisfaction and Optimism. Intrapersonal mastery
consisted of Emotions-Others, Emotions-Own, Happy Emotions and Non-Verbal
Emotions. It is evident from the above that the psychological well-being model consisted
of intrapersonal mastery and environmental mastery.
Recommendations for future research were made. / Thesis (M.A. (Industrial Psychology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2007

Spirituality, health locus of control, and wellness in organizational health promotion and wellness programsGauthier, Janine E. 08 1900 (has links)
The relationship between an individual's level of spirituality, health locus of control, and participating in wellness activity was investigated. The relationship between spirituality, health locus of control on physical health was also investigated. The research question was based on prior studies that reported people who are more spiritual are healthier. Does their spirituality lead to increased levels of health, or are individual's who are more spiritual more likely to proactively take control of their health and engage in health promoting behaviors? One hundred and fifteen male and female employees completed The Spiritual Involvement and Beliefs Scale (SIBS), a spirituality measure, The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale, a measure of locus of control related to health and healthcare, and The Center for Disease Control's (CDC) Health Risk Appraisal, a self-report measure of participation in health behaviors. Physical measures of health were obtained by obtaining Body Mass Index, blood pressure readings, and a cholesterol screening. The current study looked at level of spirituality (internal, external), level of health locus of control (internal, powerful other, chance) and participation in wellness/health promoting behaviors and health. Correlational analyses were performed on the relationship between spirituality and health locus of control. Hierarchical multiple regressions were performed on the internal spirituality and internal health locus of control to examine the relationship between spirituality, health locus of control and positive health behaviors and level of physical health. Stepwise discriminant function analysis using spirituality and health locus of control as predictor variables for the health-behavior criterion variables were performed. Discussion of the results, limitations of the current study and recommendations for future research were presented.
