Digitaliseringens inverkan på traditionella affärsmodeller inom bilindustrin / The impact of digitalization on traditional business models in the automotive industryOlson, Anna, Ruzicka, Stepan January 2019 (has links)
The development from an industrial society to a digital society is ongoing, where digitalizationis an engine of development. Digitalization accelerates the necessity of developing traditional business models within organizations. Digitalization also has an impact on organizations and its development through the consumers. The needs of consumers have increased the pressure on organizations to establish new approaches to strategies, business flows and processes. The press to perform and develop has been particularly noted in the automotive industry. Organizations need to re-evaluate consumer needs and create digital business models that take advantage of new opportunities to generate competitiveness. Established organizations must act based on the changes generated by the new technology by updating and improving their traditional business model. In the event of failure, the organization risks being replaced by a competitor who is "faster" and "more efficient" in implementing significant innovations in their digital business model. The entire automotive industry is undergoing a trend that focuses on enhancing the use of digital solutions in a previously mechanically dominant industry. The purpose of the bachelor’s thesis is to investigate the impact of digitalization on traditional business models in the automotive industry. Other industries than the automotive industry are not affected by the study presented in this thesis in order not to risk the validity, transferability and reliability of the thesis. The thesis aims to treat the organization Volvo Cars and their work towards digitalization. A quality data collection method has been used as primary data when designing the empirical research at Volvo Cars to enable vicinity to the interviewee. Vicinity to the interviewee enables objectivity and understanding for the reality that is being studied. The study's conclusion shows that as a result of digitalization, organizations in the automotive industry need to increase the flexibility, reactivity and product individualization in order to create added value for the consumer through the implementation of digital solutions. The consumer is the main reason behind the digitalization and has the greatest impact on an organization's digital design.

At Renault, to fulfill upstream studies, teams in charge of crashworthiness use very simple models to pre-size the vehicle. Today, these models are built from the physical behavior of only one or some reference vehicles. They work and allow to size the project. But today, the company wishes to build its upstream models using all its vehicles. In other words, it wishes to get an automatic method to analyze crashtests simulations to capitalize their results in a database of simplified models. To meet this goal, we decide to use the multi-body model theory. We develop a method to analyze crashtests simulations in order to extract the data required to build a surrogate multi-body model : CrashScan. The analysis process implemented in CrashScan can be split into three major steps. The first one allows to identify the low deformed zones on a crashtest simulation. Then, we can build the topological graph of the future surrogate model. The second step is to analyze the relative kinematics between the low deformed zones : major directions and deformation modes (e.g. crushing or bending) are identified analysing relative movements. The last step is to analyze strengths and moments located between the low deformed zones, viewed in the frames associated to the major directions of deformations in function of the deformations. This allows us to identify equivalent Bouc-Wen hysteretic models. These models have three parameters that we can use : a stiffness, a threshold strength before plastification and a strain of hardening. These parameters can directly be used by upstream studies experts. Finally, we build multi-body models for three different use case. We compare them to their reference over the results they produce for the upstream criteria : models generated with CrashScan seems to grant the precision and the fidelity required to be used during automotive development's upstream phases. To continue this research work and get an industrial solution, there are still some locks to lift, the main ones are : synthesis of any movement into six elementary ones and multi-body synthesis on elements other than beams.

There is a trend towards faster market introductions in the automotive industry, which requires time and cost effective product development processes at the same time as there is a continual effort to increase the quality of the products. Deviations in the quality of components are costly, lead to scrapping and environmental burdens, involve safety risks and complicate planning within manufacturing organizations. For sustainable growth in the automotive industry, the non-profit organization Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) has developed the international quality standard IATF 16969. A part of complying with IATF 16969 is the use of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), which includes the risk management method Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). Process-FMEA (PFMEA) is a variant of FMEA used for quality assurance of the manufacturing process. The study aimed to investigate how vehicle manufacturers can successfully apply PFMEA for introductions of components and changes in the production. To fulfill the purpose, a case study was conducted where strengths and shortcomings with current working methods were mapped. This was done by 28 interviews at two of Scania's manufacturing units and interviews with five other major vehicle and component manufacturers, as well as an observational study of twelve PFMEA:s performed at Scania. The results from the study confirmed gaps between existing research regarding PFMEA and the practitical application. The gaps identified concern the delimitations made, the use of the risk priority number, the situations in which PFMEA is used as a basis for decisions, the structure of process support, the lack of system support, how PFMEA should be iterated, lack of a standardized learning process and the connection between related tools to PFMEA. For each gap, success factors are presented in the report. In general, the importance of starting from the organisation's conditions, strategy, goals and future vision when applying PFMEA was emphasized. There is a need for standardized learning and work processes in accordance with Lean and clarification about how the information transfer between PFMEA, Design-FMEA, Design For Manufacturing, control plan, flowchart and deviation system should take place. Furthermore, the development of RFQ material for a digital support system was recommended in order to enable simpler and more time-efficient information transfer and lessons learned within the organization. In conclusion, the knowledge contribution from the study is assumed to be of greatest interest to part manufacturers in the automotive industry. In other organizational conditions than at Scania's manufacturing units, special attention should be paid to the recommendations for work processes, deviation systems and organizational structure.
