HSU, Hui-chen 05 September 2011 (has links)
This study was to explore the effects of the social skill training programs integrating with picture books for the 2nd grade students¡¦ social skills of immediate and sustainable impact. Specific recommendations for the findings were provided for future research and implementation of social skills training. The study used the nonequivalent quasi-experimental designs and took two different classes of 2nd grade in a medium-sized elementary school in Pingtung County. There were 25 subjects in experimental group, and 26 subjects in control group; theformer were practiced for eight weeks with eight units of social skill training programs integrating with picture books and the latter were practiced with general a general integrated curriculum. Using the scale of Children Social Skills to collect data during the pretest, posttest and follow-up posttest, and then, all data were dealt with by the analysis of one-way ANCOVA. Furthermore, the qualitative data of Session Feedback Form, worksheet, teachers¡¦ observation were also anlayzed. The study found social skill training programs integrating with picture books has both immediate and incessant guidance effect on promoting experimental group children¡¦ whole social skills, and subscales of cooperative, positive assertive as well as negative assertive skills. While, promoting the subscales of empathy and self-control skills only found immediate guidance effect with no incessant guidance effect. The qualitative anlaysis found the experimental group has positive attitude on social skill training programs integrating with picture books.

Social Capital and Relational Coordination in Outpatient Clinics

Lee, Charlotte 31 August 2012 (has links)
Coordination is a vital component in health care provision and teamwork. The need for better coordination is particularly prominent in outpatient setting where patients assume the primary responsibility to follow-up on their own health care, especially when treatment is complex and lengthy in duration. Relational coordination represents a type of informal coordination process reinforced by communication and supportive relationships. This concept has been associated with enhanced interprofessional team performance, including patient care outcomes. This study aimed to examine the theoretical underpinnings of relational coordination in the outpatient setting using social capital theory. It was hypothesized that social capital, resources embedded within network of relationships, would predict relational coordination. Additionally, social capital was hypothesized to be predicted by team tenure; and relational coordination was hypothesized to be predicted by formal coordination mechanisms. A non-experimental, cross-sectional survey design was used to examine the relationship between social capital and relational coordination. Participants (N=342) were physicians and nurses recruited from outpatient clinics in two University affiliated hospitals. Study surveys were sent to 501 nurses and 187 physicians with follow-up reminders sent at three, five and seven weeks after the initial distribution of surveys. The overall response rate was 49.71%. Study variables were measured using previously validated instruments with acceptable levels of reliability and validity. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used for hypothesis testing. Final analysis revealed good fit of data to the hypothesized model (Chi-square=383.38, df=177, p<0.001; CFI=0.966; RMSEA=0.060; SRMR=0.0316). SEM revealed that social capital predicted both factors of relational coordination [communication (β=0.70, p<0.001); supportive relationship (β=0.81, p<0.001)], and team tenure predicted social capital (β=0.13, p<0.05). In addition, the association between team tenure and relational coordination (β=0.09, p<0.05) was found to be partially mediated by social capital. Findings of this study suggested that characteristics within relational ties are predictive of informal coordination. Administrators may facilitate teamwork through team building initiatives that foster these relational qualities, such as trust and shared language. Future research can further investigate the association between social capital and relational coordination in other health care settings, as well, in larger teams involving health care professionals in addition to physicians and nurses.

Segredos da alma: a d?diva da assist?ncia de Enfermagem / Secrets of the soul: the gift on the nursing care

Almeida, Sheyla Gomes Pereira de 26 September 2006 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-17T14:46:59Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 SheylaGPA.pdf: 885724 bytes, checksum: 01c83bfc1c890d43cec54fa13d4ceb1e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-09-26 / The present study is an analysis of interpersonal relationships between the nursing staff and the patients under their care. Its objectives are to analyze ties/links that may possibly exist in such relationships and to describe, based on the experience of the patients, how they are received by the nursing staff, and what is the extent of their reliability on the nursing staff within the hospital. This investigation is analytical in nature and qualitative in approach, having as its leading thought Marcel Mauss s gift-exchange theory. The study involved eighteen in-patients, eight of them from government institutions, at a large hospital school and ten others from a private specialty hospital; both in the city of Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Data were collected between January and March 2006. Results point to ties being created between the nursing staff and patients irrespective of their social status, involving especially the development of friendship and reliability. We have noticed that in both services the interpersonal relationship is associated with the circulation of the symbolic goods mentioned in the patients discourse, such as attention, loving care and concern, among others, marking the formation of ties during hospital stay. Likewise, reliability is also present in close relationship with the technical competence of the professional. Patient hospitality is associated with the manner in which the patients were treated on being admitted to the hospital, although they also refer to hospitality at later moments, during the course of their treatment. Finally, we are in a position to say that there are ties/links between in-patients and nursing staff, irrespective of the patient s social status and class divide. It is thus evident that the antiutilitarian symbolism of gift to give, receive, give back -, which shapes the setting of social ties also takes place in today s utilitarian, individualistic and competitive societies. Thus, human beings whose existence is dependent on mutual relationships try to save their humanity, especially those who are fragile and dependent as is the case of the hospital in-patient / O presente estudo analisa o relacionamento interpessoal estabelecido entre a equipe de enfermagem e os pacientes, por ela assistidos.

Salvador

Comparing interventions and beliefs about autism and links to interpersonal relatedness in two cities, in Turkey and England

Yazici, Mahmut Serkan January 2018 (has links)
This thesis explores similarities and differences between interventions and beliefs about autism in Turkey and England. It is known that Turkish culture is interdependent and English culture is independent. It is also known that differences in interpersonal relatedness affect views about social behaviour, life goals and social priorities. This thesis, therefore, also explores whether interpersonal relatedness influences interventions and belief about autism in both countries. This research is based on case studies of special and mainstream schools in two cities, one in Turkey and one in England. The study used mixed research methods including questionnaires, interviews and observations. Participants included teachers, parents, children and clinicians. The quantitative data from questionnaires showed similarities between parents in both contexts regarding beliefs and priorities, but also important differences in interpersonal relatedness, sense of support and goals for their children. There were also differences within the two countries in the degree to which parents had an interdependent or independent orientation. Interdependent orientation across both contexts was associated with lower self-esteem, higher sense of helplessness and beliefs about the need for socio-communicative interventions. The qualitative data from interviews and observations showed similarities in the desire to improve outcomes for children with autism with many similarly held priorities and commitment to a range of interventions and approaches. Nevertheless there were substantial differences in resources and approach to teaching and involvement of family and community in the education of the children. Both the qualitative and quantitative data indicated that cultural orientations linked to interpersonal relatedness, societal priorities and resources influenced the care and education that children received and the relationships between families, schools and other professionals.

Developing social interactions through outdoor education in multicultural preschool settings : Teachers’ perspectives

Csányi, Sarolta January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study was to identify and investigate preschool teachers’ experiences and views on the role of outdoor education on social interactions. The research questions were: How do the teachers conceptualize outdoor activities’ role on social interactions in multicultural preschool settings? How do the teachers foster social interactions through outdoor education? What kind of challenges have the teachers faced regarding outdoor education in multicultural preschool groups? Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five preschool teachers from three different preschools in a multicultural suburb in southern Sweden. The results showed that – despite children’s possible aversions to engaging in activities in the outdoors - outdoor activities are supportive of the development of closer bonds within the group. According to the teachers interviewed, the natural settings bring calmness and openness, therefore this environment facilitates social interactions among children. The lack of strictly preplanned activities offer children opportunities to follow their interests and to have shared experiences through the discovery of nature. Their willingness for collaborative explorations is a basis for joint play, discussion and group work.
