Job Skills, Tolerance, and Positive Interactions: The Gendered Experiences of Appalachian Migrants

Alford, Kelli Brooke 01 December 2011 (has links)
The following study examines gendered learning experiences of a population of Appalachian migrants surveyed from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. The respondents who participated in the survey used for this study began their lives in Appalachia. These respondents then left Appalachia for various other areas in the country and even around the world only to ultimately return to the mountainous region later in their lives. To begin, theory will be introduced concerning the stratification of gender in the Appalachian economic landscape, as well as a theoretical framework placing Appalachian women in an interlocking web of oppression with other subjugated cultural groups. This outsider kinship found among Appalachian women and other socially ostracized groups, I argue with the support of theory, will foster an atmosphere of tolerance and positive interaction among Appalachian females and the people they meet in their new homes. Literature will also be presented regarding the heavily skewed nature of the role of women versus men in Appalachian society and economy. Using logistic regression, various aspects of migrant experiences away from Appalachia will be examined and analyzed, including the acquisition of job skills, tolerance-based knowledge, and positive interactions with neighbors in their new environment.

Jeux combinatoires dans les graphes

Renault, Gabriel 29 November 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Apenuvor, Kossi Dodzi 21 November 2011 (has links) (PDF)

No. of bitstreams: 1 4379.pdf: 5882548 bytes, checksum: 024a4efb5386d9ecad4b08f3a21f893f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-05 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / The most recent process of productive restructuration of Alagoas´ sugarcane agro industry initiated in the 1990 modified profoundly the criterions of workers selections, the labor organization and its way of management. Those changes, which affect directly the workers, resulted in the intensification of the work rhythm, elevation of its productivity and decrease of job numbers. In the core of those configurations in the relationship between capital and work, the purpose of the present dissertation is to analyze how the exploration-domination of the labor force is processed and ways of resistance constituted by the sugarcane worker in Alagoas. To achieve this purpose, were realized field research and interview with sugarcane cutters, formers sugar mill residents, unemployed workers, brail operator, bituqueiros , cabos (inspectors) and leaders of rural labor union. The interviews were leaded by the oral history methodology. The municipal district of Teotônio Vilela was the empiric universe privileged, though it concentrates a large number of workers employed in many sugar factories in the south of Alagoas.

Santos, Charles dos 28 February 2013 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 5108.pdf: 898375 bytes, checksum: 2747b669981bce63ec5b3f8dd6578203 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-02-28 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / The purpose of this research is to shed light on the process of insertion and socialization of rural workers in the sugarcane industry from Alagoas. For this, we make use of the concept of antroponomia, coined by the French sociologist Daniel Bertaux, and that try to relate the stages of production of goods to production of people. We seek on the next pages analyze critically the historical facts that led whole families to lose their condition as moradores and smallholders and to have to sell its workforce to the sugar mills and alcohol installed in the region of the tabuleiros, where they carry out services underpaid and in many cases of unworthy way. It is our intent to observe the manner in which the peasant gave way to the rural proletariat and how occurred - and occurs- the production of new workers, often children and grandchildren of those who were expelled from the morada and proletarianized. The places we elect as locus of empirical immersion were the cities of Teotônio Vilela/AL and Pilar/AL, where we interviewed cane cutters, irrigation workers, herbicide applicators and administrators, among other agents. The data collection techniques used were the life history and the semi-structured interview.

Secretariado Sul Americano e Partido Comunista do Brasil (1926-1930) / South American Secretariat and communist party of brazil (1926-1930)

Carine Neves Alves da Silva 28 July 2011 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the views of the South American Secretariat (SSA), organ of the Communist International (IC), based in Argentina, and the relations between this agency and the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB). This research was conducted by studying the texts of the magazine La Correspondencia Sudamericana, the official magazine of the SSA, published between 1926 and 1930. From this study we identified the concepts of SSA with respect to parliamentary activities, trade unions, revolutionary propaganda and agitation, and in relation to the tactics of the proletarian united front. We analyzed the dominance exercised by the SSA in relation to the PCB, as well as the reformulation and radicalization that run through this agency between 1928 and 1930. The crisis of SSA in 1927 is to be linked directly to the crises do Communist Party of Argentina and the actions of the editor of La Correspondencia Sudamericana and councilman of Buenos Aires, Fernando José Penelón. It also analyzes readings taken by the Communists on the Brazilian national reality, the issues surrounding the passing of the scoundrel who put the PCB into lawlessness in mid-1927, the party attempting to engage in a rapprochement with the radicalized petty bourgeoisie, the electoral and parliamentary activity of the BOC, and the overlap between it and the PCB. It also investigates the process of assimilation by the Brazilian Communist radical political line of IC and the expectation of the IC and the PCB opposite the glimpse of the bourgeois democratic revolution in Brazil in late 1920, which provide, internally, the emergence of ?obreirismo? (?workerism?) in PCB.
