Mormon Mommy Blogs: “There’s gotta be some women out there who feel the same way.”

King, Whitney L. 01 May 2011 (has links)
Communities in cyberspace have been present since the earliest days of home computers, when connecting to the web meant logging in to the WELL program. In 1994, when the Internet became more accessible to the public, and home computers were no longer considered a novelty, millions flocked to this new, virtual frontier that allowed them to connect with anyone around the globe. Folkloristics has been largely concerned with the tangible—what we can touch, hear, taste, and see. As the frontier of the web expanded, many folklorists contracted away from using it as a means to explore a new branch of folklore: virtual communities and all of the folkloric nuances that they possess. Fortunately, in recent years, folklorists have recognized the value and validity of the Internet folklore. This thesis is concerned with a very specific folk group, Mormon mommy bloggers, and how they function both in the blogosphere at large and the smaller niche of Mormon blogs, the bloggernacle. Mormon mommy blogs are distinctive in their vernacular, post material, and side bar badges. These blogs also provide a window not just into Mormon life, but also ideas about how faith can interact with identity and womanhood. Mormon mommy blogs are a vibrant genre of both Internet folklore and Mormon folklore. Mormon mommy blogs also serve as ways to undertake record-keeping for posterity and, for some, are a means of proselytizing, which are two important aspects of Mormon culture. Mormon mommy blogs also allow for frank conversations about expectations of the Mormon culture and the impossibilities of being the perfect Mormon woman. For non-Mormons, Mormon mommy blogs are a form of escapism into the lives of women who are confounding the notion that housewives and mothers are woefully unfulfilled. The fields of folkloristics, women and gender studies, and even religious studies could all benefit from examining mommy and Mormon mommy blogs. (102 pages)

Audience's behavior and attitudes towards lifestyle video blogs on Youtube

Mironova, Ellina January 2016 (has links)
Audiences perform as a key factor driving social media nowadays, and there would not be any point to create video content on Youtube if there was nobody to watch it. It is therefore important to study audiences and their behavior in order to find out viewers' preferences and to understand what makes them follow Youtube channels. The purpose of this research is to find out what is audience's behavior on Youtube and its attitude towards lifestyle content on the video platform. Additionally, in the theoretical part of my research I will take a look at the phenomena of fandom and the relationship between advertising and audiences. DIGITAL PAN-AFRICANSIM FOR LIBERATION: AN AFROCENTRIC ANALYSIS OF CONTEMPORARY TRAVEL DISCOURSES BY AFRICAN AMERICANS VISITING MODERN EGYPT

Harris, Christina Afia January 2019 (has links)
Utilizing Afrocentric thought, this dissertation examines digital Pan-Africanism as a new theory that demonstrates the liberatory potential of digital technology including internet-based writing and businesses. Focusing on the burgeoning Black travel industry, it specifically considers contemporary travel narratives written by African Americans visiting Egypt and includes a thematic analysis of travel blog posts. It highlights the role technology plays in making international travel more accessible to African Americans and the potential that diasporic travel has in creating and strengthening inter-cultural bonds between African people throughout the diaspora. To this end, this dissertation advocates utilizing digital platforms as a tool for increased diasporic travel and Pan-African activism. It conceptualizes this new theory, discusses its implications within and outside of the travel industry, and offers a model to demonstrate its effectiveness and applicability. / African American Studies

O uso do portfólio na formação contínua do professor reflexivo pesquisador / \"The use of portfolio in the training of reflective teacher researcher.\"

Andrade Filho, Antonio Costa 21 October 2011 (has links)
This research focuses on a process of continuous training of teachers from public schools in the region of Carapicuíba and Cotia using the portfolio as a resource for the education of reflective teachers. In a field survey conducted by the Bureau of Educational Board of Education from Carapicuíba, São Paulo, on ways of recording and evaluation showed that: teachers of different subjects in the curriculum of elementary and high school portfolios performed spontaneously, to knowing the cultural background and education of students. This fact called our attention and we seek to establish the first contacts with these educators to identify which types of portfolio they built, if they had theoretical knowledge about this practice and what they could still know about the potential of this material and its use for research and reflection on teaching and learning. Throughout the process of training the portfolio was presented as a tool for research and teaching, which added the blog to solve the unexpected route. We aim to check the development of the teacher\'s reflective about their practice from the use of these tools and to investigate the occurrence of transformations of teaching methodologies, as well as the production of knowledge in school. For the operationalization of this project, we conducted a series of training courses to clarify current trends in the use of portfolio and reflective teacher education. Data collection included the period from 2007 to 2009. We followed, in three schools of basic education, the teaching practice of 15 teachers of the following subjects: Portuguese Language, History, Geography, Art and Physical Education for understanding the ways in which they were compiled, collected, explained and presented the evidences of teaching and learning through the teacher registration. In this approach we have theoretical support for the following authors: John Dewey (1965), Donald Schon (1983, 2000), Antonio Nóvoa (1997), Isabel Alarcão (2005), Fernando Hernandez (2000), Idália de Sá-Chaves (2000, 2005), Selma Garrido, Evandro Ghedin (2002), Elsa Garrido (2000, 2010), Heloisa Dupas Penteado (2008, 2010), among others. We found out the introduction to reflective practice from the training offered.

Taken from the most widely circulated online newspapers in Brazil, the photography blogs from O Globo (FotoGlobo), O Estado de S. Paulo (Olhar sobre o Mundo), Zero Hora (FocoBlog), Diário Gaúcho (Diário da Foto) and Correio do Povo (FotoCorreio) stood out as places where the practice of photojournalism is commented on. When photojournalists post their blogs, they are simultaneously monitoring the routines of professionals and sharing knowledge among their peers. Foucault (1986, p.136) states that all practices are discursive and reflect a set of anonymous and historical rules which shape the actions of subjects while these subjects themselves create new rules in a constant state of self-reflection and reflective monitoring of different social actors. This leads us to the understanding that there is knowledge contained within these blogs, not a raw kind of knowledge, but one that is spread on a daily basis by current press photojournalists as they are practicing photojournalism. This material helped us to understand the practice and provided information about photojournalism as well as giving us some insight as to what photojournalist reporters think about their routines, the changes in the professions and their current role in society. And it is through these photographers’ constant discourse and writing on their blogs that has given us a better understanding of what the profession is, what its specific nature is and what the changes are that have affected it over time. Other forms of research like surveys and interviews as well as accompanying production routines in newsrooms from two main newspapers from Rio Grande do Sul has also brought us to this current understanding. This set of criteria has led us to think of blogs as a space for reflecting on the practice, observing the changes to the platform and its life cycle on the web from 2009 to 2015. This is a space dissimilar to both photography manuals and books (which are related to the praxis) and the newspapers themselves, which photographers view as places free from the chronospatial, thematic and esthetic suppression of printed press, thereby becoming heterotopical sites capable of supporting poetic narratives. It is within this bibliographic gap that the research proposal “Heteropia in photojournalism: photography blogs from the most widely circulated newspapers in Brazil as spaces for producing and reflecting on contemporary photojournalism practices” fits in. Ultimately, we intend to understand what photojournalists from these newspapers think about the profession as it is conducted within institutional photography blogs, thereby encouraging discourse on the activity and on how it is reflected on the disciplines of photojournalism.
