proximidades. / Nephila clavipes (Linnaeus, 1767) is a species of orb-web spider found throughout Brazil. The aim of this work was to evaluate aspects of the populational ecology of the species, along with growth, development, and phenology of individuals located in the campus of the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), in the municipality of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. Approximately 100 webs (solitary and aggregate) were observed during the years 2008 and 2009. Both males and females were stained on the dorsal region of the opisthosoma with several colors of enamel paint. The rainy season comprised the largest number of individuals in the population, both for females and for males. The curve of the number of female variation was proportional to the semelparous species curve. In the second year of
sampling, the population was basically composed of immigrants, since the original female population dispersed from the sample area in the first weeks of observation. In order to analyze the behavioral aspects of the species, it was evaluated the ability of females in occupying webs of conspecifics, and described the behaviors performed during the territorial disputes. Three field manipulation experiments were carried out; two experiments in previously vacant webs: one of them, with the reintroduction of a spider in their own web (n=30); the other, with the introduction of a spider in a vacant web (n=30). The third experiment, was performed with the introduction of a spider in a previously occupied web (n=55). The experiments showed that both resident spiders and introduced spiders remained in the webs in which they were placed. Resident females demonstrated that, when they were bigger, they showed an advantage in the dispute against the invasive species, though it was not noticed any significant advantage when the invasive individuals had the same size or were bigger. The resident invested more in the maintenance of the web than the invasive, performing more agonistic behaviors and returning more times to the web after combats. It did not occur intolerance among individuals on the support wires, thus indicating that the formation of aggregations might be related to the tolerance of individuals to accept the presence of conspecifics from nearby areas.

As narrativas apontam para a necessidade de se repensar o funcionamento do programa PEC-G em sua complexa conexão com as embaixadas do Brasil no exterior e com as universidades brasileiras anfitriãs / Abstract: Regarding university sphere, there are a great number of mobility exchange programs due to the increasing demand for the internationalization of institutions imposed by a new global scenario. The Student Program-Undergraduate Agreement known as PEC-G, which is supported by Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is aimed at serving developing countries, and it's been the one that increases the most among other exchange programs. Besides, African countries are known to be the most beneficiaries of PEC-G. The Program offers, under specific protocol, vacancies free of charge for Undergraduate Courses that can be taken at either public or private Brazilian universities. That protocol establishes, for instance, that students who apply for the program are expected to both afford their studies in the country and get their Celpe-Bras Certificate. This research study is affiliated with Interdisciplinary Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006) in dialogue with some epistemological positions from Postcolonial Studies (BHABHA, 2007/1998; SPIVAK, 2010). The aim of this study was to investigate, during the development of PEC-G along two terms (first, the period of preparation for taking Celpe-Bras Exam, and then four years of undergraduate studies), how four Congolese students narrated both Celpe-Bras and PECG experiences, positioning themselves and being positioned regarding both processes, and also how these four students performed their de(re)territorialization processes within the narratives created by themselves. Therefore, it was analyzed a corpus composed of (i) interactions occurred during given classes which were audio-recorded in 2008, while students were preparing themselves for Celpe-Bras; (ii) informal conversations with the four students which happened right after the exam, in 2008, and between 2010 and 2012, while they were taking second, third and fourth years at college as undergraduate students; (iii) informal conversations with those who were responsible for PEC-G Agreement both within the University and within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; (iv) researcher's retrospective diary; (v) texts produced by the four students; (vi) e-mails exchanged with them between 2009 and 2013. In order to perform analysis, a few theoretical concepts were taken into consideration, such as positioning (LANGENHOVE & HARRÉ, 1999), performativity (BUTLER, 2010/1990), de(re)territorialization (DELEUZE & GUATTARI, 2007/1980a, 2007/1980b, 2007/1980c; HAESBAERT, 2004), and the indexical cues chart proposed by Wortham (2001), which was expanded with other categories that came about supported by data analysis. The results of the analysis pointed out that the four students understand Celpe-Bras Exam as an important instrument that can help student inclusion into social and academic relations, and that it can significantly lead to appropriation of space (LEFEBVRE, 1986/1974) and to the construction of multiterritorialization. Concerning PEC-G, it is narrated as an instrument that mainly controls and inhibits appropriation of space, producing very often either the perception of precarious territorialization (HAESBAERT, 2004) or the experience of situations measured by prejudice, not belongingness and exclusion. The analysis of students' narratives also pointed out that it seems necessary to reconsider how PEC-G Program is run, how it works regarding its complex connection with both Brazilian embassies abroad and Brazilian host universities / Doutorado / Multiculturalismo, Plurilinguismo e Educação Bilingue / Doutora em Lingüística Aplicada

The sociospatial caiçaras's groups organization north coast of state of Sao Paulo (Brazil) tell us, mostly how it was produced considering the economical and commercial cycles that allowed the region to have different phases, some of inclusion and others isolation depending on the world economical politics interests. Fact that has been observed till the final XIX century with the Coffee's economic decline. From the beginning of XX century to the middle of 1950's decade, the configuration of this territory was impregnated with caiçaras's way of life, which found in the next decades others factors that changed its original social structure like: the urbanization process and industrial expansion, the Rio - Santos road construction, the creation of State Park of Serra do Mar (PESM-SP) including Picinguaba in 1979. So, this work intended to develop a comprehension about the territoriality of caiçara's groups in the north coast of state of Sao Paulo - focusing Picinguaba's Village - inside of Historical, Cultural and Anthropological Zone which was determined by the Management Plan of Coast 's state Park (2005 -2006) and which more recently had the purpose of doing the so called re- categorization of the village (understanding that this part of population is more and more related to the urban context ) constructing a new territoriality. This is produced through the use of territory by different social relations. In the case of Picinguaba's Village was found that the new territoriality has been created by new relations such as accelerated urbanization, build's speculation and the village's insertion into the area of conservation and integral protection. All that have been changes the sights and the lives, mostly of caiçaras's groups. The most important results from this research came from an analyses that tried to cross dates collected from official documents with the ones collected with empirical research. That confrontation made possible to point out some ideas of alternatives actions to improve urban public policies related to Picinguaba's Village / Mestrado / Análise Ambiental e Dinâmica Territorial / Mestre em Geografia

Contested Natures, Insecurities and Territorialities: The Aerial Eradication of Coca in ColombiaHuezo, Alexander 22 June 2017 (has links)
Until very recently, Colombia was the only country in the world that still permitted the eradication of illicit crops –primarily coca and to a lesser extent, opium poppies— through aerial fumigation. It was a controversial practice for a number of reasons, chiefly the damage caused to plants, animals, and people living in or near fumigated areas. A favored tactic in the U.S.-supported War on Drugs, aerial eradication actually contributed to the spread of illicit crops to increasingly remote areas of Colombia, such as the collectively titled lands of both indigenous and black communities. Concerns about the practice of aerial eradication, however, appeared completely disconnected from the positive framing of the policy and guidelines governing its implementation.
Employing mixed methods, both ethnographic and cartographic, this dissertation examines how these contradictory discourses —aerial eradication explained by officials involved in its operation versus described locally by people living in or near fumigated areas— materialized in 2015, the last year the aerial eradication program was in operation. This study engages critical social science theory to deconstruct dominant conceptualizations of territoriality, geopolitics and environmental conservation, while at the same time proposing alternative understandings of those concepts grounded in local experiences.
This research finds that aerial eradication authorities overstated the accuracy of aerial eradication operations by: 1) downplaying the incidence of pilots spraying legal crops, 2) invalidating local reports on the effects of aerial eradication, and 3) requiring technical evidence far beyond the means of poor rural Colombian farmers. Furthermore, in the specific context of the collectively titled black communities of the Pacific region, aerial eradication authorities did not respect the right to previous consultation per Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention 169.
This dissertation concludes that that aerial eradication —justified by notions of security and environmental conservation that had little to do with black communities of the Pacific region— operated as a means of displacement. This displacement was literal in the sense that aerial eradication made life difficult for people to live in affected communities and figurative because local knowledge was pushed aside in favor of the external interpretations of the effects of this counternarcotics policy.

Clashing of two ‘parallel’ legal worlds: the allocation of the right to Tax and the Social security contribution. : The dis-coordination of tax law and social security law specifically witnessed with remote workers: brief analyze of those term and the issues born thereof.Gashi, Sylvie Coralie January 2022 (has links)
In the understanding of the author tax law and social security laws are studied in general separately. The author agrees with many doctrine authors that find it ‘surprising’ as this is a complete and linked issue, that all remote worker even cross-border/frontier workers face. However, it is worth mentioning here, for future reference and for the understanding in the continuity of this paper, is that remote worker and cross-border - frontier worker have usually different rules surrounding them. Additionally it may seem unusual for the reader to link digitalization of the economy and all its development with remote work; tax law and social security but in the eyes of the author it is all in some way linked. Firstly, developments in the digital world and its impact in economy transcendance in mobility of individuals. Which gives principally, the opportunities for employees to work from a remote place. Secondly, again in the eyes of the author, especially after the courses taken during this master year and in concordance with all the research done for this study; tax law and social security law are linked with each other. In conjunction the author finds it useful to study the issue born from the difficulty of tax allocation in regards to remote worker and the lack of compatibility between the social security legal system and the tax legal system. It is the purpose of this thesis to analyse and study these topics separately and then discuss throughout the paper the issues that may affect individuals especially remote workers but also states especially in our post pandemic states.

Exploring Tensions between Appropriability and Openness to Collaboration in InnovationStefan, Ioana January 2017 (has links)
Researchers, policy makers and practitioners alike have in recent years acknowledged a growing tendency towards opening up the innovation process by combining internal organizational assets with external actors’ resources. However, opening up the innovation process usually also entails revealing ideas, which may result in misappropriation. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate tensions related to the openness-appropriability relationship; this is done in three studies. The first study concerns a specific contextual factor that is likely to stress the openness-appropriability tensions: the location of external partners in innovation. The second study relates to the way managing openness-appropriability tensions affects performance, and the third study involves a theoretical discussion about the nature of the tensions occurring in the openness-appropriability relationship, i.e. paradoxical, dilemmatic, or dialectical. The first two studies apply quantitative methods, using survey data, while the third is a conceptual paper. The findings from the first study indicate that the use of different groups of appropriability mechanisms varies across various types of openness and that the location of external partners in innovation refines these linkages even more. The second study’s main takeaway is that the higher appropriability intensity, i.e. the extent to which appropriability mechanisms are put into practice, explains higher performance outcomes. The third study suggests that the tensions between openness and appropriability are more likely of paradoxical nature. From a theoretical perspective, findings indicate that paradoxical tensions between openness and appropriability may have a spatial dimension, and that these tensions should also be investigated in regards to performance. Managerial implications point out that opening up to innovation partners located abroad is likely to require more costly appropriability mechanisms. /
QC 20170126
