Por fim, procuramos compreender as diferentes determinações, internas e externas, econômicas e extra-econômicas, que definem o caráter dependente, periférico e subdesenvolvido do capitalismo latino-americano. / The present study sought to open a framework of analysis in which the categories of external domination, dependent capitalism and class society were treated according to the multiple determinations that bind them to each other in the context of Latin America. A first aspect to be emphasized is that our theoretical reflection sought to be based on the historical presuppositions that are at the root of the formation of dependent capitalism. For this reason, we began our work on the theme of Latin American colonization, understood as a pattern of external domination and economic exploitation, according to Florestan Fernandes's conception. Then, by reassembling it as a movement of history that produced the determinations of origin of classical capitalism in the hegemonic nations, it was possible to identify the existence of its Latin American variant, as well as to describe the structural and functional characteristics that they distinguished the two cases. Concomitantly, we made notes on the configurations that the economy, society and the State tend to assume in the different models. Finally, we seek to understand the different determinations, internal and external, economic and extra-economic, that define the dependent, peripheral and underdeveloped character of Latin American capitalism.

Language and gender : Male domination among the Kikuyu of Kenya, East AfricaWanjeri, Michael Maina January 2006 (has links)
Language and gender is one of the most intriguing and interesting areas in sociolinguistic study. It investigates how men and women (or boys and girls) use language differently in social contexts. Extensive study and research has been carried out in this field, particularly in regard to the English language. Eminent linguists such as Ronald Wardhaugh, David Crystal, Ralph Fasold, and Deborah Tannen have studied varying male-female use of the English language. They have also attempted comparison with other languages and cultures. Wardhaugh, for instance, has studied male-female use of language in English, American-Indian languages (such as Gros Ventre), Asian and Oriental languages (Yukaghir, Japanese) among others, and his findings have become the subject of several of his published works. In their investigations they have found that almost invariably, the way men use language shows them to be socially dominant over women. This persists even in such cases as in the Malagasy language spoken in Madagascar, where men display linguistic characteristics more popularly associated with women and vice versa (Wardhaugh). This paper seeks to determine whether men use language to dominate women among the Kikuyu ethnic group of Kenya, East Africa, to which I belong. Areas such as terms used to refer to men and women, taboo language and language use in marital situations are examined, among others. I also attempt to find out what influence this has had on English spoken in Kenya.

Šachové úlohy v kombinatorice / Chessboard problems in combinatoricsChybová, Lucie January 2017 (has links)
This master thesis discusses various mathematical problems related to the placement of chess pieces. Solutions to the problems are mostly elementary (yet sometimes quite inventive), in some cases rely on basic knowledge of graph theory. We successively focus on different chess pieces and their tours on rectangular boards, and then examine the "independence" and "domination" of chess pieces on square boards. The text is complemented with numerous pictures illustrating particular solutions to given problems.

La prostitution : une mesure de la marchandisation de la personne?Djender, Amélie 08 1900 (has links)
This paper aims to explore the normative assumptions underlying the conceptualization of
prostitution as a measure of the commodification of the person. I propose to question some of the
theoretical assumptions underlying the conceptualization of prostitution as a form of
commodification of the person. Insofar as prostitution is distinguished from other activities on the
basis of this symbolic status, my research consists in questioning the theoretical bases of this
normative characterization.
Feminist literature on the subject of prostitution focuses on the issue of the criminalization of
prostitution and its social stigmatization, but it is not reduced to a polarized debate between
abolitionists and regulationists. I will first identify how the subject of prostitution has been
problematized from different theoretical frameworks and present epistemic perspectives on the
conceptualization of the problem of prostitution. I will then identify and analyze the normative
paradigms that historically constitute prostitution as the measure of women objectification. Finally,
I will focus on Carole Pateman’s definition of prostitution in The Sexual Contract. My aim is to
identify in which extent the conceptualization of the prostitution contract as the symbol of body
commodification is relevant to understand the power dynamics underlying this type of agreement.
More specifically, I will study the normative assumptions underlying the distinction between the
prostitution contract and other contractual forms of subjection.

Foucalt a násilí: Genealogie národní sounáležitosti a zastupitelské moci v Turecku / Foucault and Violence: A Genealogy of National Belonging and Representative Power in TurkeyMaze, Jacob Alan January 2021 (has links)
The central aim of this dissertation is to introduce tools for studying a form of political violence in Michel Foucault's genealogical methodology. This is accomplished by reformulating theories from Hannah Arendt on violence to sync with Foucault's understanding of power, knowledge and experience. Violence is shown to be a relationship where one subject is prevented from fulfilling a strategy by another, which over time accumulates into widespread power relations, or nexuses of violence, within a society. This is contrasted with power, which is when one subject attempts to control the outcome of a situation, and as such it is productive. This method of genealogy is then employed in the case of national identity (i.e., nationalism) in Turkey. Tracing its historical emergence, the late Ottoman Empire becomes the focal point. A network of allegiances, referred to as sultanic power, constituted the relationships that were exercised prior to the nineteenth century. While one pledged their loyalty and subservience to their ruler, this required their ruler to offer them security and prosperity in return. Over the Long Nineteenth Century, a new network of power relations emerged based on representation through the practices and discourses that developed. I come to outline what I term representative power....

Millennium development goals ( MDGs ) and women - the implementation of article 10 ( 3 ) of the protocol on the rights of women in South AfricaNtanjana, Akho 31 October 2011 (has links)
Few would deny that the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) has achieved a lot in its quest to improve the pressing social challenges (such as poverty; illiteracy; HIV/AIDS; crime prevalence; preventable diseases, and high levels unemployment). It must be firmly said that these social ills generally affect everyone – particularly the historically marginalised group in South Africa. However, there are also few who would deny that South African women (including the girl-child), as it is the case elsewhere in Africa suffer disproportionately that their male counterparts. Some have supported the view that gender discrimination is the main source of women’s disempowerment today. For instance, society has accepted consciously or otherwise that women are inferior to men and as such cannot take part both in public and private spheres of life. It is nevertheless not the object of this study to delve into to the complex and often misunderstood causes of women’s marginalisation in South Africa. / Thesis (LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa))--University of Pretoria, 2011. / http://www.chr.up.ac.za/ / nf2012 / Centre for Human Rights / LLM

Emotional abuse in close relationships : analysis of women's experiences as expressed in a therapeutic settingMalherbe, Helena Dorathea 03 November 2006 (has links)
Although the focus of the study was the emotional abuse of women in close relationship, I argue that the patterns and processes in the abusive relationship, the positioning of both players show a close resemblance to abuse and violence on a macro-political scale. When I as a psychotherapist was continuously confronted with an increasing number of female clients relating stories of emotional abuse in close personal relationships, I started questioning the historical context, culture, societal beliefs and time-frame that constructed women to be in such a position. World wide voices are heard questioning the constant abuse of the other, the weaker, the different, and the marginalized, and much has been written about physical abuse, but the question was as to how this macro-phenomenon informs upon the emotional life of the individual woman. When it comes to abuse in close relationships, the victim usually is the female and not the male partner, which makes abuse a woman’s problem. As a result, I was interested in the truths of the woman in the abusive relationship and approached this research from the position of the other and not the oppressor. Feminist standpoint theory formed the basis of my epistemological and methodological thinking. This I practically implemented in my choice of method and my approach to interpretation of the research information. I undertook a qualitative study, utilizing descriptive methods to represent the stories of women from emotionally abusive relationships. The research was historical and location-specific, and led to the description of what I termed the Traditional Afrikaans Family and a legitimizing ecology for emotional abuse against women in close relationships. The experiences collected tell about emotional abuse as relayed by more than forty women in therapy. The data formed the background for the reconstruction and representation of four case studies and a thematic analysis pertaining to the positioning of both partners in an emotionally abusive relationship. A critical deconstruction of the mechanisms of power, domination, and control are explained. In doing so, emerging patterns in the abusive relationship were noted and described. Of particular interest to psychotherapists will be the description and analysis of the process of emotional abuse as played out in close relationships. In conclusion, I argued that emotional abuse in close interpersonal relationships is constructed in the interactions between the partners and within a legitimising context that warrants the male to dominate. The abusive behaviour emerges as a result of the patriarchal male wanting to establish or re-establish his dominant position while the female partner attempts to position him as someone that respects her as a person in her own right. / Thesis (DPhil (Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Psychology / unrestricted

Kvinnor som vårdar : En kvalitativ studie om normer och maktstruktrurer inom kriminalvården / Women in care : A qualitative study about how norms and power structures affect the Swedish Prison and Probation ServiceCorneliusson, Lovisa, Törner, Maja January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between the professional role of women in Prison and Probation Service and a qualitative equality perspective, as well as how they are treated by male colleagues and clients. In the annual report from Swedish Prison and Probation Service, it has been stated that the gender distribution is equal, which indicates quantitative equality. This study is based on a qualitative method, where interviews have been conducted with nine women between 25 and 65, who are working in custody or prison. The women have been given a chance to talk about their feelings and thoughts about their professional role in general and how they are being treated or affected by their male colleagues and clients. The result has shown that women are far more affected by the power structures and norms. Several women mention that male colleagues see them as weaker and make judgements about their physical capabilities. They also talk about how they are more caring of their clients, whereas the men are more focused on showing their strength and superiority. Finally, the main conclusion of this study is that there is no qualitative equality because of how the male role sets the overall norm. This, in turn, significantly affects women in their professional role of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
