The originating impulses of Ankoku Butoh: towards an understanding of the trans-cultural embodiment of Tatsumi Hijikata's dance of darknessTruter, Orlando Vincent January 2008 (has links)
From Introduction: Ankoku Butoh is a performing art devised in Japan in the wake of the Second World War by the dancer and choreographer Tatsumi Hijikata (born Akita, 1928; died Tokyo, 1986). A highly aesthetic and subversive performing art, Butoh often evokes "images of decay, of fear and desperation, images of eroticism, ecstasy and stillness." Typically performed with a white layer of paint covering the entire body of the dancer, Butoh is visually characterized by continual transformations between postures, distorted physical and facial expressions, and an emphasis on condensed and visually slow movements. Some of the general characteristics of Butoh performance include "a particular openness to working with the subtle energy in the body; the malleability of time; the power of the grotesque."

Leoš Janáček : Glagolská mše / Leoš Janáček " Glagolitic MassKružík, Robert January 2015 (has links)
Works of Leoš Janáček were always very close to me. I grew up listening to them , when I was a child I listened to his operas many times in the Janáček Theatre, where my father worked for years. I was therefore very excited to delve myself into the work of the Glagolitic Mass, and I am also sure that it is very good material to write a thesis. In the main part of this work I´m going to focus on comparing different interpretive approaches, because we can interpret Janáček´sworks in many different ways and it is hard to determine which is the right one. Me as a native of Brno, i inclined to the "Brno" tradition of interpreting master´s works. I´m very curious about all the different interpretations, above all Sir Charles Mackerras, who is credited with promoting the Janáček music in the world.

Beginning with interdisciplinarity notion, this work has been made in the comparative literature’s area, its center is in the relation between Gabriel García Marques writer and Fernando Botero painter, with emphasis in Columbian’s reality interpretation that has been present in theirs works. Bursting out of the corset: physical mobility as social transgression and subversion in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'UrbervillesIssany, Tanzeelah Banu Mamode Ismael 31 January 2004 (has links)
The dissertation is based on Hardy's representation of Victorian working-class women's experience, exemplified by the heroine of Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1891), in the radically gendered nineteenth-century society. Physical mobility as metaphor and metonymy in the novel stands for the transgression and subversion of patriarchal influence and is revealed as having a complex significance in relation to gender distinction. Hardy subverts Victorian norms of femininity through Tess's movements from one physical space to another in her struggle for freedom and autonomy. However, Hardy's inability to transcend completely the conventions of his society is apparent in the way Tess is literally destroyed in her quest for autonomy, respect and contentment. A study of the novel reveals Tess as a victim of the wearing and destructive impact of social and economic realities that Hardy does not adequately questioned. Finally, the novel follows the conventional realist pattern where the transgressive heroine is punished in the end. / English Studies / M.A. (English)

Ellen G. White and Gustavo Gutierrez on christians and involvement in politics : a comparative studyZvandasara, Nkosiyabo, 1961- 11 1900 (has links)
Ellen G. White and Gustavo Gutierrez make significant
contributions on the issue of christians and involvement in
politics. A knowledge of their backgrounds and theological
orientations is helpful. White was born in 1827. She is
accepted as a prophet in the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Central to her theology is the sanctuary doctrine which also
influences her views on politics. White holds that christians
may participate in the "broad" but not the "narrow" aspect of
politics.
A Roman Catholic priest, Gutierrez was born in 1928.
Many regard him as the pioneer of liberation theology. The
starting point for his theology is the situation of poverty in
Latin America. This influences his views on politics. He
also argues for christians' participation in the "broad" but
not the "narrow" aspect of politics. White and Gutierrez have
more points of agreement than disagreement. Comparing their
views on politics provides useful insights on christians'
participation in politics.

Memorial do Convento (1982), by José Saramago (1922), is the main work in our research corpus, in which the Portuguese author uses one of the representative elements of the expression that is associated, in a way, with the Hispano-American literature and is called magical realism. It is through the perspective of this literary category that we propose an analysis of Saramago's novel. The most important element in the configuration of magical realism is the discovery of the mysterious relationship between man and the circumstances that surround him. It is important to clarify that magical realism today is not confined to Latin America, but was absorbed by other literatures; its main concern is to show a new attitude of the narrator towards reality. The work of José Saramago and Gabriel García Márquez (1928) - a writer whose novel Cem Anos de Solidão (1967) is also, secondarily, a part of our corpus - resemble each other in certain narrative procedures, like magical realism itself, the breakdown of linear logic and the diversity of narrative voices, all of which warrant their proximity. By considering those procedures, common in Hispano-American literature, we intend to study the aesthetic communion between the two narratives, showing how magical realism informs the relationship between history and fiction in José Saramago's novel.

Assim, Chomsky propõe um princípio auto-realizador criativo, inerente à espécie / The present work attempts to investigate the political conceptions of Noam Chomsky’s philosophy of language. Through construction of human nature concept developed by the linguist (suggestive model), there is an important mediation between language and politics. Chomsky’s methodology constitutes a vigorous effort to build a mediation of human action related to the socialism and to the freedom. The language linked to human knowledge reflects the essential properties of the spirit. The epistemological reflection raised by the analysis of language, despite its technical counterpoints, such as the linguistic science, feeds a philosophical range with ramifications in the fields of ethics, political philosophy and aesthetics, even coming to a social theory. Thus, Chomsky proposes a principle of creative self-realization as inherent to the species
