Le réchauffement climatique a des conséquences sur la phénologie, les aires de répartition et la taille des organismes. Cependant, les processus physiologiques sous-jacents à ces phénomènes restent peu connus. Les ectothermes dont le métabolisme est positivement corrélé à la température pourraient montrer, sous réchauffement climatique, une production accrue d'espèces réactives de l'oxygène (ERO). Ces ERO ont été depuis quelques décennies définis comme l'un des mécanismes physiologiques sous-jacents aux stratégies d'histoire de vie. Dans cette thèse, nous avons exploré la physiologie oxydative de poissons dans des contextes thermiques variés et ses conséquences sur la gestion des traits d'histoire de vie. Nos approches expérimentales et de terrains menées sur Oryzias latipes, Perca fluviatilis & Rutilus rutilus, nous ont permis de montrer ces liens. Ces résultats sont à compléter, notamment sur le terrain où de nombreux effets confondants ont rendu les conclusions difficiles. / Global warming affects the phenology, range and body-sizes of species. However, the underlying physiological processes remain poorly understood. Ectothermic organisms, whose metabolism is positively correlated with temperature, would show an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production under global warming. These ROS have been proposed to be one of the physiological triggers of the life history strategies. In this thesis, we explored the oxidative physiology of fish in different warming contexts and their effects on life-history traits. Our experimental and field approaches on Oryzias latipes, Perca fluviatilis & Rutilus rutilus, allowed us highlight these links. However, further studies are necessary, especially in natura where many confounding effects have made conclusions difficult.

Comportamento anatômico, fisiológico e agronômico do milho (Zea mays L.) submetido a estresses de ambiente em diferentes estádios fenológicos / Anatomical, physiological, and agronomical behaviour of maize (Zea mays L.) submited at environment stresses in different phenology stages

Com o objetivo de avaliar o comportamento agronômico, fisiológico, bem como as características anatômicas e morfológicas do milho submetido a estresses por água e luz de forma isolada e conjunta, entre os estádios de desenvolvimento V2 – V5, V6 – V9 e V10 – V13, foi realizado o presente experimento, na área experimental do Depatamento de Produção Vegetal da ESALQ/USP, no município de Piracicaba, Estado de São Paulo, no ano agrícola de 2005/2006. O delineamento experimental adotado foi o de blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 3 x 3 + 1, contendo 10 tratamentos e 3 repetições. As parcelas foram compostas por 4 linhas de milho espaçadas 0,7 m entre si com 5 m de comprimento. As avaliações anatômicas foram compostas por: características organográficas das estruturas do colmo; número de estômatos; espessura da epiderme superior e inferior; diâmetro das bainhas do feixe vascular (µm); distância entre as bainhas do feixe vascular diâmetro dos elementos de vasos (µm); diâmetro dos vasos crivados (µm); distância entre as linhas de células buliformes; tamanho das linhas de células buliformes e espessura do mesofilo (µm). As análises fisiológicas foram compostas pela determinação da taxa de assimilação de dióxido de carbono e respiração de escuro. As análises agronômicas realizadas foram: produtividade; componentes de produção (número de espigas por planta, número de fileiras de grãos por espiga e número de grãos por fileira); potencial produtivo; altura de plantas; diâmetro do colmo; índice de área foliar e número de folhas por planta. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que os estresses por água e luz aplicados concomitantemente são os mais prejudiciais para todas as características analisadas, seguido do estresse hídrico isoladamente e do estresse por luz. Ainda, no que se refere às épocas de estresse, foi possível concluir que, para a produtividade de grãos, quanto mais avançado o estádio de desenvolvimento de ocorrência do estresse, maiores são as perdas de produtividade. As outras características agronômicas como altura de plantas, diâmetro do colmo e índice de área foliar foram mais prejudicadas pela ocorrência dos fatores de estresse aplicados entre os estádios V6 e V9. As análises fisiológicas demonstraram que a cultura do milho submetida a estresses por água e luz, apresenta um comprometimento irreversível das suas funções fisiológicas, não conseguindo voltar ao nível metabólico normal apresentado antes da ocorrência dos estresses. Quanto aos caracteres morfológicos externos e internos estudados foi possível observar um acúmulo de lignina nos colmos de milho nos tratamentos relacionados aos estresses hídricos, além do aumento na quantidade de estômatos nas folhas do milho pela ocorrência dos fatores de estresse estudados. As demais características morfológicas avaliadas não foram influenciadas pelos fatores de estresse e épocas de ocorrência de estresses estudados. / With the aim of studying the agronomical and physiological behavior and the anatomical characteristics of the corn referred to the stress for water, light and the two comcomitant, among the stages of development V2 – V5, V6 – V9 and V10 – V13, the present was made at experimental area of ESALQ/USP, in Piracicaba, São Paulo State, during the 2005/2006 season. The plots were composed by four lines of corn interrupted 0,7 m among themselves with 5 m of length. The anatomical available were composed by characteristics of the structure of thatch; number of stomaches; thickness of superior and inferior epidermis; diameter of the vascular bundle sheath (µm); distance among vascular bundle (µm); vessel diameter (µm); sieve tube diameter; distance among buliforms cells lines; buliforms cells lines size; and thickness of mesophyll (µm). The physiological analyses were composed by determination of the rate assimilation of carbon dioxide and respiration. The agronomical analysis done were: productivity; components of production (number of ears by plant, number of files of grain by ears and number of grains by files); productive potencial; height of the plants; diameter of the thatch; leaf index area and number of leaves by plants. The results obtained allow to conclude the stress by water and light applied together are the most harmful for all the analysed characteristics, followed by the water stress isolatedly of the stress, it was possible to conclude that, to the productivity if the stage of development of the plant is advanced, the lost of productivity are greater. The other agronomical characteristics as the height of the plants, diameter of the thatch, leaf index area and safe keeping were more harmful by the occurrence of the stress factors applied between V6 and V9 stages. The physiological analyses showed that the corn crop suffers an irreversible compromise of its physiological functions. As the anatomical and morphological characteristics studied it was possible to observe an accumulation of lignin in the thatch of corn in the treatments that involved the water stress and increase at the quantity of stomaches in the leaves of the corn by the factors of studied stress and the other anatomical and morphological available characteristics non influenced by the factors of stress and time of the studied occurrence.

Recent years have seen a growth in the Brazilian production of strawberries, however, the participation of Brazil in world production is still low.Aiming to increase production and improve the quality of fruits produced alternatives have been sought, such as better adapted cultivars to the production regions and best seedlings.Considering that the plant tissue culture can be a technique for improvements in this production system, the work was developed aiming to assess the conditions of seed germination of strawberry cv. Camiño Real and to establish protocols for regeneration through organogenesis, to the genetic lineages derived from cultivars Camiño Real and Festival.To assess the conditions of germination, it was used fresh seeds and stored for 2 and 12 months. These were submitted to different treatments of break dormancy and the presence or absence of light during germination. Based on the evaluations of germination rate and fresh weight of the plants obtained, it was concluded that the seed storage significantly reduces the viability thereof, for fresh seeds the treatments of scarification with sandpaper commercial and with sulfuric acid and commercial presented the best results.It was also concluded that the strawberry seeds showed positive photoblastic behavior. For regeneration through organogenesis of genetic lineages obtained from seeds it was used leaf and petiole explants conditioned in culture medium supplemented with different concentrations of growth regulators.The variables evaluated were: percentage of explants with calluses, with buds and shoots, number of buds and shoots per explants, percentage of rooted plants, fresh weight of plants and percentage of plant survival after acclimatization. Through these assessments it was possible to conclude that the leaf explants showed better results for the genotypes tested. The growth regulators recommended are TDZ and AIB, at concentrations of 2,0 mg L-1 and 0,1 mg L-1 respectively, for the lineage obtained from cultivating Camiño Real, and 1,5 mg L-1 and 0,1 mg L-1 respectively, for the lineage derived from the cultivar Festival. The results of seed germination and plant regeneration have shown that it is possible to apply the technique of plant tissue culture for strawberry (FragariaxananassaDuch). / Juntamente com a amora e a framboesa, o morango (Fragaria x ananassa) faz parte do grupo dos pequenos frutos vermelhos. Pertencente a família Rosaceae, o morango destaca-se pelo valor nutricional e pela importância econômica. Nos últimos anos tem se observado um crescimento na produção brasileira de morangos, no entanto, a participação do Brasil na produção mundial ainda é reduzida. Visando o aumento da produção e a melhoraria da qualidade dos frutos produzidos têm se buscado alternativas, tais como cultivares melhor adaptadas as regiões de produção e mudas de melhor qualidade. Considerando que a cultura de tecidos vegetais pode ser uma técnica para introdução de melhorias neste sistema de produção, o trabalho foi desenvolvido com os objetivos de avaliar as condições de germinação de sementes de morangueiro cv. Camiño Real e estabelecer os protocolos de regeneração por meio de organogênese, para as linhagens genéticas obtidas a partir das cultivares Camiño Real e Festival. Para avaliação das condições de germinação, foram utilizados aquênios frescos e armazenados por 2 e 12 meses. Estes foram submetidos à diferentes tratamentos para germinação in vitro e fotoperíodo de 16 horas e de 0 horas. A partir das avaliações da porcentagem de germinação e da massa fresca das plântulas obtidas, concluiu-se que o armazenamento dos aquênios reduz significativamente a viabilidade dos mesmos, para aquênios frescos os tratamentos de escarificação com lixa comercial e com ácido sulfúrico foram os que apresentaram melhores resultados. Concluiu-se ainda que as sementes de morango apresentam comportamento fotoblástico positivo. Para a regeneração, por meio de organogênese indireta, das linhagens genéticas obtidas a partir das sementes foram utilizados explantes foliares e peciolares acondicionados em meio de cultura suplementado com diferentes concentrações de reguladores de crescimento. As variáveis avaliadas foram: porcentagem de explantes com calos, com gemas e com brotos, número de gemas e de brotos por explante, porcentagem de plântulas enraizadas, massa fresca das plântulas e porcentagem de sobrevivência das plantas após a aclimatação. Por meio destas avaliações foi possível concluir que os explantes foliares apresentaram melhores resultados para os genótipos testados. Os reguladores de crescimento recomendados foram TDZ e AIB, nas concentrações de 2,0 mg L-1 e 0,1 mg L-1 respectivamente, para a linhagem obtida a partir da cultivar Camiño Real, e 1,5 mg L-1 e 0,1 mg L-1 respectivamente, para a linhagem obtida a partir da cultivar Festival. Os resultados obtidos de germinação de sementes e de regeneração de plantas, mostraram que é possível aplicar a técnica de cultura de tecidos vegetais para o morangueiro (Fragaria x ananassaDuch).

The experiments had been carried through in three phases, using post larvae with nine and ten days (PL9-10) and post larvae with twenty five and twenty six days (PL25-26) produced by commercial hatcheries. The acclimatization had been developed in aquariums with capacity of 44 liters each where the post larvae had stocked a density 11,3 PL/L, of with an acclimatization average time of of ten days.In first experiment had been tested concentrations lime, associates with the renewal rate daily of water of aquariums. In second experiment had been tested the concentration of lime and diets with two levels of artemia and artificial feed for shrimp. At the third experiment five diets with levels different of artemia, artificial feed for fish and artificial feed for shrimp had been tested. In the end of acclimatization in three experiments, post larvae had removed of the aquarium, counted, measured and weighted to calculate the survival, final weight, weight gain, final length and length gain. At first experiment the renewal rate of 50% daily of water de 50% were more efficient at post larvae parameter growth. In second experiment, diet D1 provided best survival than diet D2 (P < 0.05). While in third experiment, the survival rates were best to make useful artificial feed for fish. As conclusion, the water ofrenewal rate and diets had influenced significantly (P<0,05) on zootechnical data of these specie. / Experimentos foram realizados no Laboratório de Carcinicultura do Departamento de Pesca da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE), objetivando aclimatar pós-larvas do camarão marinho Litopenaeus vannamei à água doce, durante o período de 2003 a 2004. Os experimentos foram realizados em três fases, utilizando-se pós-larvas com idade de nove e dez dias (PL9-10) e 25 e 26 dias (PL25-26), provenientes de larviculturas comerciais. A aclimatação foi realizada em aquários com capacidade de 44 litros cada, onde as pós-larvas foram estocadas na densidade de 11,36 pós-larvas/L com um tempo médio de aclimatação de dez dias. No primeiro experimento foram testadas concentrações de cal, associadas com a taxa de renovação diária da água dos aquários. No segundo experimento testaram-se concentrações de cal e dietas com dois níveis de concentração de artêmia e ração comercial para camarão. No terceiro experimento foram testadas cinco dietas com níveis diferentes de artêmia, ração para peixe e ração para camarão. No final da aclimatação de cada experimento, as pós-larvas foram retiradas dos aquários, contadas e realizadas biometrias, para estimar respectivamente a sobrevivência, o peso final, ganho de peso, comprimento final e ganho de comprimento. No primeiro experimento a taxa de 50% de renovação diária da água foi mais eficiente sobre os parâmetros de crescimentos das pós-larvas. No segundo experimento, a dieta D1 proporcionou melhores índices sobrevivência que a dieta D2 (P < 0,05). Enquanto no terceiro experimento, os índices de sobrevivências foram melhores ao utilizar-se a ração de peixe. Pode-se concluir que a taxa de renovação da água e a alimentaçãoinfluenciaram (P < 0,05) nos dados zootécnicos da espécie.

Heat Stress Degrades Hiking Performance

abstract: This study investigated the effect of environmental heat stress on physiological and performance measures during a ~4 mi time trial (TT) mountain hike in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Participants (n = 12; 7M/5F; age 21.6 ± 2.47 [SD]) climbed ‘A’ mountain (~1 mi) four times on a hot day (HOT; wet bulb globe temperature [WBGT] = 31.6°C) and again on a moderate day (MOD; WBGT = 19.0°C). Physiological and performance measures were made before and throughout the course of each hike. Mean pre-hike hydration status (urine specific gravity [USG]) indicated that participants began both HOT and MOD trials in a euhydrated state (1.016 ± 0.010 and 1.010 ± 0.008, respectively) and means did not differ significantly between trials (p = .085). Time trial performance was impaired by -11% (11.1 minutes) in the HOT trial (105 ± 21.7 min), compared to MOD (93.9 ± 13.1 min) (p = .013). Peak core temperatures were significantly higher in HOT (38.5 ± 0.36°C) versus MOD (38.0 ± 0.30°C) with progressively increasing differences between trials over time (p < .001). Peak ratings of perceived exertion were significantly higher in HOT (14.2 ± 2.38) compared to MOD (11.9 ± 2.02) (p = .007). Relative intensity (percent of age-predicted maximal heart rate [HR]), estimated absolute intensity (metabolic equivalents [METs]), and estimated energy expenditure (MET-h) were all increased in HOT, but not significantly so. The HOT condition reduced predicted maximal aerobic capacity (CRFp) by 6% (p = .026). Sweat rates differed significantly between HOT (1.38 ± 0.53 L/h) and MOD (0.84 ± 0.27 L/h) (p = .01). Percent body mass loss (PBML) did not differ significantly between HOT (1.06 ± 0.95%) and MOD (0.98 ± 0.84%) (p = .869). All repeated measures variables showed significant between-subjects effects (p < .05), indicating individual differences in response to test conditions. Heat stress was shown to negatively affect physiological and performance measures in recreational mountain hikers. Britton a medicinal, herbal immunomodulator, annual herbaceous deadnettle family (Lamiaceae Lindl.) plant originated from Asia passes all development cycle in middle Lithuanian climatic conditions. P. Frutescens vegetation length on the average is 167 days. Earliest initiation of vegetation and optimal climatic conditions for growth are when HTC=1,60-1,80, that is excess heavy humidity. Optimal climatic conditions for massive flowering and seed ripeness are when HTC=1,20, then massive flowering starts 10 days earlier and Lasts for 25 days. Strong correlation interdependence was established between massive flowering and HTC (R2=0,9406). After the investigation of P.frutescens terraneous parts (high, relative plain area) consistent patterns of vegetation rhythmic, the optimal harvest time, which determines raw material’s quality and quantity, was established, by using mathematical – statistical methods.

Pagal pasaulinę sveikatos organizaciją, sveikata — tai fizinė, dvasinė ir socialinė gerovė, o ne tik ligos ar negalios nebuvimas. Svarbus sveikatą veikiantis veiksnys yra aplinkos temperatūra. Kiekvieno žmogaus organizmas puikiai geba prisitaikyti prie kintančių aplinkos temperatūros sąlygų, tačiau skirtingi žmonės įvairiai reaguoja į temperatūros pasikeitimus. Padidėjus žmogaus kūno temperatūrai gali įvykti perkaitimas — hipertermija. Probleminis klausimas. Ar dirbtinėmis sąlygomis sukėlus hipertermiją, moterų organizmas adaptuosis prie jos? Ar hipertermija riboja raumens funkcines galimybes atliekant maksimalaus intensyvumo izometrinius pratimus? Tyrimo tikslas buvo įvertinti aklimatizacijos hipertermijai ��taką moterų organizmui. Tyrimo tikslui pasiekti iškelti uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti hipertermijos poveikį tiriamųjų širdies susitraukimų dažniui bei pulsiniam spaudimui. 2. Nustatyti tiriamųjų rektalinės, odos, bendrą kūno temperatūrų kaitą ir netenkamą kūno svorį sukėlus hipertermiją. 3. Įvertinti tiriamųjų subjektyvų šiluminį pojūtį, šiluminį komfortą bei šiluminį stresą sukėlus hipertermiją. 4. Nustatyti hipertermijos poveikį maksimaliai valingai jėgai ir centriniam nuovargiui, atliekant 2 min. maksimalų izometrinį krūvį. Išanalizavus tyrimo rezultatus nustatyta, kad septynis kartus kas antrą dieną pasyviai šildant kūną, įmerkiant kojas į vandenį, kur vandens temperatūra 44oC, bei taikant maksimalios valingos jėgos 2 minučių krūvį (MVJ-2 min.), organizmo aklimatizacija... An important factor that affects health is the environmental temperature. Every person’s body can adapt well to changing environment conditions, however different people react in a variety of ways to changes in temperature. Increase in human body temperature can lead to overheating - hyperthermia. The goal of the research was to evaluate the effect of acclimatization to hyperthermia to the fatigue of skeletal muscles of adult women when performing maximum intensity isometric exercises. Tasks in order to reach the goal of the research: 1. To determine the effect of hyperthermia to the subjects' heart contraction rate and pulse pressure. 2. To determine the variation of the subjects' rectal, skin and general body temperature and body weight loss during induced hyperthermia. 3. To evaluate the subjective heat sensation, heat comfort and heat stress of the subjects during induced hyperthermia. 4. To determine the effect of hyperthermia to maximum volitional strength and central fatigue when performing maximum 2 min. isometric load.
