No. of bitstreams: 1 Luciana Fortes Farias.pdf: 24712291 bytes, checksum: d8760f57e945d0cde298c31a44b38539 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-11-04 / This work is discussed the conceptual model of a multi-agent system for environmental monitoring with the use of biomarkers of aquatic organisms present in the port complex of São Luís-Maranhão-Brasil, second most important in the country in cargo handling. Located in the São Marcos Bay, this complex have an estuarine ecosystems which have suffered attacks in the current process of economic development, caused by intense port handling, dumping of ballast water and washing the vessels, overfishing, introduction of exotic species in the middle pollution in urban and industrial effluents, subject to severe environmental impacts that should be monitored. Methodologically, the modeling of the monitoring solution, we used the existing environmental conditions and aquatic life caught in two different sites of the port complex, the first in a potentially contaminated area and the second in a contamination-free (control), proposing the creation of a network of sensors in these locations. Invest conceded data by Carvalho-Neta (2007) whose research includes to catch fish in these perimeters, then submitting them for laboratory analysis to measure the enzyme activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST) and Catalase (CAT), the result was processed and recorded in bio-ontology . The core of the solution of Multi-agent system is based on the results derived from the biochemical analysis of GST, inspiring the modeling software agent that simulates the behavior of this enzyme. The solution also includes an application running on mobile devices that makes the collection of environmental variables in the selected points, validates them and makes the inference of those who could not be collected. Multi-agent System for Environmental Monitoring of the Port Complex of the Island of São Luís-Maranhão- Brasil, therefore, is made up of the bio-ontology, sensor networking, mobile application collection and inference of data from environmental conditions, software agents to simulate biochemical analysis, calculation of GST activity and other staff related to the maintenance and security of the SMA.

Habilidades viso-perceptuais e motoras na Síndrome de Asperger / VISUAL-PERCEPTUAL AND MOTOR ABILITIES IN THE SYNDROME OF ASPERGER

Ida Janete Rodrigues 23 June 2010 (has links)
(Transtorno Invasivo do Desenvolvimento). This study aimed to verify the existence of visual-perceptual-motor function changes in patients with Asperger syndrome or PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder). To that objective, a study was developed with two groups of thirty male between 12 and 30 years old. Thirty of these people with Asperger\'s syndrome, were diagnosed by the DSM-IV-TR, Autistics Stroke Scale (ATA), with QS greater than or equal to 70 through the Adaptive Behavior Scales Vineland. The performance scales were statistically analyzed and compared with the results of thirty people with normal development. Both groups were tested for Imitation of gestures Bèrges & Lèzine, Piaget-Head, Bender, Cubes proof of Wechsler scales and Pelotas social scale. All people were tested in a standardized way. The choice of the people and tests application had been performed in specialized schools and clinical centers. Analyses of results showed significant differences and deficits in visual motor perceptual organization of individuals with Asperger syndrome.Statistical analysis by T-independent between the two groups points to the differing responses of the Aspergers group with significance (p 0.05 / 0.05), thus emphasizing the better overall performance on all scales applied in the control group. The complexities surrounding the notions of spatial perception and motor action as well as the handedness proved remarkable difficulties in the population studied, being necessary new studies, prevention, treatment and guidance to family and school

Presenting learning possibilities through branching storylines : A case study of epic proportions

Wilhelmsson, Andreas January 2011 (has links)
This paper concerns the creation and evaluation of a branching story written by the author. Branching storylines are unique in that each branch delivers a different experience, wherefore this paper poses and attempts to answer the question, is it possible to offer similar learning experiences regardless of which story path is taken in a branching story structure? As a case study, the story is written for a pervasive game, an application for Android phones. Due to the game’s design and wishing to motivate the players to move around on their own, it was written to be segmented and yet have linear, branching storylines. The case study consisted of creating a game set at a historical site, specifically Karlsborg fort, where the story would give the players an idea of how a day in the life of a sergeant could have looked in 1865. After testing and knowledge-based questionnaires, the data body proved minute, wherefore no significant conclusions are reached; however, it is suggested story nodes are useful for giving each player equal possibility of gleaning specific knowledge from the game, gathering all storylines in event scenes where the specific knowledge is presented.

Pervasive service computing: community coordinated multimedia, context awareness, and service composition

Zhou, J. (Jiehan) 22 November 2011 (has links)
Abstract This thesis introduces a novel Web service-centric solution to pervasive computing, called Service-oriented Pervasive Computing (also called Pervasive Service Computing), which enables computer systems to deal with context in the user’s environment, to dynamically discover and compose existing services, and to develop Internet-scale multimedia applications that support users’ activities. First, this thesis introduces the concept of Pervasive Service Computing and its relation to community coordinated multimedia, context awareness, and service-oriented computing. It then investigates the state of the art, the practices, and techniques which have been developed to support such services. Building on these tools, this study adopts a service-oriented methodology to design a reference model for Pervasive Service Computing, for accommodating specified technical requirements. This model can serve as a guide for research and development towards Pervasive Service Computing. Second, the thesis examines the nature of community coordinated multimedia, and develops the concept of Community Coordinated Multimedia (CCM). To discover the potentials of discoverability and composability of multimedia applications, the thesis introduces a model for Service-oriented Community Coordinated Multimedia (SCCM), and demonstrates the idea of “multimedia application as a service.” Furthermore, the thesis presents a content annotation service and evaluates its feasibility as an end-user prototype. Third, the thesis investigates the nature of context awareness in Pervasive Service Computing, to broaden the definition of context and context-awareness. This research introduces context-aware pervasive service composition (CAPSC) applications, and specifies three-levels of context awareness. Building on this framework, the context-aware service composition prototype is implemented. Fourth, the author examines the overall potential of service composition in Pervasive Service Computing, distinguishes its two main functions as service collaboration, and service coordination, and then develops an ODPSC (Ontology-Driven Pervasive Service Composition) ontology. To address the availability and scalability of service composition, the thesis introduces options for dynamic service composition in the Cloud, and develops an accelerated Cloud architecture for service composition in the Cloud (namely CM4SC middleware). Last, the CM4SC middleware as a service prototype is implemented. Tämän viitekehyksen avulla toteutetaan tilannetietoinen palvelujen kokoamisen prototyyppi. Neljänneksi työssä arvioidaan jokapaikan tietotekniikan palvelujen kokoamisen mahdollisuuksia, tunnistetaan sen kaksi keskeistä toiminnallisuutta, palvelujen yhteistoiminnallisuus (service collaboration) ja palvelujen koordinointi (service coordination), sekä kehitetään ODPSC (Ontology-Driven Pervasive Service Composition) -ontologia. Työssä esitetään saavutettavuuden ja laajennettavuuden haasteisiin ratkaisuksi dynaaminen palvelujen kokoaminen pilvipalveluna. Työssä kehitetään kiihdytetty pilviarkkitehtuuri (CM4SC-välikerrosohjelmisto) palvelujen kokoamiseen pilvessä. Lopuksi työssä toteutetaan CM4SC-välikerrosohjelmiston palveluprototyyppi.

OF MASTER DEGREE Name: Bc. Andrea Gebauerová Supervisor: Mgr. Anna Kuželková Consultant: PhDr. Milan Pešák Oponent: Title: Alternative communication for clients with pervasive developmental disorder Abstract: The main purpose of this thesis was to find out and describe options and meaning of accupational therapy intervention in the area of alternative communication for clients with pervasive developmental disorder. These clients always show specific disrupted areas, which are social interactions, game and communication. The areas are interconnected and restrict these individuals in their self-sufficiency and daily life. Most of these clients need a compensation tool for communication. The theoretical part deals with most used methods and tools in alternative communication. It describes the simplest communication systems to the latest assistive technologies, which are used mostly abroad. An important part for the clients is an interprofessional team of proffesionals, who together determine therapeutic purpose and problematic parts of clientś life. The practical part describes the most common interprofessional cooperation at the clients. Based on jointly stated purpose for six clients with pervasive developmental disorder was design ergotherapeutic intervention and were suggested optimal tools for...

Une approche autonome pour la gestion logicielle des espaces intelligents / An autonomic approach for the software management of smart spaces

Gouin-Vallerand, Charles 23 June 2011 (has links)
The arrival of new approaches such as the pervasive computing create new technologies, which improved the quality of the interactions with the I.T. systems, However, the broad utilization of the pervasive computing and the development of smart spaces are facing several challenges. The large number of hardware and software components and their heterogeneous natures, contributes to the complexity of deploying and managing these environments, resulting in high costs. This thesis contributes to the software management of the smart spaces by reducing the complexity of the management tasks. Our proposal consists of an autonomic approach to software management based on the autonomic pervasive computing. As part of this work, we propose a solution using the environment’s contextual information to determine the software distribution among the environment’s devices, which best fits the needs of the software, environments and the interaction modalities and preferences of the environment’s users. The proposed solution was implemented and evaluated using a series of tests and software organization scenarios

Special Education Teachers' and Speech Therapists' Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Whaley, Carol Hendrix 01 December 2002 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to survey special education teachers and speech therapists in eleven school districts in Northeast Tennessee regarding their knowledge level (etiology and educational programming) of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The primary focus of the study was to identify effective programs and methods used by special educators in this region, comparing them to the latest techniques and teaching methods prescribed by recent research. In addition, identified weaknesses were used to recommend future training and staff development to enable educators to provide the best possible programs for children with autism. Five hundred fifty-two surveys were disseminated to special education teachers and speech therapists in eleven school districts in Northeast Tennessee. Two hundred ninety-two professionals responded to the survey, resulting in a return rate of 52.9%. Educators were asked to respond to a total of 44 questions (28 true/false items and 16 multiple choice items). The multiple choice items were designed to obtain demographic information, job related characteristics, preparation and experience teaching students with ASD, and professional needs of special educators in this region. The 16 multiple choice items were categorized into knowledge of ASD etiology and ASD educational programming. The results of the study indicate that there were no marked deficits in special educators' knowledge levels (etiology and educational programming) of ASD. However, the scores on educational programming were consistently higher than scores on etiology. There is a need for further training because very few special educators have been trained in research based methods currently used with students diagnosed as ASD.
