This thesis intends to observe the relationship between the processes of internal communication and the self-legitimacy of the organization. Knowing the conception and the relevance of communication, its general and specific terms, and the actual meaning of the channels that give dynamism this are among topics covered in this text. The research is based on the Paradigm of Complexity, which points to the motion and systemic interrelation visions of the communication phenomena. The theoretical review articulates concepts related to "organizational communication", "internal communication", "organizational culture", "interaction and language", among others. An analysis of situation observed from the internal communication at the Fundação de Apoio ao Hospital Universitário, da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora – also involved qualitative research and conducting a focal group with supervisors and employees whom work at the headquarters organization’s and at two other health units managed in the region. Testimonials from participants indicate two axes of research: the primordial, that internal communication takes, in general, as an instrumental character/operational, that is, capable of transmitting information – although there is the knowledge that communication assumes the dialogue; and that through formal and informal channels, developing interpersonal relations as a priority. In the final considerations, it is observed, among other points, that internal communication is a management tool that legitimizes the organization to the organization itself, since its actions are designed as in an integrated manner.

Sjukvårdens kommunikativa kulturkrock : En kvantitativ studie om uppfattad organisationskultur inom slutenvården i Värmlands läns landsting / The healthcares cultural clash of communication : A quantitative survey on perceived organizational culture within Värmlands Council

Winter, Niclas, Klasson, Ida January 2018 (has links)
Organizational culture is somewhat hard to define and a complex matter that nevertheless has an important role. The current healthcare is challenged by a tug of war between different cultures for its hierarchical structure, which today needs an external and economic turn of mind and still work for a worthy meeting with the patient. Simultaneously it exists a stressful situation for the health professionals in terms of staff shortage while the management has a constraint from politicians and tight budgets. The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate whether the perception of an organizational culture within Värmlands Council may differ depending on individual’s hierarchical positions. The purpose also includes identifying and analysing the communicative factors that contribute to the different perceptions. The main question of the study is “To what extent does an employee’s hierarchical position affect the perception of an organizational culture?” followed by “What is the relationship between the internal communication and the current perceptions?” The analytical framework of the study is based on previous research and within the industry well-established theories, including the Competing Values Framework, which the study uses to define the different cultures within the organization through its dimensions and clusters. To answer the study’s questions a survey has been applied that was sent to the whole population, which however, received a lack of response rate. The results indicate that a distinct hierarchical culture is perceived within the organization, alongside desires to direct it towards a more family-oriented culture while maintaining the hierarchical structures. The managers considered their leadership to be characterized by helpfulness and encouragement for participation, however it was not perceived in such way by anyone else within the organization. This is most likely due to the one-way communication that goes through a hierarchical communication model within the organization.

A qualitative study on internal symmetrical communication and its contribution to employee engagement

Karlsson, Christian, Partanen, Johan January 2017 (has links)
Background: Employee commitment is worryingly low, both nationally and internationally which is a costly problem for organizations as this may contribute to lower productivity, reduced customer satisfaction and reduced employee loyalty. An important tool that organizations can use to strengthen the employees' commitment is to create a well-functioning internal communication. This communication has from an organizational perspective been given a more prominent role since internal information between management and employees must be adjusted on the basis of employees' needs so as to provide the best conditions for achieving organizational success and contribute to a higher commitment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to obtain a better understanding of how organizations symmetrical internal communication affects employee engagement, seen from an employee's perspective. Method: The study's purpose was to get a better understanding of the chosen problem area which resulted that a qualitative research approach was used. To investigate the corporate commitment of the employee’s nine semi-structured interviews was conducted. This method was used to capture the informants' subjective experiences of commitment linked to symmetrical internal communication. The nine informants were selected from one organization, where the selection was made strategically random. The organization was chosen as it actively worked with symmetric internal communications and employees’ commitment. Results/Conclusion: This study has come to the conclusion that it is the combination of symmetrical communication and asymmetric communication that creates the most favorable conditions for well-functioning internal communication. The combination of internal communication channels facilitates the employees' work situation and contributes to increased engagement.
