do inglês Smoothed Particles Hydrodynamics.
operadores diferenciais discretos definidos no
[en] Poisson`s equation is of fundamental importance in many
research areas in engineering and the mathematical and
physical sciences. Its numerical solution uses several
approaches among them finite differences and finite
elements. In this work we propose a method to solve
Poisson`s equation using the particle method known as SPH
(Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics). The proposed method
together with an accurate analysis of the discrete
differential operators defined by SPH are applied in two
related situations: the Hodge-Helmholtz vector field
decomposition and the numerical simulation of the
Navier-Stokes equations.

[en] COUPLED SYSTEMS IN MECHANICS: FLUID STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS / [pt] SISTEMAS ACOPLADOS EM MECÂNICA: INTERAÇÕES FLUIDO-ESTRUTURADAMIEN FOINY 11 December 2017 (has links)
[en] Fluid-structure interactions are very common in mechanical and civil engineering because many structures, as bridges, offshore risers, transmission lines or wind turbines are directly in contact with a fluid, which can
be air, which will be source of wind, or water, which will perturb the structure through waves. An important role of the engineer is to prevent structure failure due to instabilities created by the fluid-structure interactions. This work will first present all the basic concepts needed for the study of fluid-structure interaction problems. Thus, a dimensional analysis of those problems is performed and also all the equations governing such cases are presented. Then, thanks to the dimensional analysis made, a classification of problems, namely based on the reduced velocity, can be done and some conclusions
concerning the consequences of the fluid-structure interactions can be drawn in terms of stability or, which is more interesting, instability. Indeed, using simplified models one can show static and dynamic flow-induced instabilities that may be critical for the structure. The final parts of the work will present a specific non-linear structure, a suspension bridge. First the formulation of a simplified one-dimensional model is explained and then, through a finite element discretization, a dynamical study is performed. Also,
some conclusions are made concerning the dynamic of suspension bridges. The last part of this work presents a method that was an important source of publication for us, the Smooth Decomposition method.

[en] ON THE APPLICATION OF SIGNAL ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES TO REAL TIME COMMUNICATION AND CLASSIFICATION / [pt] TÉCNICAS APLICADAS À COMUNICAÇÃO EM TEMPO REAL E À SUA CLASSIFICAÇÃOBRUNO COSENZA DE CARVALHO 12 March 2003 (has links)
Porém, o maior problema associado a
offline - . A preocupação então passou a ser rastrear a
variação do comportamento dos subespaços vetoriais de modo
eficiente.
[en] The signal subspace analysis technique, usually applied to
signals corrupted by noise, is theme of some papers since
the beginning of the 80s decade. This new technique has
presented important features, as robustness and precision,
and became widely employed in digital signal processing.
However, the main problem associated to this new method is
the high computational cost. This characteristic
has restricted the use of signal subspace analysis to some
off-line systems. A possible way to overcome this burden
was to track the signal and noise subspace behavior in the
time-domain. The main objective of these methods is to
allow the signal subspace analysis technique application to
real time systems, sometimes at the expense of limiting
analysis precision or scope. This work proposes a new
subspace tracking procedure. The goal is to describe a new
algorithm with good performance (precision-speed), allowing
some real time systems applications. A new analysis and
characterization of almost circulant systems is introduced
by reinterpreting the circulating matrix decomposition
scheme. The set of contributions is applied to a new
analogue modulation communication signals automatic
recognition structure.

[en] SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF COPPER-NIQUEL ALLOYS CONTAINING ALUMINA NANOPARTICLES / [pt] SÍNTESE E CARACTERIZAÇÃO DE LIGAS COBRE-NÍQUEL CONTENDO NANOPARTICULAS DE ALUMINA14 December 2021 (has links)
[en] Materials containing nanostructured particles have been studied over the last decades in order to take advantage of their promising thermal, mechanical and catalytic properties. Some recent progress has shown that these properties can be further enhanced by the inclusion of materials with different properties in their structure, thereby forming nanocomposites. For instance, Ni-Cu alloys are highly ductile, but the presence of Al2O3 nanoparticles deposited inside the alloy matrix can considerably improve the material s hardness. Such a nanocomposite can be obtained, for example, through nitrate solutions thermal decomposition followed by selective reduction with hydrogen. In this context, the present work focuses on the synthesis of CuNi alloys and CuNi/Al2O3 composites based on the selective reduction of copper and nickel oxides with pure H2, co-formed with aluminum oxide through thermal decomposition of aqueous solutions of their metal nitrates. Thermodynamic computations showed that the Cu and Ni reduction can be accomplished at relatively low temperatures (400 plus or minus 5 C degrees), and also that the process develops selectively (only the oxides of Ni and Cu react at the imposed conditions), resulting in Cu-Ni-Al2O3 composites, consisting in a Cu-Ni alloy crystals containing 1 percent of Al2O3 as fine homogeneously distributed nanoparticles. Both the original (co-formed) and reduced oxide samples were characterized using x ray diffraction (XRD) for determining the nature of the individual phases present (oxides and alloys) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as a first approach to the investigation of the morphology of the particles. The results indicate that the proposed chemical route resulted in composite materials containing CuNi alloy and Al2O3 particles of controllable composition and homogeneously distributed among the samples. The achieved results also suggest that for the imposed experimental conditions both the nitrate decomposition as well as the reduction reactions could be conducted to 100 percent conversion.

central unidimensional. No nosso contexto a hiperbolicidade parcial esta
definida somente no atrator.
transitivos. / [en] In this work we extend the results in (12) and (22) about the minimality
of one of the strong foliations (stable or unstable), for the case of robustly
transitive attractors that is partially hyperbolic with one dimensional center
bundle. In our context the partial hyperbolicity is defined only in the
attractor. Some consequences are obtained as the verification that these
attractors are (robustly) homoclinic classes, have (robustly) empty interior
and admit a spectral decomposition. Similar results still holds in the case
of generically transitive attractors.

[pt] ESTUDO CINÉTICO DA DECOMPOSIÇÃO TÉRMICA DE SULFATOS: EXPERIMENTOS DE TG E MODELAGEM / [en] KINETIC STUDY ON THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF SULFATES: TGA EXPERIMENTS AND MODELLINGARTUR SERPA DE CARVALHO REGO 24 November 2022 (has links)
Além disso, a modelagem desses processos permite
[en] The interest over of the decomposition of sulfates has increased due
to its capacity of generating clean H2 through the thermochemical cycles.
Understanding the decomposition mechanism is relevant to future industrial
design and applications. Moreover, the modeling of these processes gives the
information needed to know how much energy is required for the occurrence
of the reactions. Among the different reaction systems, it is observed a
range of complexity, with the presence of intermediate phases, and multiple
consecutive or simultaneous reactions. Therefore, the present work proposed
to develop a modeling methodology for the thermal decomposition of sulfates
systems with different complexity levels: aluminum sulfate, potassium alum,
mixture of aluminum sulfate and potassium sulfate, zinc sulfate, and iron (II)
sulfate. The experiments were performed using thermogravimetric analysis
(TGA) to understand the decomposition stages and use the data in the
modeling step. The developed model consisted of a system of differential
equations to describe every reaction taking place in the decomposition. The
kinetic parameters estimation was made by using particle swarm optimization.
The results indicate that potassium sulfate catalyzes the decomposition of
aluminum sulfate. In the case of zinc, the desulfation of anhydrous zinc sulfate
occurs in two stages, with the presence zinc oxysulfate as an intermediate
phase. Iron (II) sulfate also shows a complex decomposition system, as it
first decomposes into iron (III) sulfate before it is completely converted into
hematite. All the modeling results displayed an excellent agreement with the
experimental data, with R2 values above 0.98 for all cases.

decomposição do MgSO4. Assim sendo este trabalho avaliou aspectos da
decomposição do MgSO4 através de dois artigos. O artigo 1
(Thermodynamics Simulations and Kinetics Modeling of the Thermal
Decomposition of MgSO4.7H2O: Part 1 – Reducing Agent Effect), avaliou o
que o artigo 2 (Thermodynamics Simulations and Kinetics Modeling of the
Thermal Decomposition of MgSO4.7H2O: Part 2 – Hydration Effect) analisou
redutores, carvão vegetal, coque verde, coque breeze e grafite. No artigo
(sulfato puro)
para 340,391 kJ.mol(-1)
(coque verde), 196,120 kJ.mol(-1)
(grafite), 191,100
kJ.mol(-1)
(coque breeze) e 162,302 kJ.mol(-1)
(carvão vegetal). No artigo 2, a
(mono), 407 KJ.mol(-1)
(anidro)
e 433,3 KJ.mol(-1)
(hepta). / [en] Magnesium sulfate is present in several industrial and mining wastes.
It and its derivatives could be reused in various industrial areas, ceasing to
be a waste to become part of a process. Its oxide, MgO, can be used in
some functions, as a pH regulator, depending on its reactivity. Due to this,
its formation must occur at temperatures below the decomposition
temperatures of MgSO4. Therefore, this work evaluated aspects of the
decomposition of MgSO4 through two articles. Article 1 (Thermodynamics

MgSO4.7H2O: Part 1 – Reducing Agent Effect), evaluated the kinetic effect
of using carbon, through four different reducing agents, on the thermal
decomposition of MgSO4.7H2O, while article 2 (Thermodynamics
Simulations and Kinetics Modeling of the Thermal Decomposition of
MgSO4.7H2O: Part 2 – Hydration Effect) analyzed the influences of the
heating rate of the tests and the degree of hydration of the magnesium
sulfate used. The thermogravimetric tests carried out throughout these
articles used samples with a mass of approximately 10 mg of the mixture
(sulfate + reducing agent) and these mixtures had a stoichiometric ratio of
1:1. The experiments carried out in article 1 used reducing agents, charcoal,
green coke, breeze coke, and graphite as reducing agents. In article 2, the
sulfates analyzed were anhydrous, monohydrate, and heptahydrate and the
heating rates used were 5 K.min(-1)
, 10 K.min(-1)
, 15 K.min(-1)
, and 20 K.min(-1).
All data obtained from thermogravimetric tests were processed through
mathematical modeling to obtain kinetic data. In article 1, the use of
reducing agents proved efficient, reducing the activation energy of
magnesium sulfate decomposition from 22.731 kJ.mol(-1)
(pure sulfate) to
340.391 kJ.mol(-1)
(green coke), 196.120 kJ.mol(-1)
(graphite), 191,100 kJ.mol(-1)
(coke breeze) and 162,302 kJ.mol(-1)
(charcoal). In article 2, the heating rate
was not shown to be a determining factor for the decomposition of MgSO4,
in relation to the hydration of magnesium sulfate, the results indicated that
a small portion of H2O in the system can positively influence the
decomposition since the average Ea values were 404.5 KJ.mol(-1)
(mono),
407 KJ.mol(-1)
(anhydrous) and 433.3 KJ.mol(-1)
(hepta).

[en] Hydrogen presents itself as a potential alternative fuel to replace fossil fuels and, for this reason, studies and research on the production and storage routes of this resource are in vogue in the scientific community. The methods for obtaining H2 are diverse, however, not all methods are from renewable sources. The thermochemical cycles of splitting water are promising alternatives. In this context, the sulfur-iodine cycle is one of the highlighted cycles, characterized by a three-stage process whose third stage is the challenging stage of the cycle, where the decomposition of sulfuric acid occurs, which requires a high energy expenditure for formation selection of sulfur dioxide and oxygen. The use of metal sulfates associated with reducing agents and additives in substitution for sulfuric acid in the sulfur-iodine cycle has been studied. Thus, the present research work evaluated the thermal decomposition of zinc sulfate monohydrate in the presence of elemental sulfur modifying agents, Pd-
(gamma)Al2O3, CeO2 and CeO2 / ZnO that stimulate the transformation of sulfur trioxide in the respective dioxide. In addition to a thermodynamic study of the reaction system and thermal analyzes via TGA that indicated a change in the sulphate decomposition behavior in the presence of the reducing agent and additives, the work predicted the characterization of the reaction products indicating the presence of zinc oxide and a study kinetics of the systems in the presence of the mentioned agents, allowing the calculation of activation energies and kinetic parameters. The thermodynamic assessment indicated a favorable aspect regarding the decrease in the decomposition temperature of zinc sulfate as well as with regard to the transformation of SO3 into SO2. In the presence of Pd-(gamma)Al2O3, the final temperature of the sulphate decomposition occurred 100 C degrees below the usual temperature. The total mass loss calculated for the decomposition of pure sulfate was 55 percent. In studies with the presence of agents, the calculated total mass losses were 60 percent, 54 percent, 62 percent, 57 percent corresponding to zinc sulfate in the presence of elemental sulfur, Pd-(gamma)Al2O3, CeO2 and CeO2 / ZnO, respectively.

[pt] RUMO A UMA ABORDAGEM COMBINATÓRIA DA TOPOLOGIA DOS ESPAÇOS DE CURVAS ESFÉRICAS NÃO-DEGENERADAS / [en] TOWARDS A COMBINATORIAL APPROACH TO THE TOPOLOGY OF SPACES OF NONDEGENERATE SPHERICAL CURVESJOSÉ VICTOR GOULART NASCIMENTO 03 November 2016 (has links)
[en] The space of nondegenerate curves on the n-sphere subject to a fixed
monodromy matrix (provided with a suitable Hilbert manifold structure) is
decomposed into a countable collection of contractible cells parameterized
by the SOn+1-lifted curves admissible itineraries through cells arriving from
a stratification of SOn+1 closely related to the classical Bruhat decomposition
of GLn+1. The expression admissible itinerary herein stands for a
finite sequence of cells subject to a few constraints that are otherwise naturally
suggested by the geometry of the problem. The main interest of such
a new approach is that this combinatorialization works homogeneously in
any dimension n (with obvious computational difficulties), unlike the more
geometry-flavoured ad-hoc methods for achieving topological information
about these and related spaces of curves (which usually have had a good
run only in low dimensions n). This approach can be regarded as a first
attempt at a unified method for figuring out the homotopy-type of such
spaces, and it helps to override some functional analysis arguments usually
deployed in defining the right topology for these spaces of curves.
