Doppelgänger ve španělské povídkové tvorbě / Doppelgänger in spanish short storiesKroupová, Alžběta January 2017 (has links)
(in English) The topic of this master thesis is a character of the double in Spanish short stories focused on 20th century. Firstly, we describe the historical context of this literary theme and we observe its changing through the time, its transition from a tragic tone to absurdity or a comic tone. The aim of this work is to observe Freud's concept of "unheimlich" feeling applied to the topic of the double and to investigate what literary tools can intensify this feeling in the reader. After this, we focus on repeating motives in selected short stories and we contemplate constituent aspects of this topic in the context of humanities.

Douglas Adams : analysing the absurdVan der Colff, Margaretha Aletta 21 August 2008 (has links)
This research emerges from an observation that Douglas Adams’s Hitch Hiker Series is not merely characterised by light-hearted comedy, but is underpinned by intricate philosophical ideas, especially those of twentieth century Existentialism and the related notion of absurdity. The study also investigates the interlaced functions of Adams’s fantasy and landscapes of alterity. Paradoxically, Adams’s fantastical creatures serve to illuminate the human condition and the follies and monstrosities that lurk at the heart of humanity. Not only does Adams’s fantasy mirror the maladies of twentieth century society, thus serving a satirical function, but it is also a mechanism for constructing meaning in the shape of alternative realities. Concepts related to alterity, such as simulation (Baudrillard), the structure of ‘reality’, dreaming (Descartes) and parallel universes are investigated as building blocks of Adams’s fantastic story space. Furthermore, the ideas of Sartre, Camus and other originators of Existentialism, a philosophy which considers the futility of existence and the compulsion to construct subjective meaning, are elucidated and explored in relation to Adams’s work. Existentialist concepts such as facticity and angst, as well as the Beckettian universe and the Theatre of the Absurd, are also discussed in the light of the Hitch Hiker series. Adams’s extensive satirical comment is also emphasised in this study. Adams’s satire does not merely castigate the evils of twentieth century society such as capitalism and bureaucracy, it also unmasks universal human vices such as pomposity and grandiosity, vices that are rooted in the rejection of objective morality. Although Adams comments on the folly at the heart of society, he also presents the reader with an alternative: the subjective reconstruction of one’s inner world in an attempt to spin individual webs of meaning from the nothingness at the world’s core. This study also investigates the ambiguous concept of madness as a subjective reality born of the necessity to construct meaning, and analyses Adams’s alternative landscapes based on the suggestion that ‘much madness is divinest sense’ (Emily Dickenson, in Ferguson et al., 1996: 1015). / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / English / MA / unrestricted

Domenico Scarlatti – eine FlaschenpostMenke, Johannes 22 September 2023 (has links)
This article attempts to apply some of Gilles Deleuze’s concepts and ways of thinking to the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. Thus “deterritorializing” (Deterritorialisierung) will be applied to Scarlatti’s approach to keys, and “event” (Ereignis) and “surface” (Oberfläche) will be applied to motive and form. Finally, Scarlatti’s sonatas may be described as aphorisms in which the boundaries of standard logic are exceeded and even the right to absurdity is claimed.

En essä om ett absurt resonemang- : och om (o)möjligheten att utforska barns världar / An essay on an absurd reasoning- : and the (im)possibility of exploring children ́s worlds.ihse, linda January 2023 (has links)
This essay delves into the question of whether the desire to understand children in their thought process can lead adults into interpret children ́s thoughts through their own worldview. It explores the idea whether it is futile to believe in the possibility of fully understanding and if we could benefit by surrender that notion. Inspired by Camus ́essay The myth of Sisyfos and Nagel ́s exploration of the subjective nature of experience in What is it like to be a bat? this essay grapples with the concept of absurdity and the question if Camus and Nagels ideas of absurdity can be helpful for adults in their challenge to grasp a child ́s perspective. Through an exploration of absurdity and a critical examination of adult’s belief in their ability to understand children, specifically concept such as child’s perspective in childhood sociology, this essay aims to shed light on the complex relationship between children and, adults emphasizing the importance of humility and recognizing the inherent limitations of whether a human being fully can understand another human being regardless age. Furthermore, the children ́s book Gropen is used to make visible the ideas about how the realities of children and adults are expressed.

Previous issue date: 2013-06-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This master's thesis represents the search for a narrative. We aim to demonstrate that there is a story behind a set of apparently unrelated stories and that what bundles these stories is not only the symbolic description or records of an important period of the history of Brazil, but also, despite its incipient literary load, the path a man must necessarily follow in order to accomplish his journey under the absurdity of the world. When we think about writing and surviving in Cartas da prisão [Letters from prison], by Frei Betto, we try to identify, in this tug-‐of-‐war, in what measure would there be a movement of dynamic balance of the origin of the author in the denial of death. For the high degree of subjectivity we aim for here, Roland Barthes' concept of Neutral has proved to be an efficient methodology, having provided us with the attribute of the impasse and, therefore, the right to news paths, the access to surprising answers and, above all, a sparkling creative-‐critical-‐aesthetic experience, to use an expression of Barthes himself. The lucidity that ties Sisyphus to his destiny under the huge rock of his condemnation or Camus to his human rebellion in face of the race condemnation is of the same order of the one that connects Betto to literature and which represents his only real possibility of achieving true freedom: through consciousness / A

An Examination of Martin Esslin's Concept of the Absurdist Theatre as an Expression of Camus' Concept of Absurdity Set Forth in "The Myth of Sisyphus"Turney, Sandra Page 05 1900 (has links)
This work is an effort to investigate the relationship between Albert Camus' philosophic concepts of the absurd presented in "The Myth of Sisyphus" and the Absurdist Theatre as defined by Martin Esslin. Included in this thesis is a discussion of each of the above concepts. Focus is placed upon the characteristics of the Absurdist Theatre which constitute the basis for the label "Absurdity." The conclusion indicates that while the playwright's personal experiences and philosophies correspond to Camus', their plays fail to communicate or express that concept of absurdity satisfactorily. The major emphasis is on the lack of concrete reality used to communicate a concept based upon concrete reality.
