MERCOSUR SOM ETT NYTT REGIONALT BLOCK : Ett steg närmare en Sydamerikansk Union?

Acosta Negrin, Lucia January 2007 (has links)

Transporting Atlanta: The Mode of Mobility under Construction

Konrad, Miriam Fiedler 26 May 2006 (has links)
The transportation crisis in Atlanta has attained epic proportions. Inconveniences and hardships created by too many automobiles and not enough alternatives for movement, have reached untenable levels. Getting at what lies beneath the asphalt, interrogating what drives the paving of America, along with the seemingly unstoppable space, energy, and money consumption that the current mode of mobility entails will perhaps allow for future decision-making that includes a more nuanced reading of the landscape. In an effort to understand these forces, I interrogate the creation, trajectories, and current positioning of three major Atlanta transportation projects: the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the bus and rail system that has been the backbone of metropolitan Atlanta’s public transportation system for the past 30 years; the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), which is the super-agency created in 1999 in an effort to address the air quality issues in the region; and the Beltline, an enormously popular current proposal to build a 22-mile loop of greenspace, transit, and other amenities around an inner loop of the city built on existing rail beds. This investigation engages a wide literature on race, space, and place; attendance at various meetings and relevant symposia; archival data; and in-depth interviews with 20 area transportation experts and interested parties. As race and regionalism are so central to understanding power and procedure in metro Atlanta, particular attention is given to racial and spatial practices. This research reveals the contest over issue framing between car-centered growth promoters, environmental (or green) actors, and social justice, or equity proponents and how the outcomes of this triumvirate’s competition results in regional transportation policies and procedures. The examination of the three instances; MARTA, GRTA, and the Beltline, give us an excellent window into the making of mobility in the region. INDEX WORDS: Transportation, Atlanta, Race and Regionalism, Mobility, GRTA, Beltline, MARTA.

Die ,globale Provinz' ? Der Globalisierungsdiskurs am Beispiel von Arnold Stadlers Roman Ein hinreissender Schrotthändler (1999) und Andreas Maiers Roman Klausen (2002)

Stengel, Julia January 2006 (has links)
This thesis demonstrates how two literary works ? Arnold Stadler's Ein hinreissender Schrotthändler (1999) and Andreas Maier's Klausen (2002) ? can be read as part of the globalization discourse. As a theoretical basis for the textual analysis the thesis first develops an understanding of the concept of globalization which forms a background against which the two literary works can be read. By embedding literature into the sociological theories of globalization it is possible to examine to what extent the two novels reflect and/or generate particular aspects of globalization.

Both texts are set largely in provincial towns, and the regions themselves play commanding roles in the stories being told. This focus on the provincial takes on an ironic appearance in the era of globalization where one would assume that localities have lost meaning. It is therefore useful to look at theories that broach the issue of the tense relation between globality and locality. Since no universally accepted definition of globalization exists, it is necessary to establish the crucial aspects of the phenomenon to be applied in the analysis of the novels by examining the work of various theorists on the topic.

The prominent model of 'glocalization,' originated by the sociologist Roland Robertson to refer to 'global localization,' offers useful categories for the analysis of the provincial in the era of globalization. In this model the simultaneity of global and local processes is assumed and with it the alleged antagonism of the 'global' and the 'local' is overcome. Claiming those dynamics Robertson's model can serve as a confirmation of the arguments put forward in this thesis which looks at literature about the 'local' through the prism of globalization. Other theories relating to explicit local dynamics are presented to round out the model of 'glocalization. ' In addition, the thesis takes into account normative ideas regarding the province in the global era.

The textual analysis that follows the delineation of the model of 'glocalization' demonstrates how the novels illustrate the global and local processes postulated by the model. The investigation also explains how the literary texts themselves evaluate the provinces portrayed. The results of the examination show that selected aspects of the globalization discourse have found their way into two contemporary German-language novels and therefore into German literary discourse. Even though the two novels deal with different ideas from the discourse, and even reject to a certain extent some of these concepts, they each reveal a particular literary manner of echoing the processes of globalization. Finally, the thesis demonstrates that the globalization discourse is of use for the interpretation of literary texts.

Territoriella identiteter och fusioner : Regional identitet vid interregionala fusioner

Krajisnik, Mladen January 2009 (has links)
Title: Territorial identities and fusions - regional identity by interregional fusions Level: Final assignment for Bachelors Degree in Social Science with specialization in Urban and Regional Planning. Major subject: Geography. Author: Mladen Krajisnik Supervisor: Carl-Johan Nordblom Date: 2009 May Intention: The main focus of this study is to verify the existence, or nonexistence, of local and regional identities. Considering the result regarding regional identities, this thesis will continue on to clarify if these identities are to be seemed as a threat or resource during fusions, and if so, how can one best manage these different identities. Method: Only secondary data has been used in this study. I've botanized amongst the literature that processes fusions, impact of culture, identities, regions, territory. Continuing on, the collected empirical resources have been compared to my theory, from which an analysis was able to be spawned and conclusions were drawn. Result & Conclusions: The thesis confirms different regional identities, although it does not treat the subject regarding the inner strength of regions comparing to one another. Furthermore, when fusions are initiated it is strongly vital that the different regional identities are supported, promoted and encouraged. A fusion consisting of many different identities is to be preferred ahead a homogenous one. Media has an vital part in structuring regional identities by the instruments of radio, newspapers and TV. Suggestions for future research: Which effects may the fusion between Växjö University and Högskolan i Kalmar have, when merging into the Linné University? Are there any other similar examples one can study? Which factors should one consider regarding fusions of Universities? Contribution of the thesis: This study clarifies and explains regional identities, the impact of culture, fusions, territory and why and how one should promote heterogeneous fusions. Key words: Mergers/fusions, regions, identity, culture, territory, integration process.

The Chinese Maritime Literatures in the Song and Yuan Dynasties

Chen, Ching-mau 16 June 2010 (has links)
The two sides of Taiwan Strait possess endless coastline and abundant marine resources. However, the governments of all the past dynasties lacked marine awareness, and their policies failed to straddle the coastline which influenced the opportunities for the development of marine activities. The developments of marine policies of all the past dynasties could be divided into four stages: the birth of marine concepts (during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period), the development of marine activities (during the Qin and Han dynasties, the Three Kingdoms Period, and the Six Dynasties Period), the peak of marine activities (during the Sui, Tang, Song, and Yuan Dynasties), and the decline of Marine activities (during the Ming and Qing Dynasties). The activities in each stage had influenced the trends of the marine cultures and the marine literatures. In the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the public and private sectors relied on the thriving marine awareness to develop marine technologies, to exploit the marine resources. It helped the marine activities at this stage prosperous, and developed abundant marine cultures and literatures. Most of the writers at this stage stayed in the coastal regions. They possessed abundant marine experiences, and their diversified literary styles and descriptions on ocean were applied in describing the atmosphere of a sea country, recording sea livelihood, praising marine traditions, and forming strong ocean images. The marine literatures at this stage were characterized by its considerable works in terms of quantity and quality. This paper follows the framework below to discuss the marine literatures in the Song and Yuan Dynasties: marine cultures in China ¡÷ marine literatures ¡÷ marine literatures in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. First, it analyzes the insights and developmental conditions of marine cultures, and discusses the developmental courses of marine activities of all the past dynasties so as to lay the foundation of the chapters on marine literatures. Then, it shifts the focus from marine cultures to marine literatures and investigates the definition and standard for comparing literary works, locating artistic characteristics, and sorting out divisions of development stages. After constructing the overall concepts of marine cultures and marine literatures, it further analyzes the marine literatures in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. It also examines the basic information of marine literatures in these dynasties, and connects it with the analysis on the contents of literary works of various writers. In the main body of the study, the works of important writers in these dynasties are discussed respective, and the emphasis is to present the characteristics of various writers. Then, it reviews the literary works of these two dynasties as a whole to analyze the natural ocean and overall atmosphere of cultural ocean presented by the marine literatures at this stage from a broad viewpoint. Lastly, it analyzes the overall artistic characteristic and the limitations in the form and contents of this work. This paper concludes its finding as followed: the comprehensive knowledge of the marine cultures can supplement the developmental insights of ancient maritime technology, construct the developments of classical marine literatures, propose the standard for identifying marine literatures, demonstrate the meanings of important works of marine literatures in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and reveal the insights of natural ocean and cultural ocean.

Var går gränsen? : En argumentationsanalys om den regionala identitetens betydelse i den nya regionindelningen

Nilsson, Annika January 2008 (has links)

The aim of the study is to examine different statements for and against regional identity in the research of the new organisation of the Swedish society. The aim is also to observe in what extend the Swedish committee of responsibility has had an awareness of the identity politics in its effort to improve the presumptions for the new, successful regional division.

The questions are:

1. In which ways do the opinions of the participant of the work of the committee of responsibility, coincide and differ when it comes to the importance of the regional identity in the case of a new regional division?

2. How has the committee of responsibility worked on development of consciousness and mobilisation for the creation of the regional identity in its final report?

A method called the argumentation analysis was used in this study. The documents that were analysed were all linked to the research of a new Swedish organisation. The conclusion of the study is that even though the committee’s reasoning concords in many ways with the theory, it would be fallacious to say that the committee has been working on development of consciousness and mobilisation for the creation of the regional identity.
