Playing tag with baggage : RFID technology in baggage handling at Stockholm Skavsta Airport / Den som väntar på sitt bagage behöver inte vänta längre : RFID-teknologi i bagagehantering vid Stockholm Skavsta FlygplatsFlorén, Daniel, Rydh, Joakim January 2005 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this master thesis has been to develop a baggage handling process at Stockholm Skavsta Airport that is cost-efficient, in order to prepare for the expected expansion of the airport. When developing the new process it was a directive to examine the possibilities of using radio frequency identification, RFID, technology and also that the required investment for the new process should have a payback time of no more than two to three years. The current process contains a completely manual sorting activity, which is both costly in terms of personnel and creates some mishandling of baggage due to the human factor. Our recommendation is a baggage handling process that use automatic sorting through RFID technology that eliminates the mishandling of baggage and reduce the personnel costs and at the same time have a payback period of less than three years. The main cost driver is the RFID tag costs and therefore our process is a so called closed-loop system, where the tags are reused several times and require very little work in between uses. The proposed physical layout consists of a drawing of the physical layout of the baggage sorting hall, a description of the RFID system, and the required information system software.</p>

Airports and territory : emergence of a new strategic actor in the air transport systemHorn, Catharina 02 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis deals with the emergence of the airport as a new strategic actor in the air transport system which has undergone profound changes since its liberalisation and within which the airport turned out to be a major player. Considering the airport as an actor in the air transport system, even if it is affected by its environment in a large sense, this work proposes a contribution to current discussion about airport economics. This contribution refers to two levels : an analysis of the European airport business within which the airport emerges as a full player and an analysis of the link between airport strategy and the spatial and territorial context into which the airport is embedded. Based on the differentiation of airport strategies according to the airports' commitment to certain market segments, the analysis of the spatial and territorial context into which the airports are embedded showed its influence on the development of airports but confirmed also that the latter is not automatic but subject to the dynamics arising from the interactions between the different actors. The emergence of the airport as a new strategic player in the air transport system places the emphasis on the complex relation between airport and territory which is reflected in a number of issues connected with the airport activity

Passenger Information at Stockholm-Arlanda AirportKushwaha, Oskar January 2021 (has links)
Technology and the latest modern infrastructure have uplifted airports worldwide, creating them to be mini-town of their own consisting of all necessary resources from airport ground handling firms, airlines, different government entities, retails, and commercial spaces. The performance of an airport depends on several factors in which passengers are the most crucial resource. There exists no comprehensive, detailed information on passengers' travel at Stockholm- Arlanda Airport. The paper describes the agenda of passenger movements. It reflects on the issues and depreciation of passenger knowledge when transiting through Nordic busiest airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The paper commences with an introduction to a brief, relevant literature study on airport infrastructure technology. Methodology briefs on methods conducted for this study, and consequently is the result presented and discussed from the surveys. Research result compromise of primary interviews from actual passenger transiting through Stockholm- Arlanda Airport. According to the research, the most navigational issues could not be concretely derived due to an on-going pandemic that had several impacts to execute this research detailed. Mainly the drastic impact on the aviation industry during this period affected the result of this paper. This paper needs further examination during no uncertainty in the aviation industry to further develop a tangible result.

From airport to future : A study about the qualifications of the implementations of the proposals for Bromma airport / Från flygplats till framtid : En studie om förutsättningarna för genomförandet av förslag till Bromma FlygplatsLinnea, Maurin, Alice, Malmqvist January 2024 (has links)
The subject of decommissioning Bromma airport has been discussed throughout several years where politicians from all of Swedens political parties has valued the airport differently. The reduced number of flights following the Covid-19-pandemic and the current housing shortage in Stockholm have acted as arguments against preserving the airport. In February of 2024 came the directive that the contract between the airports owner Swedavia and the landowner Stockholms stad wouldn´t be renewed and would instead come to a close year 2038. The decision has made Bromma airports future an increasingly relevant topic of discussion and has led to the development of several proposals for what the area could evolve into. While the disassembly of the airport is currently being considered could external circumstances justify keeping the airport. The purpose of the study has been to examine the circumstances around developing Bromma airport based on three proposals from the political party Miljöpartiet, government owned company Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA), and landscape architects Urbio. The study has taken different parties’ interests and sustainability in consideration. Earlier transformations from airports to alternative exploitation investigates to further support the study in Bromma airports circumstances. The studies methods have consisted of qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews with relevant parties and document-studies. The study’s results show that the housing shortage has been a recurring argument motivating the disassembly of the airport. Replacing the establishment with residence units is something that both Miljöpartiet and BRA urges. BRA does however claim that parts of the airport should remain to accommodate future electrical airplanes. Urbio asserts that the absence of a greater park in Stockholm’s northwest suburbs motivates a disassembly, who instead wish to construct a landscape park. All of the proposals take sustainability in consideration in which different aspects were prioritized depending on the proposal. They altogether consider economic sustainability through housing and premises for businesses, social sustainability through alternating buildings and meeting places, and ecological sustainability through carbon sinks, energy effective constructions and planting of tree groves. The study also shows that there are common factors between the previous transformations of airports. A migration of the airports flight operations and a consistent dialogue with citizens were central themes across all cases. It could potentially be relevant subjects for Bromma airports eventual development.

Implementation of A-CDM - A pilot study at Bromma Airport / Implementering av A-CDM - En förstudie åt Bromma flygplatsSkoglund, Daniel January 2016 (has links)

MODELING AVIATION FACILITIES IMPACT ON RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY VALUES.AL-KHABBAZ, AHMAD ABDALLA. January 1987 (has links)
The purpose was to evaluate airport impact on nearby residential property values (RPV). The hypothesis was that a relationship between noise levels, and nearby RPV could be identified and quantified. The objective was to model a relationship between housing location with respect to an airport and housing value, taking into consideration other relevant factors. Evaluation of aviation facilities impact on RPV was based on a sample of 587 single-family houses sold during 1984 and 1985. Selling price was used as the dependent variable. Independent variables included physical characteristics of a house, distance to the closest airport, accessibility of a house to the urban area, and supply and demand for houses. Distance to nearest airport was used as a surrogate for aircraft noise level. Study indicated that impact of aviation facilities on RPV could be quantified using selling price of a house as the dependent variable and distance from an airport as a primary independent variable along with physical characteristics of a house. Effect of an airport on RPV appears dependent not only on distance, but also on type of airport and selling price of a house. Davis-Monthan Airport (DM), a military airport, has a significantly greater impact than Tucson International Airport (TIA), a commercial airport. DM impact was greatest on houses priced above sample median. However, lower priced houses were effected more when the impact was expressed as a percent of selling price. DM impact area was approximately 2 miles from the airport, while TIA impact was about 1 mile from the facility. Distance from DM was the most significant variable in describing variation in selling price for houses closest to this facility. Living area of a house was also a very significant variable. Distance to TIA was not very significant in evaluating selling price variation. Living area and age of a house were generally the most significant variables describing selling price variation for TIA subset.
