Gramatikalizační potenciál anaforické funkce lexému ten v mluvených narativech / Grammaticalization potentiel of the anaphoric ten in spoken narative discourse

Zíková, Magdalena January 2017 (has links)
In my Ph.D. thesis, I examine the use of referential devices in spoken narrative discourse with predominant anaphoric reference. Special attention is paid to the relationship between two competing forms: lexical phrases containing the lexeme ten (ten-MARKED NPs) and lexical phrases not containing it (UNMARKED NPs) in repeated mentions. A primary aim of the work is (i) to identify factors favouring the use of ten-marked NPs at the expense of unmarked NPs and (ii) to explore the possibility of the lexeme ten grammaticalizing from its anaphoric use. Theoretically and methodologically I benefit mostly from the conception of discourse anaphora and the theory of grammaticalization. The referential devices are systematically explored in terms of their distribution into different classes according to a set of parameters and their values. These parameters reflect the conceptual (animacy), grammatical (syntactic function, type of clause etc.) as well as discourse characteristics of the forms and their referents (informational status of the NP in the clause, activation and persistence of the referent, etc.). The data consist of 45 short narratives produced by 15 speakers. The speakers' task was to retell three short silent-movie sketches which they had seen immediately before the recording. The design of the...

Risk management in liquefied natural gas ports and marine terminals supply chains

Briouig, Mohamed January 2014 (has links)
Due to its environmental attributes, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a clean fossil fuel source of energy has witnessed a steady increase in demand worldwide over the last decade. This increase is mainly attributed to higher demand from the power generation sector as well as from domestic and industrial usages .This growing role of LNG among competing energy sources has raised concerns over the safety and security of the LNG chain of production, transport and distribution and its related infrastructure. Within this context, LNG ports and marine terminals, being strategically located at the midstream of the LNG Supply Chain (SC), are further exposed to safety and security risks and represent credible targets for international terrorism. Ensuring uninterrupted, robust and resilient LNG SC requires first, adequate management of safety and security risks in LNG ports and marine terminals. While each discipline of risk, be it safety or security, has received significant attention both in theory and practice, less attention was given to the management of interfaces and shared impacts among LNG Ports safety and security risks which led to the existence of gaps in the risk management (RM) systems of LNG ports and may represent a major source of risk and disruption to LNG ports. This research addresses such gaps which are poorly addressed in the current literature and proposes a holistic and integrated approach to the issues of LNG ports safety and security risks assessment and management. It also aims to model safety and security RM from a SC perspective and examines the relationships and shared impacts among LNG ports safety and security risks in the present context of increased LNG demand worldwide in the post 9/11 terrorism era. A unique combination of multiple methods within port and maritime SCs, including a Delphi survey, quantitative survey, Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) and a focus group expert consultation, is applied to reformulate the prevailing RM approach marked by dichotomy and a disciplinary silo and to propose a more enhanced and holistic approach to safety and security RM. The results of the study confirm that an integrated and holistic approach to the issue of RM in LNG ports and marine terminals is necessary to cost-effectively address safety and security risks and ensure reliable and resilient LNG SCs. Furthermore, a practical framework, in the form of a conceptual model, for LNG ports risks and emergencies management is proposed which integrates all facets of safety and security risks and emergencies management, including risk prevention, mitigation, emergency planning and response and port business continuity. The proposed conceptual model shows how the proposed RM approach can be practically applied in the context of LNG ports in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, as well as in any LNG port worldwide which lacks an integrated approach to risks and emergencies management.

Hořejší, Veronika January 2013 (has links)
Title: Voluntarism in Sports - FIS Nordic Junior & U23 World Ski Championships Liberec 2013 Objectives: The main target of the thesis is to evaluate the area of voluntarism during the FIS Nordic Junior & U23 World Ski Championships Liberec 2013 and to suggest recommendations for working with volunteers during other future sports events in the Liberec area. Methods: The method of electronic survey and subsequent observation was chosen for the research. The sample of respondents was chosen from the team of FIS Nordic Junior & U23 World Ski Championships Liberec 2013 volunteers. Results: The research showed that the organization of the volunteer program at FIS World Junior and U23 athletes was evaluated by the volunteers very positively; however, the research revealed weaknesses in the individual items of the agenda. The improvements are focused on the recruitment part of the program, training of the volunteers and the final evaluation and rewarding of the volunteers. Based on the results of the research, the draft of recommendations and proposals, which are suitable for further work with volunteers at sporting events, was compiled. Keywords: Voluntarism, volunteer, FIS Nordic Junior & U23 World Ski Championships Liberec 2013, methods of working with volunteers.

Analysis Of The Influence Of Non-machining Process Parameters On Product Quality By Experimental Design And Statistical Analysis

Yurtseven, Saygin 01 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis illustrates analysis of the influence of the non-machining processes on product quality by experimental design and statistical analysis. For the analysis objective / dishwasher production in Arcelik Dishwasher plant is examined. Sheet metal forming processes of dishwasher production constitutes the greatest portion of production cost and using the Pareto analysis technique / four pieces among twenty six pieces are determined to be investigated. These four pieces are the U Sheet, L Sheet, Inner Door and Side Panel of the dishwasher. By the help of the flow diagrams production process of the determined pieces are defined. Brainstorming technique and cause&amp / effect diagrams are used to determine which non-machining process parameters can cause pieces to be scrapped. These parameters are used as control factors in experimental design. Taguchi&amp / #8217 / s L16(215) orthogonal array, Taguchi&amp / #8217 / s L16(215) orthogonal array using S/N transformation and 28-4 fractional factorial design are used on purpose. With repetitions and confirmation experiments the effective parameters are determined and optimum level of these parameters are defined for the improvements on scrap quantity and quality of production.

Associates Of Social Deviancy And Violence Among Prisoners

Erkunt, Adonis Cigdem 01 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This study aimed at finding the associates of social deviance and violence by using the variables of self-esteem, coping styles, social support, family relations, and life events in Turkish prisoner sample. The prisoners were a hundred male prisoners who are under arrest for different crimes, in istanbul Special Type Prison. Preceding the main analyses, Factor Analyses for Multidimensional Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Ways of Coping Scale (WOCS) were conducted. These analyses yielded three factors for MSPSS, as social support from friend, social support from a significant other, and social support from family / and two factors for WOCS, as problem focused and emotion focused coping. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was conducted to examine the type of crime differences for the measures of the study. The offenders were separated into two groups according to their crimes: violent and nonviolent crimes. The prisoners who acted nonviolently scored significantly higher in self-esteem scores. Prisoners that acted violent crimes were significantly more depressed and they show significantly more antisocial behavior than the prisoners that acted in nonviolent crimes. There was no significant difference found between the two groups in terms of their anxiety levels. Results indicated a main effect for social support, coping style, and family relations. To understand social deviance through the variables of the present study, a hierarchical regression was performed. The results indicated that presence of previous suicide attempts, unhealthy relations in the family, physical violence in the family towards the subject, the scores gathered from depression and paranoia subscales of MMPI, anxiety scores on BAI, hypomania scores on MMPI were found to account for 59% of the total variance in social deviance in terms of higher scores on psychopathic deviate subscale of MMPI.

Use Of Solid Phase Extraction For Preconcentration Of Rare Earth Elements: Provenance Studies In Catalhoyuk Obsidians

Ozturk, Sema 01 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Obsidian has been a center of interest both for geologists and archaeologists. Geologists have studied on physical and chemical properties of obsidian where archaeologists have worked on this material as a common artifact found in excavations. In this study, obsidian samples from &Ccedil / atalh&ouml / y&uuml / k excavations are examined using their rare earth element (REE) concentrations. Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) have been used for this purpose. A mixture (4:1) of lithium metaborate and lithium tetraborate was used for fusion of samples. Because of the low concentrations of REEs, a preconcentration step is needed. Successful recovery results have been achieved with Amberlite IR-120. The developed method is tested using the standard reference material SARM-1.
