Rätten till reproduktiva rättigheter

Jonsson, Miranda, Riiga, Aksel January 2024 (has links)
Abortion policy differs greatly in the countries of the world. Some countries are moving towards a more restrictive abortion policy, whereas other countries are more allowing and stipulate the right to abortion in their constitution. The question of abortion policy is constantly important and brings large effects on both individuals and society. The aim of the study is to explain determinants abortion policy and what determinants are responsible for moving a country from restrictive to permissive abortion policy. Earlier studies tell us that economy, culture, and equality are factors that influence abortion policy in a country, but that the field of study is largely unexplored. We use a multiple regression analysis of panel data of 194 countries during the years 2011-2022. The study shows that abortion policy and changes toward permissive abortion policy depend positively on GDP per capita, women’s representation in political parliament and higher education. Abortion policy also depends negatively on the percentage of Catholics and Muslims in the population, as well as the income distribution. The study shows significant results for all determinants in all models excluding one, and the result confirms our hypothesises. The study can be used as a base for policy and more research is still needed on the subject.

A study to determine the efficiency of the differential test for infectious abortion of cattle

Davis, Charles Robert January 1930 (has links)
Chart No. 1 shows that during this study the agglutination titre of only two cows changed to any extent. Of these two cows the titre changed from a slight reaction in low dilution to a high reaction in high dilutions. However, both gave birth to normal, healthy calves, one in February, the other in March. Cows No. 22, 28 and 309 were sold because they were sterile. Cows No. 220 and 251 were sold because on differential test they were classified as infected with Brucella abortus, and they were from the beef herd where no isolation is practiced. Cow No. 7 died of unknown cause, No. 30 died of peritonitis, and No. 42 died of tumors. Chart No. 2 shows that the reactions to the differential test remained practically the same in all the cows except numbers 68 and 76. Their differential agglutination titres rose correspondingly with their agglutination titres. Isolation of Brucella abortus was tried from each cow, provided proper samples could be had. Isolation from foetuses was possible in only three cases, as only three cows aborted during this study. Cow No. 21 aborted twin calves on August 23, 1929. Isolation attempts from the foetuses were negative as were the uterus and milk examinations. This abortion was not due to Brucella abortus. Heifer No. 315 aborted a six weeks old calf on November 24, 1929. Uterus and foetus examinations for Brucella abortus were negative. This heifer had never lactated so milk examinations were impossible. The cause of abortion was undetermined. Isolation of brucella abortus was attempted from each cow until the organism was isolated unless the cow stopped lactating, but no more than three attempts were made on any cow. By comparison of charts No. 1, 2, and 3, it can easily be seen that the isolation of Brucella abortus with one exception, cow No. 16, was from cows that gave high agglutination titre reactions, and in all cases from cows that gave infected reactions to the differential test. Records of isolation of Brucella abortus indicate that 14 out of 23 infected reactors to the differential test are known carriers of Brucella abortus. Repeated isolation tests were run on the other nine when proper material could be obtained. In no case was Brucella abortus isolated from the non-infected reactors to the differential test. / M.S.

The Pre- and Post-Abortion Process for Couples: A Qualitative Research Perspective

McCray, Nancy Lynne 08 1900 (has links)
This study utilized a qualitative research methodology to examine the perspectives of six subjects, three married couples, choosing abortion to terminate unwanted pregnancies. The subjects were interviewed a few days after the abortion and six weeks after the abortion for a total of 12 hours. The researcher transcribed the interviews and observer's comments written throughout the interview process. The data were qualitatively analyzed to gain an understanding of (a) the factors which contributed to the unwanted pregnancies; (b) the process by which the couples Chose abortion to terminate the unwanted pregancies, (c) factors which contributed to the decision; (d) factors surrounding the abortion procedure; and (e) factors which predisposed the couples to different kinds of post-abortion reactions. This analysis indicated that inconsistent birth control usage was but one factor in the unwanted pregnancy. decision to abort the unwanted pregnancy created relationship conflicts because each subject had different ideas and needs in regard to managing the unwanted pregnancy. Although all of the subjects expressed relief after the abortion procedure was completed, they also expressed feelings such as guilt, sadness, and a sense of loss. All of the couples in the study experienced relationship stress, and discussed relationship issues in the interviews. More concern was verbalized about the relationship than the abortion for the couples in the study. Two of the couples expressed a commitment to making personal changes to improve the marital relationship. For the married couples in this study, the decision to terminate the unwanted pregnancy and abortion mirrored the decision-making and conflict resolution process utilized by the couples in other situations.

A Study of Movement and Countermovement Organizations in the Abortion Movement

Lawrence, Marsha A. 08 1900 (has links)
This study begins to fill the gap in sociological literature on movements and countermovements by exploring the dynamic environment of two movement organizations. After documenting the climate of public opinion on abortion, it investigates the strategy and tactics employed by a movement to maintain that opinion and a countermovement to reverse that opinion. It relates social movements to their social environments, social change, opposition, and strategy and tactics. It illustrates the efficacy of single-issue groups in the American social and political environment. Finally, this thesis demonstrates the validity of exploratory studies by uncovering elements of social movements and countermovements that had not been previously investigated.

Antibiotikaprofylax vid kirurgisk abort : En litteraturöversikt

Vaccarezza, Francesco, Bravo, Marcela January 2019 (has links)
ABSTRACT Background: Abortion is a recurring phenomenon; the total number of performed procedures varies greatly around the world. The statistics show that about one in five pregnancies is terminated. It is reported that infections of different degree will occur with induced abortion. Purpose: The purpose of this review is to study the frequency of postoperative infections and the usefulness of antibiotic prophylaxis when surgical abortion is performed. Methods: The literature review is based on 16 original scientific articles of randomized controlled trials in quantitative studies. The articles were analysed, reported, reviewed and merged into this study result. Results: The most common post-operative infections after surgical abortion were chlamydia, gonorrhoea and bacterial vaginosis, which averaged to 9,2 %. Doxycycline proved to be the best cost-effective and prophylactic treatment in comparison to other antibiotic drugs included in the studies. Conclusion: This review confirms the results of earlier research showing that antibiotic prophylaxis can possibly reduce the number of postoperative infections.   Keywords: abortion, abortion induced, antibiotic prophylaxis, infection.

Abortion has become a common practice in modern China since the implementation of birth limitation policy in the 1950s. In recent decades, the growing prevalence of abortion among young unmarried migrant workers has aroused public concern. Socially, abortion among this group of young women is often seen as a reproductive health problem or anomalous phenomenon that needs to be managed and handled; at the individual level, abortion is singled out as a behavioural misconduct of young women, which signifies their moral failure. However, these indiscreet and injudicious perceptions fail to acknowledge the complexity and structural dynamics behind their choices. While past studies have examined abortion through perspectives including law, morality, policy and reproductive health, or analyzed its impact on macro politics and institutions at a societal level, few of them have looked into the authentic experiences of these women and examined the whole issue from the perspective of interpersonal and gender dynamics. To fill the gap of knowledge, the present study aims at comprehending this distinctive life event of women and reflecting women’s agency. Through conducting intensive ethnographic observation and in-depth interviews with 20 unmarried female migrant workers aged from 17 to 28 years old with diverse background, the underlining forces behind the occurrence of abortion are revealed, such as the influence of state family planning policy, the complex changes of lifestyle under market reform, and the heavy influence of partners and families on the decisions concerning marriage and childbirth. This study also traces the process within which abortion decisions are made, from sexual contacts, contraceptive uses, abortion decision-making,to the negotiation between partners, depicting women’s responses to structural constraints and how their choices are made under the influence of migration. / Lai, Yuen Shan. / Thesis M.Phil. "The most dangerous place" : race, neoliberalism, and anti-abortion discourses / Race, neoliberalism, and anti-abortion discourses

Briggs, Katherine Charek 28 June 2012 (has links)
Crisis pregnancy center advertisements like billboards that ask whether a downcast woman of color is "Pregnant? Scared?" appear to be a locus of the overlapping factors of United States racial politics, bodily control, and a neoliberal sensibility. In order to investigate these relationships, I situate analyses of anti-abortion media products alongside current U.S. political discourses. What is the relationship between the elements of racism and bodily control in CPC visual rhetoric and growing neoliberal culture? This project brings these factors into a dialogue by analyzing the anti-abortion rhetoric shaped by CPC organizations and the white U.S. mainstream. As I discuss in Chapter One, anti-abortion organizations target specific communities and use large-scale media advertising to retain disproportionate control over the image of abortion in the U.S. cultural imaginary. The second chapter details how that imaginary and the current political situation overlap in immigration, population, and border panic that reduces Latinas to sexualized stereotypes. In Chapter Three, I report on the U.S. medical and political systems' shameful oppression of black women's reproductive freedom in order to situate the advertising rhetoric of three more anti-abortion organizations. The discourses these groups perpetrate are all reflected in the moral individualism of a growing neoliberal social politic. In sum, anti-abortion organizations use neoliberal rhetoric and racialized advertising to perpetuate destructive discourses of what it means to be a person of color in reproductive crisis. These discourses approach race with entrenched stereotypes, paternalistic moralizing, and euphemistic concern for low-income people of color. A critical feminist lens helps draw serious attention to dangerous patterns in anti-abortion rhetoric and the politics of race and reproductive justice. / text

墮胎合乎道德嗎?-由湯姆森觀點論之 / The Abortion Controversy: On Thomson’s Defense of Abortion

邱娜瑩 Unknown Date (has links)
The moral debate on abortion has been a hot issue in Ethics. In 1971, American philosopher Judith Javis Thomson launched her famous thesis ‘A Defense of Abortion’ in which she argued against anti-abortionists. By the violinist thought experiment, she began with women’s bodily autonomy as her basic argument and claimed that abortion is not morally impermissible. My thesis here studied Thomson’s view on abortion and discussed the critics that ‘A Defense of Abortion’ evoked. Furthermore, I try to fight back those critics and defense for “A Defense of Abortion.” Finally, this thesis agrees Thomson’s claim: Abortion is not morally impermissible, and suggest that we should fairly examine the debate on abortion.
