Educational Activities at the University of Jordan in Two Decades (1962-1982)Sammour, Hael Y. 05 1900 (has links)
This study examined the educational activities at the University of Jordan, established in 1962, which is the oldest university in the country. The study traced the historical development of the university, which emphasizes highly-qualified graduates, and analyzed some of its educational practices.
Research on this subject is limited. Jordanians have written little about their educational system, and there is little evidence of foreign scholars' interest in the subject. Some researchers argued that national pride was the main reason for establishing the university, since financial resources were not available to initiate and sustain serious research.
The university started in the fall semester of 1962 with 167 students and one faculty, the Faculty of Arts. Two decades later, the university had ten faculties: Commerce and Administrative Sciences, Sciences, Medical Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy), Agriculture, Education, Law, Engineering, Sharia, and Physical Education.
The total number of staff continued to increase from 7 in 1962 to 627 by 1982. The size of the physical structure increased from one building to 40 buildings with approximately 18,000 square meters in 1982. As of 1982, more than 15,253 students had graduated from the university with bachelor's, master's, and diplomas-in-education degrees.
In 1972, the University of Jordan changed from the yearly system to the credit-hour system, making it the first university in the region to adapt the credit-hour system. This study also provided information on students studying in Jordanian schools, students in host countries, students and faculty distribution in seven faculties, faculty demographics, research projects, degree programs, university budgets, as well as the multipurpose general secondary education examination which has no clear directive philosophy.

Building projects coordinator: study and proposal for profile, activities and autonomy.Nóbrega Júnior, Claudino Lins 09 February 2012 (has links)
At the moment, the companies of the sector of civil building are developing and improving the work of design coordination and include, besides attribution of coordination, responsibility with costs planning, phases and deadlines of the design process, hiring of designers, and analysis of project. Therefore, the competence of the design coordinator becomes decisive for the quality of the building project sent to the building site, and more broadly, the coordinator has great importance for the success of the undertaking and of the companies involved in the design building. This research has the main objective of proposing the profile, the activities and the most adequate autonomy for the coordinator of edification projects in the context of the Brazilian civil building. For this, the Delphi method was selected to be used in this research where 3 questionnaires were applied: the first was referred to the initial exploratory research for the choice of the participants of the research and contained questions about the current profile of the design coordinators; the second, related to the prospective study, was composed of questions totally open, according to the Delphi method and conversed about the profile, the activities and the autonomy of the coordinators. The answers received were tabulated, analyzed and sent, as a closed and objective questionnaire, for the interviewees aiming to converge the answers to a common denominator. The result obtained made explicit that the segment of edifications projects need coordinators of project not only with experience and technical knowledge in several areas that compose the complete design of the building, but also with abilities and competence to manage the professionals that compose the design team. Based on the final proposal for the profile, the competence, the knowledge, the abilities, the activities and the autonomy of the design coordinator were developed yet directives for a conception of a new curriculum for a post-graduation course in coordination of building projects.

L'activité leishmanicide in vitro semble prometteuse.

A Comparative Study of Children's Intensity of Task-Involvement in a Selected Nursery SchoolRoan, Bi-Sho 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was a comparison of young children's intensity of task—involvement in child—selected activities. A group of 23 children, four to six years of age, was selected as the subjects from a university affiliated child development laboratory school. These children were observed during child-selected activities for five consecutive weeks. The instrument utilized to collect the data was the Intensity Of Involvement Scale, composed of seven categories of intensity from "Unoccupied" to "Complete." To obtain reliable data, two observers were involved in the observation and a carefully planned procedure of observation was followed accurately. The comparison of children's intensity of task-involvement among child-selected activities, using statistical methods of mean and standard deviation, yielded a similar result among various groups of children. The learning centers in which children were involved most intensely were water play, family living, manipulative, and art centers. The children, however, were involved in the reading, block, and writing centers less intensely. In comparing children's intensity of task-involvement between age-groups and sex-groups, the analyses of two-way t-test revealed that age-differences were significant (p<.05) but sex-differences were not significant in children's overall intensity of task-involvement. Also, the results showed that the significance of differences in children's intensity of task-involvement in each child-selected activity depended more upon the age than the sex of children. In addition, individual differences in children's intensity of task-involvement were examined using mean, frequency distribution, and range. The finding was that children differed from one another in their degrees and variability of intensity of task-involvement in child-selected activities.
