We Don't Need Cinderella: Changing Gender Identities on YouTube Comedy in India

Chaudhury, Sharmista 06 September 2017 (has links)
This paper analyses the emergent voices of young Indians in YouTube comedy sketches. As a format, YouTube comedy sketches have become popular among Indian youth for their ability to critique cultural norms, albeit with a sense of humor. Through a textual analysis of shows produced by YouTube comedy groups, this paper will survey the emergent voices in YouTube comedy and how they challenge mainstream Indian media. Comedy YouTube channels offer a humorous take on issues related to street harassment, marital rape, religion and politics. The content and design of the shows are aimed to dismantle existing portrayals of youth in Indian media and question tradition. The sketches usually show women and men redefining their identities and offering new perspectives on Indian issues by employing satire and parody. This paper therefore investigates how Indians are using humor to create traction for various issues and using YouTube as a platform to criticize gender norms.

A LegitimaÃÃo dos Fatores FilogenÃticos da Feminilidade em Freud: Uma InvestigaÃÃo EpistemolÃgica

Nayanny Sampaio Moreira 19 August 2011 (has links)

Speaking of dread : the law, sensibility and the sublime in eighteenth-century fiction

Chaplin, Susan January 2001 (has links)
This thesis examines the relationship between the discourses of law, aesthetics and sensibility during the eighteenth century and argues in favour of a strong conceptual link between them. This nexus will be shown to be central to an understanding of constructions of femininity in eighteenth-century English fiction and within the wider social and cultural domain. Central to the work theoretically is a theory of the sublime which draws upon Lyotard's 'The Sublime and the Avant-Garde', but which reworks its insights in the light of Luce Irigaray's analysis of the role of the feminine within Western culture. From this will emerge the central theoretical tenet of this work: that within Western culture woman is an object of dread, or a 'sublime object'. From this theoretical perspective, the historical situation of the eighteenth-century woman and her representation in fiction will be considered. It will be argued that a certain form of 'improper' feminine subjectivity developed during this period due in no small measure to the operation of aspects of English law and the discourse of sensibility. The term 'improper' as it is meant to be understood in this work will be rigorously defined in the early chapters and the position of woman as an improper subject, it will be shown, is never far removed from her status as sublime object.

Integrating psychology and spirituality through the feminine principle

Mokwena, Makgathi Louisa Emma 14 October 2015 (has links)
D.Litt. et Phil. (Psychology) / It is with the conclusion of the last century and the advent of this current one, that we see the previously private matters of spirituality brought out into open social life. The world, particularly the Western world, seems to be hungry for spirituality. The causes of this hunger for spirituality are numerous and beyond the scope of this study. Particular mention, however, needs to he made of the role played by the principles of modernism and patriarch in twentieth century western society in precipitating a spiritual deprivation.

Seduction: A Feminist Reading of Berthe Morisot's Paintings

Zdanovec, Aubree, Zdanovec, Aubree January 2016 (has links)
Berthe Morisot was one of the founders of the French Impressionist movement in the nineteenth century. However, she is not researched with the same level of respect as her male Impressionist counterparts. Scholars often rely on her biography to analyze her artwork, compare her to other women artists, or briefly mention her accomplishments in a generalized history of the French Impressionist movement. I analyzed nine of Morisot's paintings and applied feminist theory, including third-wave feminism (post-1960's). My research was angled to approach and understand Morisot's artwork as a contemporary woman would at an exhibition.

It´s natural with women in preschool

Hjort, Felix, Ljungdahl, Marcus January 2016 (has links)

Exploring femininity: a social contructionist approach

Nagar, Bhavna 10 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the lived experiences of women who felt that they had to reject their femininity in favour of masculinity, and who later reclaimed their femininity. The epistemological framework of this study is social constructionism. This study involves in-depth interviews with three women who rejected their femininity and subsequently either reclaimed, or are in the process of reclaiming their femininity. The data was analysed using Hermeneutics. The participants' stories were recounted through the researcher's lens in the form of themes that characterised the rejection and the reclaiming of their femininity. A comparative analysis between the three participants was undertaken. The information gained could assist professionals in understanding the process involved in why some women reject and later reclaim their femininity. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)
