Previous issue date: 2010-08-19 / The pattern of land use and occupation of the Cerrado associated with the expansion of the agricultural frontier, in the last 40 years, has been interpreted as causing environmental impacts observed him during this period, especially those related to intensive deforestation and indiscriminate use of areas with soils with low or null agricultural capability, although capable of extensive pastures. The Erosion processes have been described as the most significant, positioned after the remarkable loss of biodiversity, the most important and extensive in area. The present thesis analyzes the relationship between the land use valued at historical series started in the decade of 1975, agricultural suitability of land use pattern and the erosion and silting sites of the two combined basins for purposes of this study, called basins of the rivers Claro and Bois, tributaries of the upper Araguaia river in the state of Goiás. This area was considered in previous studies as the most affected by deforestation among the five sub-basins that make up the upper Araguaia river basin. The research was based an integrated analysis of the physical environment and biota components of the focus area, with base on remote sensing and GIS and pedotransfer criteria. The results are presented as scientific papers and reveal that the most intensive phase of deforestation occurred in the 1980s, when the Forest Formations were most penalized originally, followed by the Savanna Formations, that the conversion occurred in favor of extensive pastures, for which the area has good suitability soil and relief associates; that the numerous of linear erosion impacts, 395 linear erosion features placed in degraded pastures are concentrated in these areas, which predominate low discrepancies between suitability and actual use. As evidenced in the spatial analysis, it is confirmed the presence of 395 linear erosion features associated with degraded pastures. It is concluded that the area supports the pattern of initial occupation of the Cerrado by its conversion to pasture and that environmental impacts arising from the management of them more than this type of use.

Archaeology in the watershed Xingu-Tocantins region: the ocupation of Tupi in the Cateté RiverGarcia, Lorena Luana Wanessa Gomes 07 March 2012 (has links)
Located in the Xingu, Araguaia and Tocantins Rivers watershed, the Cateté River region has a longstanding history of indigenous settlements. Such history was recorded through archaeological sites where fragments of pottery connected to the Incised Rim and Barrancoid traditions were found - the sites date back as far as 190 AD, and are related to the expansion of the Aruak indigenous people - and also through the settlement of the Kaiapó indigenous people of Jê language, which have been living in the Cateté River region since the 19th Century. There are records, which date back as far as 280 AD, of the presence of Tupi indigenous peoples in the region during the wide interval between the settlements of the societies mentioned above could be found. This picture, in part, is supported by the results of formal variability studies of fragments of pottery found in the archaeological sites of Mutuca and Ourilândia 2, and also by the review of regional archaeological phases: the Itacaiunas and Carapanã phases. The fragments of pottery connected with the settlement of the Tupi peoples in the Mutuca site contextualized regionally as part of the the Itacaiúnas phase. As to the Carapanã phase we propose that it be subjected to review, for this phase is subject to the space/time variation of the Incised Rim and Barrancoid traditions, which have been identified locally in the Ourilândia 2 site and in the records of more ancient establishments in the Mutuca site. This review supports the hypothesis that there is a correspondence between the technological style of the pottery of the Carapanã (Medium Xingu and Itacaiúnas) and the Ipavu (Upper Xingu) phases. Both of them are connected to the same archaeological traditions. This being the case, the Carapanã phase would represent the period when the ancestors of the Aruak peoples reached southern Amazon and settled in the region of Upper Xingu around 800 AD.

During 1970 years, by liberation theology criteria, D. Pedro Casaldáliga, Prelacy bishop¿s, appears like a central figure in the middle of political tension between the called Popular Church and Military Dictatorship, in the moment of large state implementation in the north of Mato Grosso state. The prophecy idea was crucial for Casaldáliga¿s actuation and for his political-pastoral project in the region. Organized around prophetic identity, the memories-histories narratives about the Prelacy and Casaldáliga forged a catholic culture of liberation on various scopes of religious practices. The contradictions and limits of Prelacy¿s prophetic identity and, at the end, the conformation of this prophetic identity up against the change of political-social context in São Félix do Araguaia in the 1980 and 1990 decades are the matters dialed here / Mestrado / Historia Cultural / Mestre em História

Previous issue date: 2006-05-29 / The Araguaia River is the most important fluvial system of South America. With an area of 380.000Km², it´s includes two phytogeography regions that have a good part of planet
biodiversity: Cerrado, in the south, and Amazonia Forest, in the north of Brazil. The high level of Cerrado ecosystem destruction and changes in the land using, after 1965, promoted an intense sedimentation in fluvial system. This study is about the channel of Araguaia river, in a 580 km extension, between the city of Barra do Garças (MT) and the confluence of Cristalino and Araguaia Rivers. The multidisciplinary approach of this study has as aim
analyze the channel geomorphic and middle reach alluvial plains processes causing environmental changes to the channel morphology and to vegetation succession, done by the erosive and sedimentary processes in the channel. The quantitative data were obtained through maps, air photographs and topographic charts from Landsat 1 MMS (1975) and Landsat 5 TM (1998). Using geoprocessing recourses were done areal reports of erosive and sedimentary plans and were applied mathematics equations to estimate sediments bulk and mass remobilized and stored in fluvial system. Were obtained also socioeconomics information about the Araguaia River basin area in Goiás, during the decades of 1960 and 2000, the cities of this same basin s GDP, the cattle growing statistics, vegetation and deforestation areas. The physical and socioeconomic data showed a correlation between the emergence of geomorphologic processes that had modified the channel, with the growth and development socioeconomics activities. The gotten results had disclosed that between 1965 and 1975, few changes had occurred in the fluvial channel. After 1975, a sped up erosion process of the channel edges and of islands has beginning, mobilizing the sediments, the bigger vegetation, as arboreal and bush arboreal type, that are associates to the oldest units of alluvial plain. With greater arrives of sediments that had entered in the channel, from the edges and the islands erosion, before steady, and in bigger degree, through the tributaries that drain the contribution basin area, modified for the use of the land (cattle and agriculture), the excess of sediments intensified the lateral sedimentation and the formation of bars of the central type, increasing the interlacement of the channel and, therefore, its morphology. It was estimated that between 1965 and 1998, about 233 million tons of sediments had been stored in the fluvial channel of Araguaia river. In the new sedimentation areas it was developed herbaceous vegetation adapted to the sandy surfaces. It was evident that it is occurring, in the plain, the substitution of a bigger vegetation, with bigger floristic diversity, for a grassy vegetation of the type herbaceous, associates to the formation of a geomorphologic unit younger and unstable to the erosive and sedimentary processes, because of the hydrologic channel behavior. This fact probably will bring consequences to the diverse biological processes associates to all alluvial plain. In one another approach, throughout the historical period of the analysis, was verified that as they increased the percentages of Cerrado natural vegetation areas in the area of the basin converted into agricultural areas and of cultivated pastures, the GDP of the cities also increased. The correlation between deforested areas, growth of the GDP, volume and mass of sediments stored in the fluvial system and increase of arenaceous bars in the channel resulted absolutely in satisfactory evidences in inferring that the economic growth of the region is in a relation of direct dependence with the changes in the use of the land of the Cerrado areas, and its ambient implications in the processes of morphologic changes in the Araguaia River channel and plain / A bacia do rio Araguaia é um dos sistemas fluviais mais importantes da América do Sul.

June and September), and it happens since the 1940s. The formation of large banks, ease of
access by many cities, the beautiful setting of the local landscape with elements from fauna
and flora, and fishing waters are the main attractions that contribute to the resumption of the
groups to the annual camps. And this article is about the dynamics of the social mobility of
these camps, built along the beaches that emerge from the Araguaia River / GO for the
practice of leisure and fishing, its environmental dynamics and symbolic meanings,
especially those located in the vicinity of the city of Aruanã / GO. It aims the analysis of the
ownership of the beaches of the river Araguaia / GO, with a view to understanding the
representations that actors (campers) set with the environment (the river) and how this
appropriation may provide grants for environmental planning in land use of the beaches and
in environmental education. Our main goal in this research is to analyze the configuration of
the representations established between the campers and the Araguaia River, in order to
understand how these actors establish their environmental processes of appropriation of the
river, and how these relationships can provide tools for thinking about the environmental
planning of cultural practice of use of the beaches of Araguaia. The work consists of two
main parts. The first - Structural Aspects of the Environment Search: Araguaia River, Public
Policies of Tourism and Environment Appropriation - presents aspects of ownership and
representations, the relationship with the environment in the structure of the camps and its
actors. It is structured into two chapters - the Araguaia River, the characterization of
environment and the historical aspects of the occupation of Araguaia Valley tourism
perspective, and Behavior in representation: an environmental assessment of camps in the
season of beaches in Araguaia River. The second part is about the symbolic-affective
environment of the research tradition, memory, topofilia, and discusses about the symbolic
relationships we propose to read about the camps attempting to understand the meanings
and representations of the river to its actors. It is divided in three chapters - The Pilgrimage
of waters; Fluid memories representations in speech: narratives and emotional relationship
of camp and campers of the Araguaia River, and A port to the polysemy of the camps of
Araguaia River, contradictions, dialogue and synthesis. The latter one summarizes the
discussions throughout the work, proposing actions for planning and for an environmental
education wich consider the relationships and representations that actors build up from the
camps to the river. Considering that the camps in Araguaia River are constituted as a
traditional cultural practice, other contexts are necessary for a planning practice in the
appropriation of the environment, respecting the polysemy that configures the relationship
between society and Berohocy.
do município de Aruanã/GO.
A segunda parte trata do Ambiente simbólico-afetivo

This research aims to present and discuss various forms of occupation and the political uses of Amazon territories in the twentieth century, highlighting the Amazon in Mato Grosso - the Araguaia valley. Therefore, from the perspective of Cultural History, the set of discourses that constitute the documentary sources reveals the strategies of action with which the various social agents operate their purposes. In different games of interest, dimensions of public and private are intertwined, as well as the general and the particular, the formal and the informal, ethics and aesthetics. In this way, research results show the various individual and collective behaviors that produce meetings and disagreements, partners and adversaries, allies and enemies, from the conception that social groups formulate about the world they live in and, with them, build their life experiences. In the second half of the last century, the "inventory" of the Amazon spaces for economic exploitation purposes, which is established from government policies, originated many land conflicts on the basis of "land deals" that turned into land use. In these practices of violence, Catholic Church, entrepreneurs, government (Executive, Legislative and Judicial), social representations such as syndicate, CNBB, NGOs, OAB, etc., faced (and have been facing). And it has drawn the attention of journalists and intellectuals. Finally, research on the whole indicates the unique aspects of a historical time laden with representations of modernity, whose actions put values and traditions to the test. The forms of action, therefore, give meaning to the choices, political-economic and socio-cultural behaviors, victories and even failures with which the region's people (Indians, riverine, poor farmers and immigrants) build their life experiences in dimension and frames of progress / Doutorado / Historia Cultural / Doutora em História

Previous issue date: 2016-06-07 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás - FAPEG / The varied ways in which the urban phenomenon manifests itself through the production of
space, allowed the formation of cities, which go beyond the political-administrative
boundaries, thus identifying the existence of an intermediate scale between the urban
space and the urban network which manifests itself in the form of groupings of cities. This
intermediate scale of urban, which is groupings of cities, has different ways of grasping,
knowable, the phenomena that manifest themselves. The concepts of conurbation and urban
agglomeration are used to define the urban groupings, however, these concepts have
different meanings: conurbation from the autonomy of the cities; conurbation as coalescence
of urban areas; urban agglomerate urban center; and urban agglomerate as complex that
involves more than one city. Thus, the overall objective of this work is to understand the
spatial dynamics of the grouping formed by the small cities of Barra do Garças-MT, Pontal do
Araguaia-MT and Aragarças-GO, checking if the grouping features of conurbation or urban
agglomeration. Specifically, the objective: analyze the bibliography that deals with groups of
cities, listing the elements characteristic of spatial agglomeration and urban conurbation;
investigate the genesis and the evolution of cities that make up the Group; analyze the spatial
dynamics of the group considering the population, the economy, urban equipment,
management and spatial interactions; and check the spatial contradiction between the towns
while political-administrative units fragmented and economically integrated. The
methodological procedures of this research were: bibliographical research, secondary data
collection and fieldwork, as well as analysis and treatment of the empirical material and
documentary. Finally, the data linked to the theory were analyzed with the objective of
understanding the spatial dynamics of the group against the characteristics of the
phenomena of conurbation and urban agglomeration, thereby risking a definition for the
Group involving the cities investigated.
agrupamentos urbanos, no entanto, esses conceitos apresentam diferentes significados:
Assim, o objetivo geral deste trabalho é compreender a
dinâmica espacial do agrupamento de cidades de pequeno porte formado pelas cidades de
Barra do Garças-MT, Pontal do Araguaia-MT e Aragarças-GO, verificando se o agrupamento
político-administrativas fragmentadas e socioeconomicamente integradas.
envolve as cidades investigadas.

Previous issue date: 2013-11-22 / This thesis analyzes the changes that occurred in southern Pará in the period after the
Araguaia Guerrilla . Studies on the region aimed to understand how the Brazilian
government , still under the domain of the military , has adopted policies to exercise
effective control over an area just out of a guerrilla movement , whose crackdown
harshly affected the same population , with many people having been arrested and
subjected to imprisonment and torture . And the definition of a power paramilitary built
by Major Bullfinch . In the first chapter the characterization of the region aims to
present the conditions of a harsh environment , profoundly transformed by uncontrolled
deforestation for illegal marketing of wood, and later , aiming to transform it for
agropastoral production . The geographical categories , region, place and territory were
conceptualized and understood in their peculiarities , being fundamental in the analysis
of the research object . The second chapter studies the actions of the Brazilian state,
which defines the region , the eastern part of the Amazon , such as strategic and ,
through national and regional developments attempted to exercise control over it .
Identified in the survey that measures adopted following the precepts contained in the
ideology of National Security , and thereby social movements were criminalized . We
found that the media , especially SNI and CIE , acted with much emphasis to contain
the peasant organization and strengthened the power of the Major Bullfinch , that since
the end of the Araguaia Guerrilla constituted the key element of the military dictatorship
in the region , in formation of a paramilitary power and defining an extensive territory
in which the actions were harshly enforced by a fear of resurgent guerrilla . The third
chapter examines the conflicts that took place after Guerilla , fruit of the peasant
struggle to secure land tenure . Farmers , law enforcement authorities , big businessmen
allied to the policies implemented in the plans of the military dictatorship and turned the
region into one of the most violent in the country was possible to prove our hypothesis
that agents of the Brazilian state acted based on principles defined by National Security
doctrine , which turned into internal enemies those who responded to the theft of public
lands practiced with impunity and with the support of the authorities . Murders
succeeded when union leaders were eliminated , clerical and parliamentary practiced by
gunmen and police at the behest of farmers . At the end , the hypothesis is confirmed ,
demonstrating the existence of a power paramilitary under the command of Major Curio
, the use of the ideology of National Security to fight those who fought for land and the
implementation of policies that favored the large landowners land and / or companies
who have invested in the region accumulating tens of thousands of acres that once lived
peasant families . We conclude that the actions of the Brazilian government were
fundamental to generate the violence that characterized the region before an obsessive
fear of the possible reorganization of the guerrilla movement . For this , we used
centered theory authoritative works of classical authors of geopolitics , both in its
origins and Brazilian studies , in this case those linked to military doctrines generated
around the Superior School of War ( ESG ), the research done previously in region ,
who analyzed the phenomenon of occupation and expansion fronts and pioneering
works that have become classics and the stories of characters who lived the everyday
violence and were marked for death .
posterior à Guerrilha do Araguaia.
muitas pessoas tendo sido presas e submetidas a prisões e torturas.
As
vinculados às doutrinas militares geradas em torno da Escola Superior de Guerra (ESG);
