EFFECTS OF FATHER ABSENCE ON AGE OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY AND CURRENT STRESS AND ATTACHMENT LEVELS OF YOUNG ADULT WOMEN

Glenn, Stephanie 01 January 2018 (has links)
This study bridges the gap in literature about the impact of father absence on female adult attachment and current stress levels. A sample of 666 female college students between the ages of 18 and 22 at the University of Kentucky was recruited to complete an online survey about their experience with their fathers and the effects on their attachment and stress levels, while assessing the age of their first sexual experience. Father absence seems to be a significant predictor of earlier sexual activity among females and anxious attachment styles, along with higher stress levels. When the father is absent from the home, females have sex earlier than when the father is present in the home. Females who experience father absence have higher anxious attachment levels and higher current stress levels. These findings inform therapists about the importance of recognizing attachment injuries when dealing with individuals and supports the need for mother and father involvement in a female’s life.

Nudge Theory's Perceived Influence on FMLA Among Midwestern Metropolitan Nonprofit Arts Organizations

Gordner, Eliza 01 January 2019 (has links)
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has had significant influence on both for-profit and nonprofit employers since it was enacted in 1993. Because nonprofit organizations often have more limited resources than for-profit organizations, implementing family and medical leave policy mandates can be problematic. Arts-related nonprofit organizations often have even fewer resources available yet must still ensure legal compliance and market competitiveness while continuing to focus on meeting their missions. Even if a smaller nonprofit organization is not subject to the FMLA, it is subject to other federal, state, and local employment laws, and the organization must decide whether to offer unpaid or paid family and medical leave, perhaps styled after the FMLA. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand how those who conduct human resource functions in nonprofit arts organizations would perceive governmental prompting toward providing FMLA and paid leave in relation to their ability to meet their missions. This question was explored through the lens of nudge theory and involved interviews with nine HR professionals from nonprofit arts organizations. Data were analyzed using Bazeley and Jackson's bucket coding and Yin's explanation building processes. The results of the study indicated that HR professionals perceived little to no effects of the FMLA on their nonprofit arts organizations' ability to meet their missions. The social change implications of this study involve providing insights to policymakers that could inform decisions about family and medical leave mandates or nudges toward a desired outcome regarding these leaves of absence in the nonprofit sector.

Experiences of families towards psychiatric state patients during leave of absence in Lepelle Nkumpi, Capricorn District of Limpopo Province

Mathanya, Moloko Elizabeth January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (M.Cur.) -- University of Limpopo, 2015 / The purpose of the study was to investigate the experiences of families towards psychiatric state patients during LOA. A qualitative, phenomenological, exploratory, descriptive and contextual design was used. Non-probability sampling of the purposive type was used to explore and describe the experiences of families towards psychiatric state patients during LOA. Data were collected from ten (10) families by using semi-structured face-to-face interviews. Data were audio recorded and field notes were also written. Trustworthiness was ensured by applying credibility, transferability, confirmability and dependability. Transferability was ensured by utilizing purposive sampling to include participants. Confirmability was ensured by collecting data from the participants who have experience on the problem studied. Data were analysed qualitatively by using Tech’s open coding method. Results from the study shows that families experiences uncontrolled and disruptive behaviour from the psychiatric state patients during LOA. Guidelines for the study include: Families of psychiatric state patients should receive counselling and be involved in family therapy prior and after the psychiatric state patient’s LOA. Family members of psychiatric state patient experience emotional pain, therefore they need support from multidisciplinary team members to assist them to facilitate promotion, maintenance and restoration of their mental health as an integral part of their health. Recommendations include improvement of aspects in nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research. Key words: Experiences, family, psychiatric state patients, Leave of absence. DEFINITION

in|form: the performative object: the exploration of body, motion and form

Newrick, Tiffany Rewa January 2008 (has links)
Through the sculptural object, this thesis, in|form: The per formative object, explores the relationships between body and object, viewer and artist, performance and the per formative. By exploring the performativity of an object (and questioning how an object performs in relation to the body), the documented performances activate an inter-relational act between artist and object (I perform the object, the object performs me simultaneously). The work that unfolds from this investigation considers the placement of the viewer’s body in relation to the artist’s. A dialogue is formed between the three bodies: object, artist and viewer, creating a sense of embodiment within the work through this relationship. in|form explores this embodiment through the role of video documentation. The performances are constructed to be viewed solely through the documentation, which creates a discussion between the ‘live’ moment and the documented event, and how the viewer then relates to this. The performances take place as solo acts, but are constructed with the viewer in mind. As the viewer watches the documented performance of the action between artist and object in space, the relational nature of the work creates a second performance which embodies the viewer. This sole action, recorded and then viewed, considers the relational value of the body, specifically engaging with the abstraction of bodily formlessness within the object to reveal a bodily nature. Using the object to trace the movement of the body creates a language that communicates to, and about, both viewer and artist: through the awareness of passing time, through the large scale projection of the documentation, through the bodily nature of the object, and through the performativity of the object’s responsive nature to the artist’s body as the pair navigate through space. in|form explores how the absence of the body (in a literal sense) considers the body as an object bound by time, at once physical yet transient. By tracing the motion of the body through object, the viewer experiences the body through sensibility. Ultimately, the function of the body negotiating as a time-bound object is imitated through the performativity of the object with artist, and the elusiveness of this action emphasized by its documentation.

Det slutna rummet : En studie av högstadieelevers upplevelser, erfarenheter och känslor i idrottens omklädningsrum

Stenebo, Maria, Rosenqvist, Maria January 2010 (has links)
<p>This study concerns the experiences and feelings students in intermediate school gain from the changing room to sports class. It is a qualitative study with a socio-cultural approach, which has been analysed in a hermeneutic way. The students’ voices have been heard through interviews and questionnaires, and furthermore, to get a broader perspective, adults working in school, have also been interviewed. The study shows that many children feel discomfort without clothes in the changing room, furthermore that the absence of adults in this room may add to exercise of power amongst the student, like abuse, direct- and indirect threats or to exclude someone from the group. As a result, this could lead to consequences like students absence from school, lies and feelings of guilt. It could also influence other subjects in school if the absence is high or if the student has difficulties in concentrating in other subjects due to anxiety. The study also shows how important it is for all adults present in school to be observant and sensitive to what students say or to how they react in different situations since bullying and abuse is hard to talk about.</p>

Närvaro och frånvaro : en studie om elevers tankar runt skolk

Holmlöv Sarri, Anna January 2007 (has links)
<p>Truancy is a problem in the Swedish schools today, just as well as in other European and other developed countries where educataion is gratuitous. Teachers all over Sweden go to classes with a clear and well-planned schedule for the day. But some are unable to do their work because of asent students. In this study I have chosen to focus on the perspective of the youths and the main question is: how do students discuss and think about truancy. During the study I have chosen a qualitative approach and have therefore done observation in various classes in a Swedish senior high school in a suburb outside Stockholm during twelve weeks. I have also done twelve interviews with the same number of students, six girls and six boys. The age ranges from 16 to 19 with two students from each grade. The result of the study is that some of the students are indiffirent when it comes to school. They just do not care about attending school all the lessons and all the days. Some of the students are absent when they feel they have lack of time in the prospect of a big examination. But the most astonishing statement from all the twelve students is that they state that their parents mean that the education is the student own responsibility.</p>

The Absence of Culture?

Norberg, Magnus, Jomer, Mikael January 2007 (has links)
<p>This thesis attempts to investigate if national culture still is a factor to consider for large multinational organizations when choosing a supplier, or if the global business environment due to globalization has become so standardized and homogenous that the influence of national culture differences has diminished. Existing academic literature is divided regarding this matter; some studies indicate that the influence of national culture on business relations is subtle while other argues that national culture differences may be a source for potential barriers and problems and therefore still an important factor to consider. The issue of globalization has also divided researchers, some argue that globalization has made it possible for a homogenous business culture to emerge while other argue that globalization is a myth and ‘global companies’ are in reality regional. Empirical information was collected through interviews at head offices from four large Swedish multinational companies and questions were asked to determine the importance of national culture when choosing a supplier, the influence national culture has on organizational culture and to what extent a homogenous business culture has emerged. The study’s findings identified little evidence to support the idea that cultural difference is a significant factor to consider when conducting business relations. None or very little consideration to national cultural differences was paid when choosing a supplier. However, consideration was sometimes taken to organizational culture, which findings indicate is partly influenced by national culture. The interviewed organizations were of the opinion that at high management level a ‘global culture’ has emerged, and therefore the ‘way of doing business’ has become more uniform. The conclusion, which turned into more of a tendency indication, made from this thesis were that although national cultural differences still exist and probably will do so for some time, the influence it has on ‘business-to-business’ relations between multinational organizations at high management levels has diminished due to the emergence of a more homogenous global business culture.</p>
