Alone but not lonely : Developing a dish dryer for single households

Huang, Eileen January 2017 (has links)
Sweden has the highest number of single households in the world, yet the majority of household appliances are targeted towards other groups. In a society where single households and compact living are becoming increasingly present, the need for targeted products has become more relevant. The purpose of this project was to design a product which addresses these problems, and eases the everyday life of the intended users. The project was executed using several design methods, such as analytical, observational and practical ones, including interviews with a focus group consisting of 15 people. The use of these design methods identified that the biggest sources of concern amongst the target group were those related to the drying of dishes washed by hand, which led to the development of a dish rack with built in dryers. The design of this product was based on the testing of potential technical solutions and feedback from the focus group, resulting in a kitchen appliance that is uniquely adapted to the needs of single households with limited kitchen space. This design was then presented through sketches, virtual 3D models, and a physical prototype.

Omnicanalidad en los establecimientos de venta de electrodomésticos dirigidos a un público de ingresos medios respecto a la acción de recompra de los consumidores en Lima Metropolitana / Omnichannel in the sale of household appliances aimed at a middle-income public regarding the repurchase action of consumers in Metropolitan Lima

Diaz Yataco, Aarón Manuel 09 July 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this research document is to be able to analyze the differences between single-channel, multi-channel and omni-channel, describe the advantages of omni-channel marketing and, mainly, to test the positive relationship between omni-channel and repurchase actions in household appliances sales establishments in Metropolitan Lima. based on three main variables: touchpoints, customer management and the interconnection of touchpoints. The findings of the work are based on qualitative and quantitative studies carried out based on a systematic review of papers attached to the main academic repositories. Although the hypotheses cannot be accepted, an important trend was found: the buyback intention begins to be positive from the impact of three contact points onwards. This research document also provides recommendations for the management of electrical appliance retail establishments, so that they can apply, to the best of their ability, improvements in their consumer understanding of omnichannel. Finally, this study makes a number of contributions to the omnichannel marketing literature. It establishes the starting point for future research related to this new phenomenon within marketing. / Tesis

Método de detecção automática da quantidade de carga em máquinas de lavar roupas / A method of load estimation in washing machines

Petronilho, Andre 22 April 2013 (has links)
In this dissertation a method for automatic load size detection will be presented, so the water level and the washing cycles can be chosen by a washing machine. The machine where this algorithm was developed is a top load washing machine that uses a brushless permanent magnet motor (BPM motor). The algorithm that is going to be described here uses a neural network to deduce the load size based on information available on this machine such as, motor current, basket speed, power supply voltage and others. These signals are available on most washing machines that uses this kind of motor. The use of an algorithm that detects automatically and precisely the load amount is very important in order to avoid the waste of soap, bleach and softner and, more importantly, water during the wash task. Moreover the use of the neural network will be compared with a linear methods called DOE (design of experiment). Finally, results showing the difference between both methods are presented.

Modeling, Measurement and Mitigation of Power System Harmonics

Nassif, Alexandre 11 1900 (has links)
Power system harmonics and interharmonics are power quality concerns that have received a great deal of attention in recent years. These phenomena can have several adverse effects on power system operation. The main harmonic and interharmonic sources are devices based on power electronics. An emerging class of harmonic sources is comprised of power electronic-based home appliances. These appliances are dispersed throughout the low-voltage distribution system, and their collective impact can result in unacceptable levels of voltage distortion. The characterization of home appliances based on their harmonic currents is an important step toward understanding the impact of these devices. This thesis presents an evaluation of the relative severity of the harmonic currents from these devices, and the impact of the disparity of the harmonic current phase angles. Typically, the voltage supplied to each harmonic source is already distorted. This distortion causes a change of the harmonic current magnitudes (traditionally referred to as the attenuation effect). Common harmonic analysis methods cannot take this variation into account because they use a typical harmonic current source model specified by a supply voltage having little or no distortion. This thesis characterizes the harmonic attenuation effect of power electronic-based appliances. One of the findings is that harmonic amplification, rather than attenuation, can occur under credible voltage conditions. This finding had not been made previously. In order to include the harmonic attenuation/amplification in appliance modeling, a measurement-based harmonic modeling technique is proposed. One of the most economic and effective ways to mitigate harmonics in power systems is through the use of harmonic shunt passive filters. These filters can be of many topologies. Selecting these topologies is a task that, today, depends on the experience and judgment of the filter designer. An investigation is carried out on the common filter topologies, and the most cost-effective topologies for mitigating harmonics are identified. As many of the larger harmonic loads also generate interharmonics, interharmonics have become prevalent in today’s medium-voltage distribution system. Mitigation cannot be carried out until the interharmonic-source location is known. A method for interharmonic source determination is proposed and then verified through simulation and field measurement studies.

Integrated high-resolution modelling of domestic electricity demand and low voltage electricity distribution networks

Richardson, Ian January 2011 (has links)
Assessing the impact of domestic low-carbon technologies on the electricity distribution network requires a detailed insight into the operation of networks and the power demands of consumers. When used on a wide-scale, low-carbon technologies, including domestic scale micro-generation, heat pumps, electric vehicles and flexible demand, will change the nature of domestic electricity use. In providing a basis for the quantification of the impact upon distribution networks, this thesis details the construction and use of a high-resolution integrated model that simulates both existing domestic electricity use and low voltage distribution networks. Electricity demand is modelled at the level of individual household appliances and is based upon surveyed occupant time-use data. This approach results in a simulation that exhibits realistic time-variant demand characteristics, in both individual dwellings, as well as, groups of dwellings together. Validation is performed against real domestic electricity use data, measured for this purpose, from dwellings in Loughborough in the East Midlands, UK. The low voltage distribution network is modelled using real network data, and the output of its simulation is validated against measured network voltages and power demands. The integrated model provides a highly detailed insight into the operation of networks at a one-minute resolution. This integrated model is the main output of this research, alongside published articles and a freely downloadable software implementation of the demand model.
