O estudo de memes no ensino de língua

Santos, Anselma Morais 20 November 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / In this article we will discuss the genre meme as a proposal to a reflection about reading comprehension in its various modalities, attending to a pedagogical practice of language teaching more inclusive and more focused on literacy and citizenship of basic education students. We define meme as a genre that lies at the interface and dialogism with other more traditional comic material, such as cartoon, charge, and comic strips, but with a freer structure. It consists of verbal and nonverbal texts, very meaningful, usually dealing on social issues of a more polemic nature about everyday life, politics, sports and alike. The objective of the research aims to study and make a more detailed discussion about meme with students from public schools of Sergipe, which are coming out of elementary school (ninth grade and fourth EJAEF stage), as well as a description of how the said genre was analyzed and discussed by them. The theoretical and methodological assumptions are based on studies of Kleiman (1989; 2005) about reading, literacy and citizenship; of Leffa (1996) about a more cognitive perspective reading, and Perrenoud (2000), about new technologies, among other authors. The results highlight the inclusion of memes in language teaching is promising, especially to promote identity in the group with issues beyond the school walls.

[pt] ENSINO E APRENDIZAGEM DE LEITURA EM INGLÊS PARA FINS ESPECÍFICOS EM CONTEXTO DIGITAL / [en] TEACHING AND LEARNING READING IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES IN THE DIGITAL CONTEXT

WILLIAM EDUARDO DA SILVA 22 October 2012 (has links)
[en] The main focus of this research is the learning of reading in English for specific purposes in an online course for undergraduate students of Chemistry. The research was carried out following the principles of English for Specific Purposes (SCOTT, 1986; HUTCHINSON AND WATERS, 1987; DUDLEY-EVANS AND ST-JOHN, 1998), the view of reading strategies (Leff, 1996; SOLE, 1998 ), the theories of textual genres (BAKHTIN, 2003, SWALES, 1990; BHATIA, 1993, among others) and the use of information and communication technologies in language teaching and learning (KERN AND WARSCHAUER, 2001, WARSCHAUER, 2004; LAMY AND HAMPEL, 2007). Based on these theories, we asked the following research questions: (a) How do learners construct knowledge of reading in English for academic purposes in na online course? (b) How did the resources and activities contribute to the learning of reading? The research included a qualitative analysis based on virtual ethnography generated data (forum postings, learning diary notes and responses to self-assessment questionnaires). In addition, the tools used in the teaching-learning platform (Moodle) were subject to analysis in order to determine what resources facilitated and contributed to the development of learners‟ reading skills. Finally, the results point to an increased awareness regarding the process of reading in English. In addition, resources and activities provided greater flexibility in time and space, autonomy, satisfaction, interaction and collaboration among participants.

New Media and ICT for Social Change and Development in China

Shi, Song 01 September 2013 (has links)
As the country with biggest Internet population, by December 2011, China had at least 513 million Internet users. As the biggest developing country in the world, in the past three decades China experienced rapid social change and enormous economic development. The impacts of new media and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) on social change and development in China have attracted increasing attention among scholar communities. This dissertation aims to study the new media and ICT for social change and development phenomena in China. It draws upon data from my fieldwork and participant observations in the past three years as well as a nationwide large sample survey of ICT use among Chinese CSOs (civil society organizations). I situate this research primarily in the theoretical framework of communication for development and social change studies (e.g., Servaes, 1999; Servaes, 2008). In this research, new media and ICT for social change phenomena refer to the widely emerging new media and ICT for social change and development policies, projects, or actions initiated by different stakeholders including government, CSOs, and individual activists. Through a case analysis approach, this research analyzes specific new media and ICT for social change cases, conducted by different stakeholders, concerning urgent social change issues such as digital inequality, CSOs empowerment, government accountability and transparency, and hunger/malnutrition using various communication for development and social change theories as well as other new media studies theories and the ICT/new media for social change model that I propose in Chapter two. This research reveals: how different stakeholders engage in new media for social change and development interventions (policies, projects or actions); the communication channels involved in these interventions; the relation and the interactions of different stakeholders in these new media for social change interventions; the sustainability issue of these social change and development interventions. The findings of the research show that the new media for social change model I propose is an effective analytical framework for the study of new media for social change. The research reveals that a multi-channel perspective which incorporates ICTs and other communication channels as well as the interactions between different channels is of great significance in the study of new media for social change. Moreover, the analysis of the interactions between different communication channels shows that in the media environment of convergence culture (Jenkins, 2006), in social change actions, the relation between ICT channels and other communication channels is not an either/or relation. They interact with each and reinforce each other in the social change actions. The research also shows that the multi-stakeholders approach I employed can significantly enrich our knowledge of the new media for social change phenomena. The multi-dimensional relations and interactions between different stakeholders in social change interventions are important issues that the study of new media for social change should address.

A Deweyan Perspective on Knowledge Producing Schools: Re-creative technologies for communities of inquirers

Schneider, Sandra Beth 20 November 2006 (has links)
This dissertation is an investigation into Knowledge Producing Schools (KPS). KPS is a socio-cultural change effort that reforms that traditional structures of schooling and the connections between schools and the communities in which schools are embedded. KPS schools attempts, through New Literacies, to bring out-of-school practices into schools, in an effort to make students' schooling experiences overall and those incorporating technology more relevant. The position of this dissertation supports KPS goals while rejecting the pedagogy of New Literacies. Instead this dissertations builds upon two elements implicit in KPS/New Literacies work, social inquiry and the facilitation of publics. By making these implict KPS elements explicit this dissertation offers a KPS-Dewey hybrid that locates socio-cultral change efforts in public social inquiry contexts that supports and helps create the communal conditions that can facilitates able, active, publics. These able publics work toward community self-management and alternative representation while dealing with daily problems and current matters of concern. Able publics have been a recent concern in the educational literature that calls for the need of educational reform to be resituated as social movements for education equity. / Ph. D.
