Die fokus van hierdie studie is die verkenning van grondslagfase opvoeders se belewings van die opvoeder-leerder verhouding. Positiewe sielkunde is gebruik as die teoretiese raamwerk vir hierdie navorsing, en ‘n fenomenologiese benadering is gebruik as die metodologiese struktuur van die kwalitatiewe studie. Hierdie studie van opvoeder-leerder verhoudings in die grondslagfase is gerig op die bydrae wat dit kan lewer tot leerders se goeie prestasies, hulle positiewe ontwikkeling, sowel as die opvoeder se eie werksbevrediging. Dit dra ook by tot die welstand van opvoeders, leerders en die skoolgemeenskap. Alhoewel gesonde verhoudings in die skoolgemeenskap van die allergrootste belang is, blyk dit dat die doelbewuste uitbouing van die skoolgemeenskap se verhoudingswelstand as belangrike sosiale hulpbron verwaarloos of afgewater word.
Die volgende navorsingsvraag het na vore gekom: Wat is grondslagfase opvoeders se belewings van die opvoeder-leerder verhouding? Die perspektief van die positiewe benadering van sielkunde is gebruik om die meganismes van gesonde verhoudings binne die skoolgemeenskap bloot te lê.
Daar is gebruik gemaak van ‘n kwalitatiewe navorsingsmetode om die fenomeen te verken. Inligting is verkry deur middel van individuele onderhoude en ʼn fokusgroepbespreking as navorsingstegnieke. Doelgerigte steekproefneming is gebruik en nege grondslagfase opvoeders verbonde aan ‘n privaatskool in die Gauteng-provinsie van Suid-Afrika was deelnemers aan die navorsing. Die doel van die studie was om grondslagfase opvoeders se belewing van die opvoeder-leerder verhouding te verstaan. Tydens die proses van data-insameling is daar visuele en tekstuele data verkry. Deelnemers het collages gemaak ter beskrywing van hul belewing van die opvoeder-leerder verhouding; daarna is individuele onderhoude en die fokusgroepbespreking gevoer. Klankopnames van die versamelde data is getranskribeer, en ‘n narratiewe analise is gedoen. Bevindinge van hierdie studie is vervat in vier hooftemas: Die rol van emosies en verhoudingswelstand, opvoeders se verhoudingsvaardighede, werksbevrediging, uitdagings en verhoudingswelstand. Hierdie bevindings omvat die gesonde hantering van emosies, doelgerigte bevordering van verhoudingsvaardighede, die belewing van werksbevrediging, en die ervaring van uitdagings wat oorwegend gekoppel is aan welvarende leerders se huiskonteks. Die bevindings is verder verfyn in die subtemas wat die grondslagfase opvoeder se alledaagse belewing van die

The aims of this study are to establish: • what work satisfaction entails • which factors influence the work satisfaction of the principal according to the available literature • which factors in teaching practice influences the work satisfaction of the principal.
To achieve these goals both an empirical and a survey of the
literature was conducted. The study of the literature was
undertaken from primary and secondary sources. After the
characteristics and factors of work satisfaction have been
established and discussed, a questionnaire was drafted.
From the literature the following factors, the need of acknowledgement,
the need to excel, relationships within the
school, physical circumstances at work, and the status of
the principal were identified as important.
A systematic sample was used in which principals of primary
schools in the Northern Cape were involved. The information
gathered was processed with the aid of a computer. After
processing, the data was interpreted and findings were
established. According to the findings recommendations were
made.
The empirical investigation indicated that principals have
reasonable work satisfaction but that there still are
certain factors that should be addressed. Some of these
factors are a healthy relationship with pupils, colleagues
and subordinates and the line of communication between the
school and Education Department.
Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the
empirical investigation. The most important recommendations
are that the line of communication between the school and
Education Department should be improved, and that
achievements of the principal in his working environment

The aim of this study is to optimise aspects of job satisfaction in the work environment to improve the effectiveness of primary school principals. Job dissatisfaction seems to be a worldwide problem in the education sector, even in South Africa a number of researches were conducted on job satisfaction.
In this research the focus is on the following research questions: What is the nature of job satisfaction? Which factors contribute to the job satisfaction/dissatisfaction of primary school principals? To what extent do primary school principals experience job satisfaction? Do certain biographical variables relate to primary school principals’ job satisfaction? How can the job satisfaction of primary school principals be improved through management strategies?
The research method used was a quantitative research method by using statistical methods that began with the collection of data based on theory, followed by the application of a descriptive or inferential statistical method. Descriptive statistical techniques were used to organise, analyse and interpret the quantitative data. Information was obtained to determine whether a relationship exists between the independent variables and the dependent variable (job satisfaction of the participants).
Management strategies with aims, goals and action steps were drawn in order to assist primary school principals to improve their strong points and turn their weak points into strengths. The management strategies drawn also aimed to improve the job satisfaction of the primary school principals. In general the majority of participants in this study reported that they were satisfied to some and a great extent with the aspects that contribute to their job satisfaction. Although the majority of the participants were satisfied with the aspects of job satisfaction there were some factors that affected them negatively. pharmacists and pharmacy students in the study population; and

Results: It was noted that many organisational characteristics could influence the employee
perceptions. From the analysed questionnaires, characteristics that include growth

characteristics.
The most important remuneration packages in the studied population were analysed to be:
* A basic plus benefit system was preferred
* A skills-based pay as the base of the remuneration package

merit
* Incentives calculated from amount of personal output and not by business unit or
organisational profit
* Share options were popular as an added benefit
It should be noted that the preferred remuneration packages do differ between students,
pharmacists, pharmacy managers, different age groups and experience groups and can be

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the work
satisfaction of inspectors of education in the Northern Cape. This aim is
achieved by firstly conducting a literature study on the nature of work
satisfaction and factors responsible for inspector work satisfaction and/or
work dissatisfaction. Secondly an empirical investigation is conducted on the
perceptions of inspectors about factors influencing their work satisfaction.
Finally, recommendations are made through which inspectors of education
can achieve optimal work satisfaction for themselves.
Findings from the literature study indicate that work context and work contents
factors influence inspector work satisfaction. Work context factors mainly
concern supervision and working conditions. Working conditions include
aspects such as physical working conditions, leadership, interpersonal
relationships, policy, participation in decision-making, salary, work safety,
work security and the organizational climate. Work context factors relate to
inspectors' needs for psychological growth and self-fulfilment viz., the needs
for responsibility, recognition, promotion, the work itself and professional
development.
Findings from the empirical investigation indicate that the respondents are
less satisfied in their jobs than is generally reported. Inspectors regard the
satisfaction of work context factors as very important and are partly
contended that these needs are satisfied. However there are numerous work
context factors from which they derive relatively little work satisfaction, inter
alia, working conditions with regard to some supervisory activities,
participation in decision-making and strategic planning in the department of
education, work security and work safety. The factors within the work
context are experienced as mostly satisfying.
The recommendations of this study emphasise the necessity of an effective
line of communication between the Education Department and the regional
office, and the Education Department should launch a penetrating
investigation into the filling of vacancies at the level of inspectors. With the
aim on participatory management as many as possible role-players should be
involved at provincial level. With the aim of professional development of both
newly appointed inspectors of education and more experienced inspectors of
education a professional inclusion program must be developed regarding

The aim of this research is threefold:
• to determine the nature of job satisfaction;
• to determine the factors which influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools; and
• to determine which factors influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools in practice.
In order to achieve these aims a literature study and empirical study were undertaken.
The literature study was based on primary and secondary sources. A DIALOG
computer search was undertaken with the keywords such as: work motivation; work
satisfaction, teaching conditions; teacher motivation, secondary school and principal.
The nature of job satisfaction was then discussed. Once the management factors that
influence work satisfaction of principals were identified, they were grouped and
discussed under the following headings:
• factors that centres in the principal himself;
• factors situated within the school;
• factors at management level;
• factors within the community; and
• factors within the teaching career.
A questionnaire was compiled from existing questionnaires (that of Hillebrand, 1989;
Esterhuizen, 1989; Du Toit, 1994; Engelbrecht, 1996 and the Minnesota Importance
Questionnaire, 1985).
All principals at secondary schools in the Northern Cape Province, excluding schools of
Correctional Services, were taken as target group in this research. The questionnaires
were sent to principals within the target group. The information was statistically
analized with the aid of a computer after with it was interpreted. Subsequent to these
results recommendations were made.
The empirical study showed that principals at secondary schools experience
reasonable work satisfaction but that there are still certain factors which should be
addressed.
Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the empirical investigation. The
most important recommendations are that the problem of work security should be
addressed, rationalisation and assessment of teachers should be planned carefully and
the communication between the school and the Education Department should be
