Problematisk skolfrånvaro : Samverkan mellan skola och hem ur tre vårdnadshavares perspektiv / Problematic school absenteeism : Collaboration between school and home from the perspective of three guardians

Compulsory schooling in Sweden is mandatory for everyone due to existing school attendance laws, and all students have the right to an education. Schools are considered a protective factor to prevent children and adolescents from taking a wrong turn in society, instead shaping them into good citizens through education. Good collaboration betweenschool and home is a crucial part of the remedial efforts for students with problematic absenteeism, just as maintaining good cooperation with other stakeholders such as child psychiatry services, social services, and attendance teams is essential. The purpose of this study is to enhance the understanding of how guardians of children with problematic school absenteeism experience their situation, to provide school staff and principals with deeperknowledge in the area. In the study, I have applied two different special educationalperspectives, the relational and the categorical perspectives, to develop an understanding of how guardians perceive the collaboration between school and home based on their children's absenteeism. Based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, the differentenvironments in which the students are involved interact and serve as a starting point for understanding the student and their situations. The study involved conducting semi-structured qualitative interviews with three different guardians, revealing perceived deficiencies in the collaboration between school and home. It is clear that a key success factor for increased school attendance is having good relationships between teachers and students, as all guardiansexpressed that this creates security for their children and increases the chances of their children attending school more easily. My conclusion is that there are many different factors affecting a child's problematic absenteeism, and that each situation is complex. Good collaboration between school and home is also shown in several other studies to be a significant and promoting factor in increasing school attendance, indicating that guardians play an important role in the attendance-promoting work from the school, especially for students with problematic absenteeism who often need their parents to advocate for them.
