The Kotychi lagoon is located in the north-west of Peloponnese and constitutes a very significant ecologic heritage not only for the particular area but also for Greece in general. The great ecologic and economic value that characterises the lagoon and the wetland habitat around it has been acknowledged under international treaties (RAMSAR), European programs for the protection of the nature (NATURA 2000) and its bio-diversity while jointly there is an intense interest for its conservation and protection.
In this particular research, the physiochemical parameters that affect the quality of the water of the lagoon were considered, by deranging the balance of the ecosystem having as a purpose to detect the presumable environmental reverberations that have been occurred due to climatic changes that affected the area.
The temperature of the water of the lagoon follows a natural daily fluctuation. The lowest average temperatures of the water are recorded during the winter, whereas the highest average temperatures are recorded during the summer. The specific conductivity of the water shows significant fluctuation which is created by the entry-exit process of the marine and fresh water in the lagoon. The figures of the solution oxygen present a significant daily fluctuation that follows accordingly all the fluctuations of the temperature of the water, also fluctuate in normal rates and they do not alienate the pisci-fauna. The PH rate of the water presents a natural daily fluctuation of a 0.5 rate which is proportional to the temperature and the concentration of the solution oxygen. The water of the lagoon can be characterised as properly clear. The average levels of the chlorophyll for all the duration of the research period have been quite low, which is a case that shows that the lagoon does not show any important problems of eutrophy from photosynthetic organisms.

The majority of marine invertebrates show a positive response to the light source
during the night, a property that we call positive phototropism. A group of samplers
exploit the above property (light trap) has been in use extensively in marine research
in recent decades with very encouraging results. However, despite the many
advantages over traditional display methods for collecting invertebrates in no case has
so far not been used in this dissertation Mesogeio. In this thesis we constructed a light
trap for the operation of which, we programmed the microcontroller MSP430F169.
This work contains 4 chapters. To be more specific, the first chapter refers to the light
trap built and the behavior of fish towards the light so far . The second chapter
describes how the light trap works. The third chapter presents the basic concepts of
microcontrollers and describes the programming of microcontroller MSP430F169
which we used. Finally, the fourth chapter has the program code with which the
MSP430F169 planned and there is a detailed code explanation and an explanation of
the program which was used for its implementation.

Developing conceptual understanding of equality and equation in grade 8 algebra through inquiry based processes featuring the balanceLaw, David 14 January 2016 (has links)
Over a three-week period in March and April 2015, I administered an action research project in a grade eight mathematics class. I addressed a need for comprehension of two term algebraic equations by applying inquiry-based learning practices to a series of lessons, beginning with allowing my students to create actual working balances in the classroom. I utilized these balances to explore depth of knowledge related to solving linear algebraic equations and the basic mathematical concept of equality. Through observations, collection of student work, field notes, and student interviews, I gained knowledge about how students learn the crucial concept of equality and how inquiry impacts their understanding. I synthesized this knowledge by identifying four components or “themes” that are crucial in helping students learn: (1) community and collaboration, (2) time and space to think and discover, (3) connecting hands-on and symbolic learning, and (4) multiple learning pathways. / February 2016

The main goal of this doctoral thesis is to offer for the first time a contemporary edition of the only translation into Spanish of a great work of Italian literature, M. M. Boiardo's Orlando enamorado translated by Francisco Garrido de Villena, an epic-chivalric poem in eight Sicilian octaves first pubished in Valencia in 1555, whose distribution was stopped in that same 16th century, after two more printings, in 1577 and 1581. The edition I present here includes a critical apparatus and the philological annotation of the text, based above all on comparing the Spanish version and the original. This work is accompanied by a study, which covers the results of my investigations about the translator; the characteristics of the translated work; its literary, sociocultural and historic context; its fortune compared with the other exponents of the same period and genre, and other relevant data from the field of textual criticism, such as the description of copies or news about the different printers.

The synthesis and screening of new 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives is growing, due to their various biological activities. In this work, the synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of new derivatives containing a substituted 5-sulfonamide in the 8-hydroxyquinoline or a substituted amino group at the 7-position of the 5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline or 5-chloro-8-methoxyquinoline is reported. The 5-sulfonamide derivatives were prepared by chlorosulfonation followed by the reaction with the appropriate amine. The 7-amino derivatives were synthesized by methylation of the 8-hydroxyquinoline, followed by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction and demethylation. The antimicrobial evaluation was tested by the broth microdilution method. Among all the prepared compounds, 5a (from the 5-sulfonamide series) was the most potent, being active against all the fungal species tested, while also showing important activity against Staphylococcus aureus strains, and low toxicity against VERO cells. This suggests that the introduction of an electron-withdrawing group at para-position of the N-aryl substituent is important for the activity. In addition, the prepared 5a nanoemulsion maintained the antifungal activity of the compound against Candida spp. The 7-amino series has also presented interesting results. In this series, 5i was the most potent compound. This suggests that the hydrophilic heterocyclic substituent at the 7-position was favorable to antifungal activity. The presence of the free hydroxyl at the 8-position is important for the antifungal activity, since the methyl-protected derivatives were poorly active. The 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives 5a and 5i may be considered for further studies in the search for novel antimicrobial agents.
