Analysis Of Immunoreactivity Of Nos Isoforms (nnos, Enos, Inos) In Hippocampus Of Young Rats Classified As Good And Poor Learners

Despite very extensive studies on molecular mechanisms of learning and memory formation it is little known about individual variation in the learning skills within a random animal population and about the differences in the brain biochemistry behind this variation. In the present study, we have focused on the expression and distribution of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), one of the molecules implemented in activity-dependent neuroplasticity, in the rat hippocampus, the structure critical for episodic memory in humans and animals. The aim of the present study was to investigate the differences in expression of three different NOS isoforms: neural (n), epithelial (e), and inducible (i), in four hippocampal subregions (CA1, CA3, DG, and hilus) between Wistar rats classified on the basis of their performance in partially baited 12-arm radial maze as &ldquo / good&rdquo / and &ldquo / poor&rdquo / learners. The NOS isoforms were visualized on coronal hippocampal sections using fluorescent immunohistochemistry technique and n- and eNOS images were processed using ImageJ software, while iNOS immunoreactivity (IR) was assessed by counting immunoreactive cells. In this study, overall hippocampal levels of nNOS were significantly higher than those of eNOS and iNOS. The level of n and eNOS was higher in CA1 compared to DG/hilus areas, but lower than that in CA3 region. The expression of iNOS was the highest in CA1 and the lowest in hilus region. nNOS IR was significantly higher in &ldquo / poor&rdquo / than in &ldquo / good&rdquo / learners but only in CA1 region. No significant between-group differences were found in eNOS expression. iNOS expression was higher in &ldquo / poor&rdquo / learners but it did not reach the required significance level.

Three Dimensional Finite Element Analysis Of A Novel Bracing System In Small Deep Excavations

One of the most common retaining systems for deep excavations is by supporting a wall with multiple levels of anchors. In densely built urban areas, preventing soil movement with such a system can be very costly. Additionally, anchored walls are assumed and forced to act independently during design calculations, thus fail to take the advantage of the rigidity of the whole system at the corners of the excavation area. An alternative support system that uses the entire system is bracing of the walls with struts. But such a system greatly hinders construction space. In this research, a new type of supporting system has been investigated by performing a parametric study in finite element analyses program. New system is a single ring at each support level, supporting the system at several locations. A comparative study has been undertaken between the conventional systems and the new system in both 2D and 3D. PLAXIS finite element analysis software was used for the analyses. The primary aim was to investigate the structural and geotechnical performance of the arch supported system. The study revealed that the new system provides improvement for specific cases and can be considered as an alternatve support system for such cases.

Behavioral deficits caused by fetal-alcohol are well expressed in juvenile subjects but usually ameliorate with maturation. It suggests some kind of postnatal regeneration. The aim of the present study was to examine the potential correlation between behavioral recovery and the postnatal hippocampal development in the fetal-alcohol rats. This study included behavioral tests applied to juvenile and adult subjects, unbiased stereology to investigate changes in neuron numbers and hippocampal volumes, the postnatal tracing and analysis of the hippocampal principal neuron&rsquo / s morphology, investigation of age-dependent changes in the distribution of doublecortin-expressing neurons, and evaluation of synaptic development by assessing age-dependent changes in the regional immunoreactivity/expression of synaptophysin and PSD95. Rats have been exposed to ethanol throughout 7-21 gestation days with daily ethanol dose of 6g/kg delivered by intragastric intubation to the pregnant dams. The morphological characteristics were examined on postnatal days P1, P10, P30, P60, in hippocampal CA1, CA3, and DG subregions, in fetal-alcohol and control rats. Both, stereological and doublecortin-immunoreactivity data pointed towards a possibility of limited neurogenesis taking place during a protracted postnatal period not only in the germinal zones (SGZ and SVZ) but also in the hippocampal CA regions. Ethanol effect on postnatal hippocampal development was limited to marginally lower number of granular cells in DG on P30. It correlated with poorer cognitive performance in the fetal-alcohol group. The treatment effect on the morphology of hippocampal neurons was observed mainly in CA region at P1 and seemed to be attributed more to the intubation stress than the ethanol itself.

Archery can be described as a static sport requiring strength and endurance of the upper body, in particular the shoulder girdle (Mann, 1984 / Mann &amp / Littke, 1989). To get a good record in an archery competition, one requires well-balanced and highly reproducible movements during the shooting (Nishizono, 1987). The bowstring is released when audible impetus is received from a device called &ldquo / clicker&rdquo / . As the fall of the clicker is an acoustic stimulus, it may evoke a sequence of potentials that can be recorded from the scalp of an archer. Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEPs) occur at different latencies and with various relations to the auditory stimuli. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating the Long-latency Auditory Evoked Potentials in Recurve Archery. Research questions can be stated briefly as follows: (1) What kind of Brain Potentials are Evoked by the Event (Fall of Clicker) during Archery Shooting? (2) Is there any significant difference between the characteristics of the potentials measured in laboratory conditions and during archery shooting? (3) Is there any significant difference between the successful and unsuccessful shots in terms of Auditory Evoked Brain Potentials? (4) Does Archery Shooting session have any effect on Auditory Evoked Brain Potentials? The subjects of the present study were 10 non-archers (N=6 males / N=4 females) for control trials and 15 archers (N=9 males / N=6 females) for archery shooting experiments. All subjects reported normal hearing, had medical histories free of significant neurological problems, and were not taking medication known to affect brain activity. Six different control paradigms have been created. Archery shootings were performed from 18 m that is official competition distance with target face.AEBPs were recorded 200 ms before and 800 ms after the trigger (fall of the clicker) over the vertex during the shots of each subject. Paradigm 1 and 5 was conducted just before and after the archery shooting to test the effect of archery shooting on AEBPs. The hit-area is defined as the rectangle between (x1, y1), (x1, y2), (x2, y1), (x2, y2) and the miss-area is the outer part of the hit-area on the target face. The preliminary analysis has shown that fall of the clicker evokes long latency auditory brain potentials with the latency of 100 msec and 200 msec. These responses are called as N1-P2 components. The means and standard deviations of both N100 and P200 amplitudes were as follows: N100 = 27,73 &plusmn / 16,82, P200 = -21,89 &plusmn / 20,46. The latencies of given brain responses were also summarized as: N100 = 141,93 &plusmn / 41,46 / P200 = 211,8 &plusmn / 43,97. N1 amplitude was significantly different in archery shooting than that of control conditions (p&lt / 0.05) except for trial 3, N1 latency was significantly different than that of trial 2 &ndash / 5 (p&lt / 0.05). P2 amplitude is significantly different in archery shooting than that of trial 6 (p&lt / 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in terms of P2 latency between archery shooting and control conditions (p&gt / 0.05). There was no significant difference between successful and unsuccessful shots in terms of N1-P2 components (p&gt / 0.05). An archery shooting session did not create any difference between these components recorded before and after the shot (p&gt / 0.05). Having higher N1 amplitudes during archery shooting can be explained by the known multi-component structure of this wave. Different lobes and regions of the brain can be active during the time of the scalp-recorded N1 and simultaneous involvement of several of these areas may be contributing to the electrical field recorded at scalp in the archery shooting paradigm.

Mineralogical, Petrographical And Geochemical Properties Of Zeolite Bearing Tuffs In Nw Anatolia (turkey)

The purpose of this study is to understand the geological, petrographical, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of analcime-bearing tuffs in the Biga Peninsula and to determine formation process of these tuffs. The study area lies between Ayvacik and K&uuml / &ccedil / &uuml / kkuyu. The rock units are pre-Eocene basement rocks, Miocene Behram Volcanics (Arikli Tuff, andesite, andesitic agglomerate), Pliocene volcanics, Miocene lacustrine sediments (K&uuml / &ccedil / &uuml / kkuyu Formation) and Quaternary alluvium. Analcimes which are found in Arikli Tuff are the main objective of this study. Detailed petrographical, mineralogical and geochemical studies were caried out on the Arikli Tuff samples by using petrographical microscope, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, diffrential thermal analyses inductively coupled plasma &amp / #8211 / mass spectrometry and optical emission spectrometry. Fine-grained and coarse-grained analcime crystals in Arikli Tuff were determined by their colorless, isotropic, trapezohedral and low relief. In addition to petrographic study, SEM and XRD methods also confirmed the presence of analcime. Two modes of occurrences were determined by the petrographical and mineralogical studies / coarse-grained euhedral or anhedral crystals in cavities and pumice fragments and single crystals or clusters of fine-grained analcimes embedded in the matrix. It was stated that there are two types of formation of analcime / alteration of volcanic glass and precipitation from alkaline solution based on petrographical and SEM studies. Geochemical methods, moreover, support the formation types.

The aim of this study is to extract information about mineral distribution and percentages of Oymaaga&ccedil / granitoid (Beypazari-Ankara) by using remote sensing techniques. Two methods are applied during the studies which are spectral analysis and Crosta techniques. Spectral measurements are done for fresh and weathered samples collected at 32 locations. Mineral percentages are calculated using spectral mixture analysis for each sample by considering main, accessory and secondary mineral content of granodiorite. A total of 10 endmembers for fresh samples and 15 for weathered samples are used. USGS spectral library data is utilized through the analyses. For Crosta technique (image analysis) the multispectral ASTER satellite image is used. Five alteration minerals are discriminated and their maps are generated during this analysis. Interpretation and comparison of the results of both methods and testing these results with the existing petrographical and geochemical data indicate that: 1) according to the results of both spectral analyses and Crosta technique a zonation is not observed in the granitoid, 2) comparison of the results for alteration minerals of these two analyses are partly compatible but not exactly similar, 3) Results of spectral analysis do not fit geochemical nor modal analyses because of inconsistency of the data sets.

Le service public hospitalier a été institué par la loi du 31 décembre 1970 qui en donne une définition fonctionnelle. Bien que le législateur promeuve un modèle hospitalo-centré, il n’exclut pas les établissements privés associés au service public hospitalier par le biais de modalités de participation qui les défavorisent. Affaibli par les réformes hospitalières successives, le service public hospitalier va s’atrophier jusqu’à la réforme du 21 juillet 2009 qui supprime la notion pour lui substituer celle de missions de service public. Cette conception fonctionnelle est conforme à la théorie du service public et compatible avec la définition du service d’intérêt général défendue par le droit de l’Union européenne, mais elle est en décalage avec les faits. À la définition fonctionnelle théorique défendue par le législateur depuis 1970, se substitue, en pratique, une conception organique résultant de modalités de mise en œuvre du service public hospitalier nettement favorables au secteur public. En effet, les établissements publics de santé bénéficient d’un statut singulier caractérisant leur prépondérance. La loi du 26 janvier 2016 confirme la prégnance de la conception organique en réhabilitant la notion de service public hospitalier, et en maintenant les établissements du secteur public dans leur rôle d’acteurs naturels de ce service public. Des interrogations demeurent, toutefois, concernant la pérennité du système de santé. Celui-ci doit céder la place à un service public de santé, intégrant le service public hospitalier, susceptible de chapeauter l’action de l’ensemble des protagonistes de la santé et de garantir le déroulement d’un parcours de santé accessible, égalitaire et qualitatif. / The public hospital utility has been established by the law of December, 31st, 1970, which gives a functional definition. Although the legislator promotes a hospital-centered model, it doesn’t exclude the private establishments associated to the public hospital utility by means of methods of participation which penalize it. Weakened by successive hospital reforms, the public hospital utility will atrophy until the reform of July, 21st, 2009 which deletes the notion and substitutes it by the concept of public service missions. This functional conception is in accordance with the service public theory and compatible with the definition of general interest service defended by the European Union law, but isn’t in keeping with facts. The theoretical functional definition supported by the lawmaker is replaced, in practice, by an organic conception resulting from details of implementation of public hospital utility decidedly favorable to sector public. Indeed, public health establishments benefit from a singular status characterizing its predominance. The law of January, 26, 2016 confirms the resonance of the organic conception by rehabilitating the notion of public hospital utility, and by maintaining public sector institutions in its role of natural actors of this public utility. Questions remain, nonetheless, concerning the durability of the health system. It must step back for a public health service, integrating the public hospital utility, able to head the action of all health protagonists and to guarantee the progress of an accessible, egalitarian and qualitative fitness trail.
