This research aims at understanding the role played by blogs and their potential to get democratic practices viable as content output, decision making procedures, and shaping power over public policy planning. Could the Blogsphere turn into an alternative and independent communication medium? In this case, would it be a kind of small medium able to counterbalace the prevailing pattern imposed by traditional mass media to the point of coming to be considered the Fouthpower´s antipower? Or else would it have already been drawn by the allencompassing media? In order to address these questions, this study unfolds a cartography of blog main categories which deals with political issues in Brazil. Aspects of mimesis and converging flows are confronted with the very Blogsphere and the net randomized features so as to offer a diagnosis of the current situation and the range capability of this new virtual tool.

Blogs íntimos: percursos no contexto discursivo do meio digital / Blogs íntimos: percursos no contexto discursivo do meio digitalMariana Della Dea Tavernari 02 October 2009 (has links)
As publication and social media tools, blogs related to individual daily routine explore the immersive and interactive potential from the digital media composing meaning circuits in the hypertextual labyrinth by considering a interdiscourse point of view. From a theoretical and methodological discursive perspective, either syntactic, semantic and pragmatic textual plans are evaluated in order to investigate the ways in which the subject emerges within space and time and to explore analytically the identity and subjectivity articulation, the memory process and the connection between public and private in the cyberspace. This method of analysis provides the object with a prospect of not only a component of multi-directional communication devices but as a tool to articulate the self narrative, marked by a specific form of enunciation that differs from the traditional journal due to hypertextual context that changes the discourse production. This methodology is based on the Theory of Enunciation and in the French Discourse Analysis, both focused not only on the linguistic mechanisms of subjective insurgency but also on the ways of the subject insertion in the order of discourse.

Porém, as
comunidade

Online Communities: An Intersection Between Computer-Mediated Communication, Subcultures and the Presentation of Self in the Global AgeYousry, Fallon 18 April 2018 (has links)
There has been extensive literature on the subject of subcultures in the fields of criminology and sociology. The term has undergone decades upon decades of revisions and debate amongst scholars. Despite the vast amount of literature available on the term subculture, there is unfortunately no clear-cut definition of what a subculture is, especially after what many sociologists referred to as the Post-Subcultural Turn. While that is problematic in and of itself, the term subculture still has yet to be framed and understood in light of recent technological advancements and strides towards globalization. This thesis will attempt to shed light on the muddled conceptions of the term subculture, as well as expanding subcultural theory to include subcultural engagement in online settings.
Chapter 1 will provide a chronological account of the term subculture, including many of its evolutions, revisions and interpretations based on different schools of thought. Chapter 2 will follow up by discussing many of the criticisms directed at past conceptualizations of subculture, and where the term subculture should be heading with regards to expanding its conceptualization without conflating it with other terms. Chapter 2 will finish by suggesting a new path towards conceptualization by adapting subculture to include how subcultures are being formed and maintained through the use of the Internet. To make sense of subcultures using social networking sites in future chapters, Chapter 3 will delve into some of the main technological developments of the Internet including computer-mediated communication, social networks, and how they function as virtual conduits for facilitating social interactions and the spread of knowledge. Chapter 4 will pick up from Chapter 3 by discussing deviance in online settings, as well as introducing a new Goffmanian approach to understanding the presentation of self in online settings. Lastly, Chapter 5 will seek to answer three main questions about subcultures and their existence in online settings:
1. How do social networking sites operate as virtual conduits for the presentation of self?
2. How do subculturalists use social networking sites to create a sense of online community and membership?
3. How do subculturalists employ presentation of self strategies?
These questions will be answered by employing an adapted Goffmanian approach to the presentation of self in online settings while also rethinking the concept of subcultural style. Lastly, this thesis will seek to provide guidance on where gaps in the literature still exist and can be explored in the near future.

Identifying the benefits of social media within large financial institutions in South AfricaVan der Ross, Robert January 2015 (has links)
Magister Commercii (Information Management) - MCom(IM) / In recent years, the information systems / information technology industry has been one of the most fast growing industries. Regularly, existing technologies are being upgraded and new technologies are being introduced within the industry. For these reasons, business institutions have to stay abreast with market trends and understand what the market is doing. Since the inceptions of social media, a relatively new phenomenon within industry, institutions have to get on board in terms of using these technologies simply because of what the customers are doing. The augmentation of social media applications within business has proved valuable in the sense that institutions are capitalising on what the customers are really saying. Social media applications take many forms and in this particular paper, the benefits of social media within large financial institution will be analysed. The main aim is to identify the benefits of social media platforms and how large financial institutions are benefiting from these revolutionary communication mediums. In order to fully conceptualise the nature of this research study, it takes the form of a
literature review at first, followed by empirical field research. Thereafter the research study uses case study methodology where interviews and survey questionnaires were used to make an in depth analysis of the benefits related to the financial companies. The outcomes of the study showed that there are many benefits of social media within financial institutions. The findings suggest that social media has the ability to enhance the brand, increase customer satisfaction as well as boost business services through innovation. Apart from this study adding to the existing body of knowledge, it could potentially create awareness of the benefits (if any) to financial industries and other industries as well and therefore could be advantageous. In essence, the study outcome could contribute to the improvement of current businesses.

Aanlynjoernale in Afrikaans onderrig : leerders se hantering van frustrasie (Afrikaans)Mihai, Maryke Anneke 18 January 2008 (has links)
This study focuses on blogging, as one of the possible uses of the computer in an Afrikaans class in order to improve integration between the learning areas in a school environment. It was a new experience for learners, especially the use of technology in an Afrikaans class. The researcher wanted to determine how learners will handle frustration in a new situation, with the focus on the different components operating in a school environment: the frustration caused by the use of the technology, the subjects / learners themselves, the rules they had to adhere to, the community they lived in: teacher, other learners, parents, who had to consider the project viability. The most important recommendation is that this type of exercise should become a preferred way of teaching and learning, due to its educational value in shaping learner’s minds and guiding teachers to see and do things differently in a technology driven society. / Dissertation (MEd (Computer Integrated Education))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Curriculum Studies / unrestricted

The Reading and Writing Connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content AreasMoran, Renee, Billen, Monica 30 June 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this article is make connections between two content areas, reading and writing, which have traditionally been separated and consider the relationship between their theoretical underpinnings. Based on their reciprocal nature, the authors posit that students could greatly benefit by reading and writing being taught simultaneously. Relying on this premise, this article provides the reader with three practical strategies that could be applied in the literacy classroom to intertwine reading and writing. These practical strategies include: classroom blogs, graphic depictions, and pen pal responses to literature.

Exploring the Impacts of Fashion Blog Type and Message Type on Female Consumer Response Towards the BrandMelton, Rebecca 12 1900 (has links)
The current study examines the influences of blog type and blog message type on consumers’ perceptions of brand credibility and brand similarity. Additionally, the study seeks to understand the interaction effects of blog type and message type on brand credibility and brand similarity and on consumer engagement with a blog. The findings reveal that message type, specifically product message, is an important consideration when marketers want to illustrate similarities between the brand and consumers. Additionally, it was found that product messages should be considered when encouraging consumer engagement with a blog. However, blog type did not have an effect on consumer perceptions of brand credibility and similarity or consumer engagement.
