Medarbetarsamtalets påverkan på motivation / Performance appraisal interview and it's impact on motivationBengtsson, Jenny, Donderer, Victoria January 2018 (has links)

Understanding the role of appraisal in the relationship between work overload, work engagement and burnout in South African organisationsDzuguda, Hulisani 18 February 2020 (has links)
The objective of the study was to investigate how individual appraisal of high workload as a challenge or a hindrance stressor correlates with work engagement and burnout. The work environment is fraught with high workloads, resulting in stress for employees. The cost of employee stress and ill health to organisations and society is reported to be high due to lost productivity and healthcare costs. The current study used the challenge-hindrance stressor model to determine the impact of appraisal on the relationship between work overload and work engagement/burnout. The current study proposed that employees experience both work engagement and burnout concurrently depending on whether they appraise work overload as a challenge or a hindrance stressor. An explanatory quantitative design was used to survey employees from multiple organisations in South Africa, yielding 144 full-time, permanently employed respondents. Findings from the study indicated that stressors that were appraised as challenges were linked to work engagement, whereas stressors that were appraised as hindrances were linked to burnout. The study also found that employees appraise work overload as a hindrance not a challenge, resulting in a negative relationship between work overload and work engagement and a positive relationship between work overload and burnout. The implication is that when employees have high workloads, their engagement does not increase; their likelihood of burnout increases. The study determined no positive outcomes of high workloads, only the risk of highly engaged employees becoming fatigued and burnt out. Hence, it is recommended that organisations manage the workloads of their employees.

Post-EIA monitoring and WebTAG objectives: A review of selected road projects in UK.Choga, Faith January 2011 (has links)
Roads are an important part of the infrastructure of any country, as they facilitate the transportation of goods and people. The UK has got a good road network but has a low motorway density compared to other European countries. The High-ways Agency has a programme to improve the road network, mainly to ease con-gestion. To ensure the sustainability of road projects the UK government has set guidelines and standards that have to be met. These are the criteria used to ap-praise road projects for which EIA is a significant input. This paper seeks to find the connection between the transport appraisal objectives and post-EIA monitor-ing. The study was carried out by reviewing EIS and CEMP documents of three road projects in England. A short questionnaire with open questions was also ad-ministered. The results show that monitoring of impacts associated with the re-spective projects was mainly proposed during the construction phase, and for en-vironmental impacts. Social and economic impacts are generally not monitored during and after construction. Whilst post-EIA monitoring of impacts is seldom carried out, monitoring depends on the type of project, construction involved and the location of the project. More research is required in different kinds of projects, and more needs to be done to enforce ongoing monitoring after the EIA to sup-port the POPE exercise.

Doctor YouTube’s Opinion on Seasonal Influenza: A Critical Appraisal of the Information Available to PatientsKallur, Akhil, Albalbissi, Ahmad, Carillo-Martin, Ismael, Boonpheng, Boonphiphop, Kallur, Lakshmi, Kherallah, Yaman, Mahajan, Akhilesh, Mahapatra, Shayan, Mohan, Kaushik, Mohan, Priyasree, Reddy, Keerti, Sankhyan, Pratyaksha, Lopez-Alvarez, Sonia, Youssef, Dima, El Abbassi, Adel M., Gonzalez-Estrada, Alexei 01 January 2020 (has links)
Background: Seasonal influenza is a respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. During the 2017–2018 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted approximately 959,000 hospitalizations and 79,400 deaths from influenza. We sought to evaluate the educational quality of informational videos pertaining to seasonal influenza on the popular social media forum, YouTube. Methods: Using the keywords “seasonal influenza,” all videos from 28 January to 5 February 2017 were included and analyzed for characteristics, source, and content. The source was further classified as healthcare provider, alternative-medicine provider, the patient and/or their parents, company, media, or professional society. Videos about other categories of influenza (e.g. swine or Spanish) or in foreign languages were excluded. A total of 10 blinded reviewers scored each video independently. Results: Overall, 300 videos were analyzed, with a median of 341.50 views, 1.00 likes, 0 dislikes, and 0 comments. Based on the average scores of videos by source, there was statistically significant difference in the average score among videos by video source (p < 0.01). Healthcare provider videos had the highest mean scores whereas alternative medicine provider videos had the lowest. Conclusions: Although the aforementioned video sources scored higher than others, these videos did not fulfill our criteria as far as educating patients thoroughly. Our data also suggest alternative medicine and patient source videos were misleading for patients. Clinical implications: Although videos by healthcare providers were a better source of information, videos on seasonal influenza were shown to be poor sources of valid healthcare information. This study reiterates the need for higher-quality educational videos on seasonal influenza by the medical community.

Performance Based Teacher Appraisal and DevelopmentGoba, Sybil Sibongile. January 2002 (has links)
Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of
Master of Education in the Department of Educational Planning and Administration,
University of Zululand, 2002. / This research examined the role of performance based teacher appraisal and development in the educator's professional growth and improvement of education.
The study made use of questionnaires to establish the perceptions of educators towards performance based teacher appraisal and development.
The findings established that post level one educators and school management teams which were sampled have different views and perceptions on performance based teacher appraisal.
Most post level one educators perceive the developmental appraisal system (DAS) as evaluative. They believe it exposes their weaknesses and does not lead to their development and promotion. They believe that developmental appraisal does not have a positive impact on their teaching. They also feel that developmental appraisal system (DAS) is not a factor in the improvement of education because it is only targeting them as educators. As yet, they do not see DAS as contributing to their growth.
School management teams on the other hand perceive that performance based teacher appraisal plays a vital role in the educator's professional growth, the improvement of education and the development of schools as efficient and effective learning organisations. The school management teams believe that developmental appraisal is desirable if schools are to provide learners with quality education which will ensure that schools achieve excellence.
On the basis of views and opinions of respondents, the study concluded that performance based teacher appraisal and development is desirable for education and growth of schools as effective and efficient teaching and learning institutions. However, there is need to assist educators to realise that DAS is important for their growth. More important, the process of the implementation of DAS, it is concluded, needs to promote educator development.

A Critical Appraisal of Methods of Sucrose Analysis in Sugar BeetsLebaron, Homer M. 01 May 1958 (has links)
Although the parent of the present sugar beet was probably known and used before the building of the pyramid of Cheops (22), it was as recent as 210 years ago that Marggraf obtained the first crystalized sucrose from the root. It was 40 years later before Achard claimed its potentialities as an efficient industry. The product rapidly passed from the status of a luxury to a vital necessity, until today sugar beet production receives some protection or preference in every country where sugar beets are grown.
Throughout its 174-year history it has probably been beset with a greater variety of problem and more failures than any other industry before or since. One of the greatest problems has been the actual means of sucrose extraction and determination.
The determination of sucrose in sugar beets is the most important function in a beet sugar factory laboratory (3). This value is necessary as the basis for calculations of sugar yields and losses, for fixing the value of beets in factories where these are bought on the basis of their sugar content and for other purposes. Sugar content determinations are also for vital importance to the plant breeder, soil scientist, plant physiologist, and other researchers concerned with sugar beet analysis.
Values of such importance should be determined by methods of corresponding accuracy. However, in 1927 Stanek and Vondrak (3) stated that there is no routine method as yet which permits the determination of the sugar in the beet to within an accuracy of 0.1 per cent. It is doubtful that the fundamental accuracy of the saccharimetry methods has improved much since this time.
Numerous methods of sucrose analysis are used and are being recommended for use both in sugar beet factory and research laboratories. Although most methods now used are based on the principle of aqueous digestion and single polarimetry, there are wide variations in actual procedures. The available literature is deficient in adequate comparative studies into this problem. It would be of considerable value to researchers in sugar beet production and analysis to know the relative accuracy and precision of these methods and the effects of the several variables now prevalent.

The Secondary Benefits of Irrigation Water: An Economic AppraisalGodfrey, Erik Bruce 01 May 1968 (has links)
The secondary or external benefits of increasing the availability of water for irrigation and changing the allocation of an existing water supply was analyzed from a theoretical point of view.
" Input-output" models for Cache County, Utah, and for the stat e of Utah were us ed to indicate the intersectoral relationship of water used by agriculture and other sectors in each economy.
The indirect value of water used by agriculture in Cache County was estimated. A method that extended the procedure used in this thesis was proposed that could be used to estimate the value of water in ether sectors. A "water matrix" was used to indicate reasons why large allocations of water to agriculture may be economically justified.
