Poetika filmové tvorby Artavazda Pelešjana / Poetics of cinematic work of Artavazd Peleshyan

Stetsenko, Ksenia January 2016 (has links)
The Poetics of Artavazd Peleshyan's Cinema Abstract This thesis presents an analysis of the poetics of Artavazd Peleshyan's cinema based on the theory of poetics of cinema developed by David Bordwell. The first part introduces the reader to the director's work, includes a literature overview and outlines the methodological approach. The main theoretical frame of reference was provided by David Bordwell's concept of the poetics of cinema, which he developed in several publications. The second part of the thesis focuses on the analysis itself, and consists of three chapters that present the main components of a film work: thematics, stylistics and large-scale form. The first of these chapters focuses on basic thematic elements in individual Peleshyan's films and summarizes key themes represented throughout his work. The second chapter presents an analysis of the stylistic component of his work, consisting primarily of combining images and sounds expressed through the montage. This part also deals with Peleshyan's theory of distance montage and illustrates its mechanisms of distance connections using specific examples. The third and final chapter focuses on the formal aspects of Peleshyan's work and discusses its large-scale from the perspective of the essay film. This thesis presents the basic characteristics...

Sterben und Tod in Kurzfilmen für Kinder

Quietzsch, Uta 03 February 2016 (has links) (PDF)
The experience with film seminars for students has shown that these mostly do not dispose of enough foreknowledge for film analyses and they also lack the technical terms of the cinematic means. Since the length of films blows up each university time slot pattern, and therefore the seminars are conducted as block events, the students get an introduction from scratch in an orientation session as basic knowledge and tools for their own film analysis. This basic knowledge of \"film language and film analysis in the media education\" has been optimized again and again in the last twenty years and is used in the present version at the TU Dresden and the University of Duisburg/Essen.

Easy Prey

Norris, Annika L 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Easy Prey is a three-dimensional (3D) animated action comedy short film about stereotypes, expectations, and portrayals of strength that follows a ballerina as she is cornered in an alley. The fight that ensues expresses women's empowerment, physically and emotionally, by challenging preconceptions of ballerinas and the performance of femininity. This expression is founded on the intentional inclusion and exclusion of common cinematic tropes to efficiently convey key information while undermining common stereotypes. The action and atmosphere utilize classic film techniques to heighten and release tension. Easy Prey is inspired by my personal journey in healing my relationship with femininity and its societal performance, finding value and strength where I once felt shame and inferiority. In confronting preconceptions in this film, the viewer is encouraged to reflect upon their own biases and views on strength while being entertained.

Echo

Beltran, Ana 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Echo is a 3D animated short film rendered within Unreal Engine from Epic Games. The story is centered around a small child named Echo who has moved to Earth with her mom. The story follows her adventures through her first days at school and what can happen when a parent suddenly disappears from a child's life against their will. Many of the story beats take direct inspiration from personal experiences of either myself, my family members, or stories of immigrant children who come to the United States (US) with their parents in search of a better future. There has been a lot of discussion about the immigration system in the United States in recent years, but not enough discussion on the experiences immigrant children have when going through the system and its issues, therefore this film aims to help shed a light on how just a small act of kindness can help build a new world for those that find themselves lost. The main character and the film are titled Echo because it is an "echo" of the past. Be it past experiences, stories, or events.

Spaced Out: Exploring Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Through Animation

Klapka, Alyssa R 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Spaced Out is about a 16-year-old high school student named Penny, who arrives home from school after a long day. She has astronomy homework that is due, and she is determined to sit down and get it done as fast as possible so that she can have some evening time to herself. This all goes awry when Opal, a dragon who is a manifestation of her ADHD, shows up to distract her. Penny must find a way to finish her assignment, not by ignoring Opal and pretending she isn't there, but by embracing the fact that she is a part of her and using it to her advantage. This short film is an educational fantasy based on my own experiences living with ADHD, and with it I hope to offer others a glimpse into my daily struggles. Many people still believe in harmful stereotypes about ADHD and assume it can manifest in only one way. Spaced Out is my attempt to bring further understanding to this complex mental health challenge.

Escape Velocity: A Narrative Short

Trotter, Joshua 21 May 2004 (has links)
This thesis book describes the development and production of Escape Velocity, a short narrative film. The writing, pre-production, shooting, and editing of the film are reviewed. Script drafts and a final budget are included in the appendices. The film concerns Larry Pipe and Percy Knuckle, best friends who dream of moving to Barbados. They hope to open a beachside bar and spend the rest of their days relaxing and watching girls. When Percy starts dating Melinda Bundt, however, Larry's jealousy threatens to destroy the men's friendship. When Percy needs money to follow Melinda to Atlanta, Larry must choose between supporting his best friend or pursuing their dream of Barbados alone. Escape Velocity examines the ways we hold ourselves back from pursuing our dreams, the reasons we justify doing so, and the changes in our life that finally inspire us to move toward our goals.

This research was carried out during Professional Master's Program in Language Teaching, aiming at the elaboration of a pedagogical product which is going to be available to educational professionals in order to contribute to teaching end learning process. This paper descants about short stories writing of Elementary students through an animated short film retextualization practice, according to the significance of a pedagogical investment in activities that concerns the writing learning in Portuguese Language classes. Therefore, this paper specific pedagogical objectives are producing writings that are adequate to the studied genre; enlarge the linguistic resources use in students writings and socialize the short stories produced. For the pedagogical product elaboration, its enforcement aimed at evaluating students engagement towards the animated short films proposal; see the students writing progress along the proposal accomplishment and redesign the applied didactic proposal in order to share it in a pedagogical website with this intent. This proposal is an authorial teaching material and it was applied with elementary seventh grade students, in a municipal web school in Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul that showed low productivity at writing. After the enforcement, some enhancements were made in the teaching material, because it is an action research, according to Tripp's Concept (2005), in which, besides the pedagogical instrument, teacher-as-researcher's practice is also revised. Marcuschi's concept (2010) was used to discuss retextualization. Concerning the results, it is possible to say that during the observation of students writing development it was noticed a satisfactory progress regarding the adequacy to the studied genre, the enlargement of the use of linguistic resources in these students' writing and the finding of socialization of the produced short stories, beyond the planned socialization method. In addition to this, there was student engagement towards the proposal and, base on its application, it was possible to redesign the teaching material developed to be shared in a virtual media. / This research was carried out during Professional Master's Program in Language Teaching, aiming at the elaboration of a pedagogical product which is going to be available to educational professionals in order to contribute to teaching end learning process. The Art of the Silent Story

Walker, Caitlin J 01 May 2016 (has links)
I created a one minute 2D, hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation with an original music score utilizing Toon Boom to demonstrate my ability to convey an interesting story without the use of any dialogue.I relied instead on pantomime, expressions, and context clues to communicate the story to the viewer.
