Encurtando o caminho entre texto e ilustração : homenagem a Angela Lago / Shortening the way between text and illustration : homage to Angela Lago

Camargo, Luis Hellmeister de 22 February 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Marisa Philbert Lajolo / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-06T12:44:02Z (GMT). Para teorizar e historicizar essas categorias, recorro a alguns retóricos greco-latinos e renascentistas, a alguns ensaístas do século XX e a neurocientistas. / Abstract: The illustrated children¿s book is a ¿cultural object that blends visual and verbal codes¿ (LAJOLO, ZILBERMAN, 1984). To deal with this blend, five categories are suggested: 1) text support; 2) graphic enunciation; 3) visuality, i.e., mental imagery that the text elicit to the reader¿s mind¿s eye; 4) image, hence, illustration, as visual text; 5) dialogue between text and illustration. To theorize and historicize these categories, I discuss some Greek, Roman and Renaissance rhetoricians, some XX century essayists and some neuroscientists. I attempt to show the collaboration and usefulness of these categories, analyzing Cora Coralina¿s book O prato azul pombinho, with drawings by Angela Lago. / Doutorado / Literatura e Outras Produções Culturais / Doutor em Teoria e História Literária

O trabalho com o texto na produção de livros: os conflitos da atividade na perspectiva ergodialógica / The work with texts in book publishing: activity conflicts in the ergodialogic perspective

José de Souza Muniz Júnior 26 November 2010 (has links)
This paper analyses a set of professional practices I call text intervention (IT) which intend to make a text publishable as a book. I discuss the concrete activity of authors, editors, copyeditors and proofreaders that interfere, sequentially, in the features of a written text before its publishing. The main objective was to understand their everyday work, based on their material and subjective conditions, and the social voices that comment their activity. The theoretical references are organized in three guidelines: communication (particularly Martín-Barberos mediations theory), language (particularly the dialogic approach to discourse) and work (particularly the ergologic approach to activity). From this intersection appears an ergodialogic approach to the value conflicts considering values as prescription tools discursively organized. The first part of the empirical study consisted in the selection of some normative, opinionative and scientific texts about this subject. In the second part I collected testimonies from four people involved in a book IT, in which I adopted semi-structured interviews and simple autoconfrontation. The analysis suggests two main conclusions: (i) the validity of ergodialogic approach for the study of text intervention and media work; (ii) the complex and contradictory nature of publishing practices nowadays.

The evolution of the book: how the simultaneous development of three aspects have modified the history of the book

André Jun Nishizawa 12 November 2014 (has links)
The main objective is to demonstrate how the simultaneous evolution of the technical, morphological and material aspects influenced the book and the appearance of the e-book. The second objective is to show the epistemological changes because of that evolution. The technical aspects relate to techniques involved in the production of both book and ebook. The morphological aspects relate to its form. The material aspects relate to culture, the editorial market and the reading culture. That simultaneity generates a unique change in the history of reading, book and the e-book. Reality presents readers authors that selfpublish, technology companies such as Amazon and Apple that are nearly publishers and books-apps-games. Cognitive ramifications of that evolution appear in the reading of the ebook that is different from the reading of the book.

The Changing Face of Scholarly Communication: University Libraries and Presses Transform the Book

Clement, Richard W., Walters, Cheryl, Spooner, Michael, Wesolek, Andrew 09 1900 (has links)
The rise of electronic publication is irrevocably altering the landscape of scholarly communication. Discussions of electronic modes of publication typically focus on new business models, open access, OAI protocols, and retaining the authority of the peer review process in a world increasingly relying on crowdsourcing. This presentation focuses on a less-discussed but very fundamental aspect of the epub revolution in scholarly communication: the evolution of codex-based monographs, and articles to the next form. We will survey how university libraries and presses are pushing the boundaries of traditional scholarly monographs and articles, giving us a sneak preview, perhaps, of what scholarly communication will look like in the “post book” era.

Business plan – A platform for non-fiction book summaries

Hoehl, Thomas Unknown Date (has links)
The venture addresses the common phenomenon of people having no time or not being able to concentrate to read lengthy business and personal development books. This represents a dilemma for many professionals, students and many other people alike because the demands in the realms of professional and working skills surge continuously, driven by global competition and increasing social and economic dynamics. The company aims to solve this problem through offering highly condensed summaries of business, personal development and eventually spiritual books on an intuitive e-commerce web-platform. The summaries rely heavily on visualization techniques following the venture’s unique and proprietary summarization guidelines. A key feature of the summaries is their quality – think of the level of professional consulting presentations. Summaries are monetized through individual and subscription sales via B2C and B2B channels and mainly marketed to white collar working professionals and students in first and second world economies. The business model is a push model, where content is created to satisfy a presumed demand. A pull model, where users generate content on a provided platform, entails interesting advantages and elements of this idea might be incorporated at a later stage. The financial projections are characterized by two years of negative cash flows, which stem from initial investments in the summary database, building the platform and brand, followed by strong positive inflows as user numbers grow. The projected 5-year NPV in the baseline scenario and a 35,000 USD investment in year 1 is 320,000 USD at a 20% discount rate while the IRR is close to 100%. Key risks pertain to quality of summaries, relationships with key content creators and the challenge to create momentum.

[en] THE DIGITAL CONVERGENCE AND THE FUTURE OF THE BOOK / [pt] CONVERGÊNCIA DIGITAL E O FUTURO DO LIVRO

ELISANGELA APARECIDA ALVES 29 November 2010 (has links)
[en] The convergence between the new technologies and literature inscribes itself in the human knowledge evolution process throughout history. The book is the oldest support for storing, recovering and transmiting knowledge; the traditional edition is based on a chain that joins authors, publishers, deliverers, booksellers, librarians and readers. This almost ancestral bookbinding is coping with a radical change using new means of production and generation of digital content. Its tools generate new forms to create, to spread out and to consume contents, simultaneously and jointly, stimulating a new type of edition, the edition 2.0. A study on the future of the book necessarily points out to a study of virtuality and its implications, in way that the book can be rethink ahead of the transformation process, technological and cultural generated by the phenomena (social nets, blogs, wikis etc) of this convergence. The objective of this research is not to study literature according to media studies, but to appropriate of the terms and concepts that construct this object and to consider an interface analysis between the media, evaluating in measure if of this remediation - as proposed by Marshall McLuhan and made by Friedrich Kittler -, settling a broader landmark to decide the relations between art, aesthetic and technology, aiming to contribute for these issues in this theoretical frame.

The ornamentation in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book with an introductory study of contemporary practice

Viljoen, W.D. (Willem Diederik) 26 April 2010 (has links)
This study sets out to examine the ornamentation in the manu¬script GB-Cfm 32.G.29 (known as the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book) as representative of late sixteenth-century practice. The sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century ornamentation as practised on the Continent is also investigated, in order to elucidate the contemporary English practice, to evaluate it and place it in perspective. This period's concept of ornamentation is an ars diminutionis. The diminution technique (the breaking up of long note values into smaller ones) is expressed as passaggi (figurations) and ornaments, in order to provide a more elegant expression of the basic notes of a composition. Continental treatises describe the individual ornaments and thus provide a terminology with which to describe these ornaments. The ars diminutionis manifests itself in the FVB as written-out figuration, written-out ornaments and ornaments indicated by sign, the latter consisting of the single and double stroke which are peculiar to virginal music. No explanation for the Virginalists' signs exists, nor are contemporary English instruction books concerning themselves with keyboard ornamentation available. A comparison of the ornamentation of the manuscript with the printed edition of the FVB (1979-80), reveals many inaccuracies in the latter. These consist mainly of printer's errors, such as wrong placements and frequency of occurrence, which do not correlate with the original, and stenographic cancellation signs which are wrongly interpreted as ornaments. All of these are corrected in the present study. A collation of other source copies with the same pieces found in the FVB reveals many textual and ornamentation variants between them. Examining the written-out ornaments in the FVB, one finds that they are identical to the ornaments found in Continental sources. These ornaments are primarily employed as decoration of the individual closes in a cadence, where they occur as diminutions of the notes constituting the cadence. Here they are employed functionally, for example, to resolve the note of resolution in a discant close ornamentally, or to embellish the plain notes of a bass close. They are also used as virtuoso decoration as an intrinsic part of the passaggi, being diminutions of successive intervals. The single- and double-stroke ornament signs appear at first glance to be indiscriminately scattered over the music without purpose. Research into their use reveals them to be employed systematically, besides being decorative elements which add brilliance to the music. The frequency with which they coincide with the pulse unit and the rhythmic pulsation created by it, together with the profusion of their occurrence, make these signs a unique phenomenon in late sixteenth-century ornamentation. Their interpretation remains a difficult issue to clarify. The evidence assembled in this study points to a classification of the strokes according to the accenti e trilli principle. The single stroke can then be interpreted as a slide (from a third below the main note), and the double stroke as a tremolo or tremoletto - the most common sixteenth-century ornament. Its mirror-image, the mordent, is occasionally more appropriate in certain contexts, and in cadences the double stroke followed by a two-note suffix most likely signifies a groppo. / Thesis (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Music / unrestricted
