Alix Cléo Roubaud, photographe et écrivain : l'élaboration de l'oeuvre / Alix Cléo Roubaud, photographer and writer : the elaboration of the work

Giannecchini, Hélène 07 October 2016 (has links)
Alix Cléo Roubaud (1953-1983) was a Canadian photographer and writer known as the wife of the poet and mathematician Jacques Roubaud or as the friend of the movie director Jean Eustache. Alix Cléo Roubaud has been for a long time known by other works than her own. Until 2009, her diary, which was published in 1984 by the French publishing house le Seuil, was the only way of discovering her photographs and texts. This book has allowed her work not to be forgotten and has also influenced for a long time the way it has been welcome, that is to say as a private record. This doctoral thesis, based on an unpublished body of more than six hundred photographs, hundreds of letters and theorical essays, proposes to see Alix Cléo Roubaud's work in a new way. Relying on an unfinished production, itstudies the making of the texts as of the photographs and focuses on two main elements, the purpose and the manner of the artist which reveal more the process than the product. In an approach both photographic and literay this thesis proposes to analyse the several forms the artist uses to write about herself, the photographic dimension of her work , not only the photographs she made but also the building of an original picture theory, and finally how the different ways it has been received have contributed to make it understood as well as defined

Littérature, photographie et pornographie : Questions de temporalités / Literature, photography and pornography : questions of time

Chauvet, Émeline 20 September 2019 (has links)
Through the aesthetic similarities between French and American literature and photography, this research work intends to analyse the discourse on pornography (which we will call "metapornography") staged by postmodern art and its repercussions on the pornographic body. This work is based on three photographic series, A History of Sex by Andrés Serrano (1995), Sex Pictures by Cindy Sherman (1992) and Pornography by Édouard Levé (2002), as well as three novels, Souvenirs du triangle d'or by Alain Robbe-Grillet (1978), Blood and Guts in High School by Kathy Acker (1978) and Les particules élémentaires by Michel Houellebecq (1998). A secondary corpus borrowed from literature and photography as well as from films or performance will also support the analysis. The heterogeneity of the corpus of study allowed the search for homogenizing criteria that could guide the whole analysis, namely: the crisis of the subject, the de-hierarchization, the importance of metatextuality with the rejection of the cult of the unique and the permanence of discourses on the end. The demonstration therefore takes these invariants into account by systematically linking them to the expression of a particular temporality and its effects on the pornographic body: we are witnessing a successive deformation of the pornographic body which, by way of hybridity, crossing boundaries and fragmentation, has only one solution left: to rebuild itself. But this reconstruction, intimately linked to a process of diversion, is marked by an aesthetic of the too much and the kitsch. All that remains is a cold, worn-out body, on the edge of death, calling for its own outcome.

Measurement Of The Cross Section Ratio Chi-c2/chi-c1 For Prompt Chi-c Production With Cms Experiment

Akin, Ilina V. 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The prompt production of &chi / c quarkonia is studied in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV, using data collected by CMS in 2011 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb &minus / 1. The &chi / c mesons are reconstructed through their radiative decays to J/&psi / and photon with J/&psi / &rarr / &mu / +&mu / &minus / . The photons are reconstructed through their conversion in electron-positron pairs in the tracking detector which gives a mass resolution sufficient for resolving these states. The ratio of the prompt production cross sections for the &chi / c1 and &chi / c2 states, &sigma / (&chi / c2)/&sigma / (&chi / c1), has been determined as a function of the J/&psi / transverse momentum between 7 and 25 GeV/c.

Scherk-schwarz Reduction Of Effective String Theories In Even Dimensions

Ozer, Aybike (catal) 01 October 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Scherk-Schwarz reductions are a generalization of Kaluza-Klein reductions in which the higher dimensional fields are allowed to have a dependence on the compactiifed coordinates. This is possible only if the higher dimensional theory has a global symmetry and the dependence is dictated by this symmetry. In this thesis we consider generalised Scherk Schwarz reductions of supergravity and superstring theories with twists by electromagnetic dualities that are symmetries of the equations of motion but not of the action, such as the S-duality of $D=4, N=4$ super-Yang-Mills coupled to supergravity. The reduction cannot be done on the action itself, but must be done either on the field equations or on a duality invariant form of the action, such as one in the doubled formalism in which potentials are introduced for both electric and magnetic fields. The resulting theory in odd dimensions has massive form fields satisfying a self-duality condition $dA sim m*A$. We apply these methods to theories in $D=4,6,8$, and obtain new gauged supergravity theories with massive form fields, with Chern-Simons like couplings and with a scalar potential in $D=3,5,7$.

Scalar Mesons In Radiative Phi-meson Decays Into Neutral K-meson States

Sisman Korkmaz, Canan 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Radiative Decays of the phi-meson to the scalar mesons f0(980) and a0(980) are investigated within the framework of charged kaon loop model for both point-like scalar mesons and for scalar mesons with extended structure. Then, the radiative phi-meson decay into neutral K-meson is studied via a two step mechanism in which the scalar mesons couple the final state to the phi-meson through the charged kaon loop. The branching ratio of this decay is calculated and it is shown that this reaction will not provide a significant background to the measurements of phi-meson into neutral K-meson states decay for testing CP violation.

Antineutrino Charm Production And Pentaquark Search In The Chorus Experiment

Kose, Umut 01 November 2006 (has links) (PDF)
During the years between 1994 and 1997, the emulsion target of the CHORUS experiment was exposed to the wide band neutrino beam of the CERN SPS of 27 GeV average energy collecting about 106 neutrino interactions. A measurement of induced charm production and search for anticharmed pentaquark (0 c ) have been performed by using the presence of a 6% component in the beam. By requiring a positive muon charge as determined by the CHORUS muon spectrometer, 46 -induced charm events were observed with an estimated background of 5:20:4 events. At an average antineutrino energy of 18 GeV in the neutrino beam, the charm production rate induced by is

Cutting Strategies For Forging Die Manufacturing On Cnc Milling Machines

Ozgen, Arda 01 March 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Manufacturing of dies has been presenting greater requirements of geometrical accuracy, dimensional precision and surface quality as well as decrease in costs and manufacturing times. Although proper cutting parameter values are utilized to obtain high geometrical accuracy and surface quality, there may exist geometrical discrepancy between the designed and the manufactured surface profile of the die cavities. In milling process / cutting speed, step over and feed are the main cutting parameters and these parameters affect geometrical accuracy and surface quality of the forging die cavities. In this study, effects of the cutting parameters on geometrical error have been examined on a representative die cavity profile. To remove undesired volume in the die cavities, available cutting strategies are investigated. Feed rate optimization is performed to maintain the constant metal removal rate along the trajectory of the milling cutter during rough cutting process. In the finish cutting process of the die cavities, Design of Experiment Method has been employed to find out the effects of the cutting parameters on the geometrical accuracy of the manufactured cavity profile. Prediction formula is derived to estimate the geometrical error value in terms of the values of the cutting parameters. Validity of the prediction formula has been tested by conducting verification experiments for the representative die geometry and die cavity geometry of a forging part used in industry. Good agreement between the predicted error values and the measured error values has been observed.

Effect Of Ecap And Subsequent Heat Treatments On Microstructure And Mechanical Properties Of 2024 Aluminum Alloy

Saraloglu, Ebru 01 September 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Severe plastic deformation (SPD) results in ultra-fine grain sizes in metals and alloys. Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is one of the special SPD methods aiming to introduce high plastic strains into the bulk materials without changing their cross section. ECAP results in improvement in hardness and strength while still satisfying acceptable ductility level. The combined effects of ECAP and subsequent heat treatments, i.e. post-aging and post-annealing, on the microstructure and hardness of the 2024 aluminum alloy were investigated. An ECAP die with 120&amp / #730 / channel angle was constructed. Subgrain formation, increase in dislocation density and dislocation tangling were observed after ECAP, and subgrain growth was detected after post annealing. The specimens revealed higher hardness values after ECAP at room temperature, and further increase in hardness was observed following post-aging at 80&amp / #730 / C, 100&amp / #730 / C and 190&amp / #730 / C. Effect of the aging temperature on the deformed specimens was investigated, and the aging behaviors of the severely deformed and undeformed samples at 190&amp / #730 / C were compared.

Determination Of Residual Stress State In Steel Weldments

Yelbay, Hasan Ilker 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study is to estimate the residual stress state in steel weldments by using Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) technique. For obtaining accurate, fast and continuous residual stress measurements a set up for single pass welded plates was designed and used. In order to convert the MBN values to residual stress values a calibration set up was also designed and a procedure for obtaining calibration curves was developed. After welding of low-C steel plates, residual stresses on heat affected zone (HAZ) and parent metal were measured by MBN technique. The results were verified by the hole drilling method. Microstructural investigation and hardness measurements were also conducted.

Search For Scalar And Tensor Unparticles In The Diphoton Final State In Cms Experiment At The Lhc

Akin, Ilina Vasileva 01 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
We present a search for scalar and tensor unparticles in the diphoton final state produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV, with the CMS detector at LHC. The analysis focuses on the data sample corresponding to the integrated luminosity of 100 pb&amp / #8722 / 1, expected to be collected in the first LHC run. The exclusion limits on unparticle parameters, scaling dimension dU and coupling constant lambda, and the discovery potential for unparticles are presented. This is the first simulation study of the sensitivity to unparticles decaying into the diphoton final state at a hadron collider.
