Orientador: Leila Mezan Algranti / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciencias Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-03T15:04:13Z (GMT). This thesis aims to analyze the performance of the Senate of Vila Rica' s Chamber from 1706 to 1808 in its different dimensions: politic, social and economic dimensions. The study is directed to the political and administrative government of the officials of Vila Rica' s city-council, trying to analyze the performance of this "local bureaucracy" in the changing character of temporal context mentioned. The long term perspective seeks to embrace a period, in which occurred an internal economic reorganization in Minas Gerais captaincy, while the mining acme began to recede to mercantile activities of subsistence directed to urban economy. In this period, thus, the mining activity was no longer the principal activity in Minas Gerais economy, in fact, mercantile as well as agricultural activities become its principal business. In this context, we are looking forward to establishing the existent relations between the Senate of Vila Rica' s Chamber, the Crown representatives in Minas Gerais government and Metropolitan authorities. On the one side, we try to establish the political space that this institution occupied inside the Captaincy in the relations maintained with military forces, the hearers, but also with some governors or General-Captains. On the other side, we try to portray the ways of communication and negotiation direct1y established between the chamberlain and the Metropolitan State representatives, who were in Lisbon city / Doutorado / Doutor em História

The Public Speaking of John Taylor: Champion of Liberty

Anderson, Larry D. 01 January 1986 (has links) (PDF)
The speaking of John Taylor influenced the lives of Latter-day Saints for five decades. He delivered between two and three thousand addresses. In those addresses he promulgated a diversity of principles concerning the kingdom of God. This study focused on Taylor's ideas regarding liberty. Those ideas were often found in Taylor's speaking between 1857 and 1867. It was a time of threatened liberties for the people he lead. His speeches during those years played a significant part in swaying politcal and military efforts, as well as bolstering Mormon determination. This study found that Taylor's ideas of liberty are based largely on his religious fundament. To Taylor, religious and poilitcal philosophy were inseparably inter-related. He believed that the Latter-day Saints had special rights. He presented his ideas to Mormon and Gentile alike in pointed, frank sermons. Taylor spoke as he lived--with great intensity.

Le belle infedeli : l'Iliade in versi e in prosa dell'abate Melchiorre Cesarotti

Barreca, Francesca January 1992 (has links)
The following work consists of a careful analysis of the translation of the Iliad by Homer prepared by Melchiorre Cesarotti. Caught amidst the dilemma of loyalty to the original and the beauty of translation, Cesarotti decided to compose two versions: one in blank verses and the other in prose. This work is therefore none other than a comparison between Cesarotti's version in poetry and the version in prose. / The first part deals briefly with a few details on the criticism that Cesarotti's work raised. / The second part consists of the comparison work, which is subdivided in "Canti" (as Cesarotti's version in poetry) because the work proposes to compare the version in poetry to the version in prose and not vice-versa. / The last part examines the artistic value of Cesarotti's translations and the place they occupy in Europe in the eighteenth century.
