Vytvoření algoritmu klasifikace vybraných invazivních druhů a lučních společenstev v Krkonoších s využitím hyperspektrálních dat / Development of selected invasive species and meadow vegetation classification algorithm in the Krkonoše Mountains using hyperspectral data

Jelének, Jan January 2013 (has links)
Development of selected invasive species and meadow vegetation classification algorithm in the Krkonoše Mountains using hyperspectral data Abstract The thesis deals with utilization of airbone APEX hyperspectral image data for selected invasive species and meadow vegetation classification in the study area of the Krkonoše Mountains National Park. The mian goal of the thesis was to develop of classification algorithm based on proposed vegetation indices. The approach was based on the utilization of in-situ LAI, fAPAR, chlorophyll content data and analysis of their relation with vegetation spectral properties. The work also deals with several problems regarding LAI - vegetation indices relationship, namely saturation of LAI and mutual correlation of LAI and chlorophyll content. Tha classification was focued on invasive species Rumex alpinus and Lupinus polyphyllus, meadow vegetation with dominant Nardus stricta and dominant Trisetum flavescens and cutted lawns. Besides the proposed approach, the presented work resulted in several classification maps of study area and in spectral libraries, containing ground level spectra of studied invasive species, meadow vegetation types and several other meadow species. Keywords: hyperspectral image data, APEX, LAI, fAPAR, vegetation indices, invasive species, meadow...

Study on the distribution characteristics of the vegetation in high levations in Hoang Lien National park of Vietnam

Kieu, Quoc Lap, Nguyen, Tien Thanh January 2014 (has links)
Hoang Lien National Park has a total area of 68569ha, located at an altitude of above sea 1000-3000m in the territory of the two provinces of Lai Chau and Lao Cai in Vietnam. It has a diversity of flora with 3252 species (including 775 endemic species and 236 endangered species), belonging to 1126 genera, 230 families and 6 different divisions. Due to the mountainous terrain, division diversity of Hoang Lien National Park’s vegetation is thus clearly characterized by high elevations. We have studied the distribution characteristics of the vegetation by high elevations in Hoang Lien National Park of Vietnam by the general survey methodology, fieldwork, remote sensing digital image processing and analysis and inheriting the preceding research results. The study results indicated the divisions in quantity, vegetation composition, especially differentiation of endemic and rare species in accordance with high elevations. Study results were preliminary used to suggest some orientations for preserving plant diversity in high elevations of the terrain. Termite responses to long term burning regimes in southern African savannas : patterns, processes and conservation

Davies, Andrew Byron 21 June 2010 (has links)
Termites are considered to be major ecosystem engineers in tropical and sub-tropical environments, and fire in savanna systems is regarded as a major and necessary disturbance for the maintenance of biodiversity. However, most fire ecology studies have focused on vegetation dynamics with little attention given to other taxa, especially invertebrates. This thesis has addressed several aspects of savanna termite ecology. First, based on a review of studies examining the relationship between fire ecology and termites, I found that few broad conclusions can be made based on the published literature. Hence little is known on the interactions between termites and ecological processes such as fire. Leading on from this, several recommendations are provided in the thesis for future research to improve ecological understanding of savannas and the dynamics that structure these systems. Second, savanna termite responses to long-term burning regimes were investigated across four distinct savanna types along a rainfall gradient in South Africa using comprehensive sampling protocols. This was achieved using experimental burning plots which have been in place in the Kruger National Park (KNP) since 1954 as well as sites in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Termite communities were found to differ significantly between these savannas with higher diversity at Pretoriuskop, a mesic savanna but not the wettest. Termite diversity was lowest at the most arid site (Mopani) but certain feeding groups peaked at Satara, a savanna with intermediate rainfall. Differences between these savannas are attributed to broad underlying changes in net primary productivity, temperature and soil type, with the role of mammalian herbivores also being considered. Seasonality was also examined and it was found that termite activity peaks in the wet and transitional seasons and is significantly lower in the dry season. Considering different fire regimes, termites, in general, were found to be highly resistant to burning, but assemblage composition was affected, this being more pronounced at the mesic savanna where fire has more effect on vegetation. These assemblage changes are linked to changes in vegetation structure caused by fire. Finally, termite ecology is often constrained by sampling difficulties and a lack of sampling protocols in savannas. A comparison of two often used sampling methods, baiting and active searching, was conducted across the savanna types studied. The efficiency of sampling method varied along the rainfall gradient and a single method was not the best for all savanna types. In mesic savannas, active searching (an often neglected sampling method in savannas) was most effective at sampling termite diversity while baiting was more effective in arid savannas, although this method is biased toward wood-feeding termites from feeding group II. Baiting also provides a better measure of termite activity than active searching. I demonstrate that termite communities differ significantly with savanna habitat and their responses to long-term burning regimes differ between these habitat types. Although termite communities were found to be quite resistant to burning, the degree of resistance differed with savanna type and management policies in protected areas and elsewhere need to take this into account when formulating conservation policies. Similarly, sampling methods differ in their efficiency at different sites which needs to be considered when designing sampling protocols in order to accurately reflect the biodiversity present. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Zoology and Entomology / unrestricted

Six Weeks in Belgrade : A Comic Book on Participatory Architecture and Citizen Initiatives in Urban Planning / Sex Veckor i Belgrad : En seriebok om medborgarinitiativ och deltagande i arkitektur och stadsplanering

Kautsky, Matilde, Kedborn, Klara January 2014 (has links)
The project “Six weeks in Belgrade” is a comic book and an exhibition of our research on citizen participation in the planning process in Belgrade, Serbia.   The project discusses how participation can be used to improve the way we plan and build our cities: If, and how, participation can result in a more democratic planning, aiming at a more long-term sustainable and less market-driven urban development. It presents current planning conditions in Belgrade, and current actors and projects in Belgrade. It also introduces a speculative method for a participatory practice through fiction and the visual language of comics. The project maps both formal and informal initiatives in the field of urban planning. The research was done on the basis of interviews, books and articles. By mapping these initiatives we wanted to show their importance, hoping that people will get inspired and involved in the planning and making of the city, and also to strengthen already existing initiatives. The research is presented in the form of a comic narrative, presenting an alternative mode of communicating ideas in architecture and planning. Something which is of specific importance for the development of a participatory practice.

Discoveries made in darkness : Extending the threshold to the Kaknäs tower

Kalmaru, Arvid January 2015 (has links)
This project developed from an idea of light and darkness to a very personal study of architectural interests and fears. It began with a notion that today, in Western cultures especially, the focus on light as being something separate and more desired than darkness may cause an adverse imbalance. I decided to work with a strong physical context that required specificity and to find a program that enabled me to find out more about myself in relation to architecture. SITE: Norra Djurgården, Stockholm, Sweden. The radio- and television tower at the site is 175 meter high and was drawn by Bengt Lindroos and Hans Borgström in the 1960's. In front of the tower there is a big, square shaped parking lot. Designed from strict geometries set by the architects it makes a clear figure viewed in plan, however it lacks definition when experienced on ground level. PROGRAM:There are many places in urban areas with extrovert qualities but not as many where the architecture provides support for introvert excursions. One project goal was to develop a structure that is able to function as a simple background, framing the visitor. A museum is usually anonymous in that sense but then the displayed work makes us focus on something external. As a typology, the labyrinth is perfect for just framing people, but it is also known for evoking anxiety and stress. INTERVENTION:By designing an open-air complex with no dead ends, the project provide the site with a new approach to the tower for pedestrians as well as an enhanced recreational pathway that unite with the existing fabric of paths and walkways.

Interpretace místa - přírodně-krajinářského parku Veltrusy / Interpretation of Place - Landscape Park Veltrusy

Matolínová, Barbora January 2011 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with possibilities of interpretation of landscape park type ornamented farm in Veltrusy castle area in the current context. Park is treated as an artificial place, which function changes in the course of history. The concept of space is used in the sense of meaningful place, which one can understand and be identified with. In the empirical part, we try to reveal the primary structure and characteristic motifs of the park, which are important for the interpretation of its meanings in new historical context, so as to maintain its identity and dynamics. As the text has as many interpretations as readers, so has the park as many interpretations as visitors. Park enters into an ongoing dialogue with its users, but in the changing historical context. The aim of this work is not an effort to create "one holistic" interpretation of the park, but to provide the basis for individual interpretation. In conclusion we consider the possibility to convey the structure and nature of the park to visitors and make them more responsive to the identity of the park and give them the possibility of individual interpretation.
