Early English Organ Music: Some Contributions from the Mulliner Book of W. Blitheman, T. Tallis and J. Taverner: Together with Three Recitals of Selected Works of J. S. Bach, D. Buxtehude, M. Duruflé, C. Franck, G. Frescobaldi, J. J. Frogerber, P. Hindemith, O. Messiaen, M. Reger, J. H. Tallis, and C.-M. Widor

Lowry, David Michael 12 1900 (has links)
The lecture recital was given April 16, 1971. An Excellent Meane, six settings of Gloria Tibi Trinitas, Eterne rerum conditor, and Te Deum laudamus by William Blitheman, In Nomine by John Taverner, and Ecce tempus idonem by Thomas Tallis were performed, together with a choir of four men's voices, following a lecture on various aspects of organ music in early Tudor England. In addition to the lecture recital, three other public recitals, all solo programs, were performed. The first solo recital, including works of Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach, Paul Hindemith, and Max Reger, was performed on March 14, 1971. On October 23, 1972, the second solo recital was performed. The program included compositions by Olivier Messiaen, Johann Sebastian Bach, Cesar Franck, and Charles-Marie Widor. On October 17, 1977, the third solo recital, including works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Johann Jacob Froberger, Dietrich Buxtehude, James Hathaway Tallis, and Maurice Durufle, was performed. The four programs were recorded on magnetic tape and are filed with the written version of the lecture as a part of the dissertation.

Between a book and a soft place : an investigation into the contemporary teaching of typography and book design at South African Higher Education Institutions

Borgstrom, Liam January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the teaching of typography and book design in South Africa and how the literature relating to its education has changed during the course of the twentieth century. Several scholarly and educational book titles are compared to one another based on their approach to the subject and this is compared to the historical development of typographic technologies as they were developed in Europe. Based on the theoretical pool of the assessed books, a list of theoretical topics was drawn up and used to survey the current teaching intent of graphic design study programmes at South African tertiary education institutions. It was found that in spite of a less direct technical focus in the teaching and learning materials, training institutions within departments and faculties of arts have developed their graphic design programmes with the intent of developing students who are technologically proficient, readily employable, artistically fluent, and aware of industrial and historical conventions in their fields. However, they do not necessarily teach historical book design conventions, focussing rather on the skills and software required for contemporary design practice. / Dissertation(MIS)--University of Pretoria, 2016. / Information Science / MIS / Unrestricted

Dynamika poptávky a nabídky na burze / Order book dynamics

Peržina, Vít January 2017 (has links)
Main goal of this thesis is improvement of an order book model so that it behaved more realistically, based on a model developed by J. Plačková in her diploma thesis in 2011. We consider this simple model for evolution of order book in which limit orders of unit size arrive according to independent Poisson processes. Frequency of buy limit orders below resp. sell limit orders above a given price level is described by demand and supply functions. Buy (resp. sell) limit orders that arrive with price above (resp. below) the current ask (resp. bid) price are converted into market orders and cancellation of orders is not allowed. We extend this model by introducing market makers who place at the same time one buy and one sell limit order with current bid and ask prices. We show how introducing market makers reduces the spread that in the original model was unrealistically large and also show a method of calculating the precise rate of market makers needed to reduce the spread to zero. 1

Browning's The Ring and the Book in Twentieth-century Criticism

Blakney, Paul S. 01 1900 (has links)
Proceeding from the general judgment that The Ring and the Book is, indeed, Browning's greatest achievement, and that it, more than any other of his works, was responsible for establishing him in an extraordinary position of public acceptance and esteem, I propose, in this study, to examine the four features of The Ring and the Book which have most frequently attracted critical attention and to which the greater portion of analysis and review of The Ring and the Book have been devoted.
