An Organizational Communication Analysis of a Medium-Sized Newspaper

Howze, Sara Baldwin 01 January 1977 (has links) (PDF)
A medium-size newspaper in Central Florida was observed for 8 weeks in the Spring and Summer of 1976 and 58 employees interviewed to determine internal communication patterns and measure attitudes toward the communication system, organization and job related variables. A system theory of organizations provided basic theoretical assumptions. Since communication activities occur within the framework of internal organization elements such as structure, objectives, leadership style, reward system, technology, intergroup relations, and individual employee characteristics, those elements were described. Communication activities were reported in terms of message purpose, network traversed, method of diffusion and relationships. Findings indicated that the nature and technology of the organization were more important predictors of communication activities than other elements. Messages were primarily task related, diffused both horizontally and vertically over formal and informal networks. The method of diffusion was primarily oral in face to face dyadic of small group situations. Analysis of attitudinal data indicated that communication satisfaction was the most important predictor of organization and job related attitudes. Persons occupying the lowest levels in the organizational hierarchy were the most negative about the communication system and were least involved in in. Persons occupying the upper levels were the most positive about the system and were the most involved in it. A factor analysis of the attitudinal data revealed 14 factors to be considered in future research.

Applying Photographic ResearchMethods to Organizational Research

Ray, Joshua L., Gorman, C. Allen, Cowell, Eva Lynn 30 October 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this session is to provide interested researchers with information regarding the development of photographic research methods in the social sciences, their potential as a novel qualitative tool in organizational research, and the decisions that are required when planning or conducting research leveraging these methods. The intent of this session is to promote the integration of photographic research methods and organizational research by emphasizing the unique contributions that photographic research methods can provide as a data source and as a tool to facilitate interactions between researcher and participant, and communication from researcher to audience.

Zwischen Anspruch und Realität: Evidenzbasierte Qualitätsentwicklung durch Integration von Qualitätsmanagement und Hochschuldidaktik

Ansmann, Moritz, Seyfried, Markus 29 October 2020 (has links)

Relationally Reflexive Practice: A Generative Approach to Theory Development in Qualitative Research

Hibbert, P., Sillince, J., Diefenbach, T., Cunliffe, Ann L. January 2014 (has links)
No / In this article we explain how the development of new organization theory faces several mutually reinforcing problems, which collectively suppress generative debate and the creation of new and alternative theories. We argue that to overcome these problems, researchers should adopt relationally reflexive practices. This does not lead to an alternative method but instead informs how methods are applied. Specifically, we advocate a stance toward the application of qualitative methods that legitimizes insights from the situated life-with-others of the researcher. We argue that this stance can improve our abilities for generative theorizing in the field of management and organization studies.

Narrative Sinnstiftung in Organisationen

Rätzer, Matthias 17 July 2015 (has links) (PDF)

Zaměstnanecká angažovanost v organizaci / Employee Engagement in the organization

Holcová, Lucie January 2021 (has links)
(in English): The diploma thesis is focused on employee engagement in a specific organization and its analysis. It is based on the assumption that employee engagement can be perceived as an overarching concept based on the theory of role quality, motivation, satisfaction, and leadership, and that employee engagement has an impact on employee productivity and increases the results of the organization. In this diploma thesis, we rejoin the question of what is employee engagement in a specific organization, what is the differentiation according to employee department, and what factors affect the employee engagement. First, the thesis pivots with the terminological grounding of employee engagement and the discussion that surrounds this approach. Then, an analysis of the employee engagement is performed, focusing on ongoing organizational changes due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Finally, the thesis proposes few recommendations that the organization can implement and thus improve employee engagement.

What Makes the EU Tick? : Understanding the Role of Ideas in the Design of the European Institutions in a Novel Way

Framba, Alice January 2021 (has links)
This Research is aimed at becoming a theoretical contribution to the field of European Integration Theory and IR for two reasons. Firstly, this Research proposes the theoretical perspective of Talcott Parsons from sociology and organizational research to scholars within IR Theory. By employing the historical institutionalist and social constructivist IR perspectives and Parsons's 'four-function paradigm' theory, scholars can identify the two effects of a successful institutional design of international political organizations such as the EU: effectiveness and a good public reputation. The Literature Review in Chapter 2 is a theoretical discussion about compatibility of the Parsonians concepts of 'adaptation', a 'holistic approach to policymaking', 'success', and the 'European institutional design' with the European Integration Theory and IR fields. The same Chapter stresses the need to consider the 'ideas' of political leaders in analysing change of institutional design. The second reason for which this Research is a contribution to IR theory is the presentation of eight specific strategies that are likely to generate an organization's success. The eight strategies are institutional conditions making up the 'eight-condition model' of Charles Edquist. This Research adopts an objective and deductive approach that applies the Parsonians theory and the Edquist's 'eight-condition model' to empirical data about European institutions in a cross-sectional and longitudinal research design in the Analysis Chapters 4, 5, and 6. A 'holistic innovation policy approach' to supranational policymaking is employed by the Researcher for the salient circumstances of success to be identified, in order to guide data collection and analysis. The results show that success occurred three times: fully, in the years between 1945 and 1958 and from 1959 to 2002, and partially from 2003 until our days. The concepts of 'adaptation', 'success', 'ideas', the 'four-function paradigm' theory of Parsons and the 'eight-condition model' of Edquist are discussed and ultimately claimed to be both epistemologically compatible and methodologically valid for studies about the success of European integration in the Discussions and Conclusions Chapter.

Narrative Sinnstiftung in Organisationen: Ein Konzept zur Erforschung von Organisationen am Beispiel der stationären Altenpflege
