Twittrande bibliotekarier: informationshantering 2.0?

Duffner - Ylvestedt, Nadja January 2012 (has links)
The present study is embedded in the research field of Personal Information Management (PIM) and its goal is to contribute to this research area by showing information management aspects in untraditional contexts, as in the social networking site Twitter. The aim and purpose of this two year's master thesis was to investigate the beha-viour of librarians within the context of Twitter. The objectives of this thesis focus on the query of the informa-tion management aspect of Twitter, and on the investigation into whether Twitter offers the possibility to reach a state of flow while using it, as well as inquiring into the relationship between Mihaly Csikszentmihalyis flow theory and PIM. The theoretical framework of this thesis is centred upon the flow theory and the conditions that are necessary to reach a state of flow. To fulfill the purpose of this thesis a directed content analysis is applied as an investigative method, where its in-depth research aspects will be applied upon the empirical material, which contains 429 tweets. These were collected over a period of one month from 20 people, and divided among 10 women and 10 men who identified themselves as librarians on Twitter. The resulting analysis of the material shows that there is an aspect of information management to Twitter, even though a small facet and appears most-ly with tweets that are related to work issues. The analysis also demonstrates that Twitter fulfills the conditions of flow and thereby it can be concluded that Twitter holds the possibility of a state of flow while it is in use. This illustrates that there is a relationship between PIM and Csikszentmihalyis flow theory. The conclusion is that with the structured information management the possibility for a state of flow to occur rises, while the state of flow itself supports information management by enabling people to successfully retrieve information by remembering that which otherwise may have been forgotten.

Vad tycker mamma att Kalle ska läsa? : vuxnas och barns attityder till barnlitteratur / What would mummy like Kalle to read? : adults and childrens attitudes towards children´s literature

Andersson, Pernilla, Hansson, Mary-Ann January 1997 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis is to examine how much parents interfere with their children's choice of literature and if they have an inf1uence on what their children read. lt also includes the children's point of view as weil as the librarian's. Twenty-one children answered a questionnaire, fourteen parents and one librarian were interviewed. An attempt was made to divide their answers into several sections and to compare the results with extensive source material. The result shows that the parents in our study, from a general point of view, are interested in what their children read, but they do not influence them into certain types of literature by purpose.

“Även om man har alla verktygen så kanske det inteblir riktigt bra ändå” : Fyra bibliotekariers tankar om bemötande, etik och riktlinjer påfolkbibliotek / ”Even if you have all the tools it might not be perfectanyway” : Four librarians’ thoughts on social interaction, ethics and guidelines in public libraries

Jonsson, Victoria, Svenblad, Hedda January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to examine four librarians’ thoughts and attitudes concerning the personal encounter between the librarian and the users in the publiclibrary setting. The research questions are: What thoughts and attitudes are expressed among the librarians concerning personal encounter between the librarian and the users? How do professional ethics, guidelines and policy documents apply to the librarians’ encounter with the library users? Are there any other factors affecting the encounter, and if so, what are these factors? The method used in this study, for answering the research questions and to gather the empirical information, is semi-structured interviews. The theories used for analyzing the results are the moral philosopher RichardM. Hare’s theory of two different levels of moral thinking, the intuitive and the critical level, and Stina Hall’s thoughts on the different preconditions for a successful encounter. Conclusions drawn from this study are that the definitions ofthe concept of personal encounter are different among the librarians, depending on context, duties, personal characteristics and background. In the personal encounter swith the users, the librarians seem to apply professional ethics, guidelines and policy documents, as much as their personal values. Other factors affecting the encounters are organizational factors, beyond the individual. The librarians need to discuss their moral considerations, in the situation of encounter, at a more critical level, in order to use the best encounter tools in the meetings with the users.

En bild säger mer än tusen ord : Bibliotekariers arbete med Instagram som marknadsföringsverktyg / A picture is worth a thousand words. : Librarians work with Instagram as marketing tool.

Sundling, Frida, Ottilia, Sundahl January 2016 (has links)
Due to technological innovations, the society has new needs and expectations of the public libraries and what they offer. The web can now be seen as a competitor to the library services or as an opportunity for them to market the organization, for example through social media. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to examine how public librarians used Instagram in marketing purposes. The research questions we wanted to answer were: • What motives were there to use Instagram for marketing purposes for public libraries? • What interaction is created through marketing over Instagram? • How do librarians think of the use of Instagram in the future? The theoretical basis for the thesis is Gummessons model of the Relationshipsmarketingtheory (RM). RM focuses on the weight of relationships between organizations and their customers. For collecting data a qualitative method was used. Six librarians from three different libraries were elected for interviews. The result showed that public librarians generally had a positive attitude towards library marketing through Instagram. They wanted to show what the library could offer, establish their place in society and reach out to new users, and Instagram was a natural part of the marketing. The study showed that the interaction with library users was low, but the interaction with other libraries and their staff was higher. In the future, librarians had a positive attitude towards developing their Instagram use. Instagram would then become equated with traditional marketing, but requested more clear using guidelines. The librarians also wanted more staff to be involved in the marketing.

Mångspråksbibliotekariers kompetenser / The Competences of Multi-language Librarians

Bergholtz, Helene January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to gain greater knowledgeabout some multi-language librarians’ perception of theircompetences in the library activities that are conductedtowards people with other mother tongues than Swedish, inwhat way these competences are gained and whichcompetences they miss. The method that is used to answerthe research questions in the study is semi-structuredinterviews with four public librarians who mainly work withmulti-language activities. Lundmark’s competence model isused together with theory of the competence term to analyzethe collected data. The results that can be drawn is that themulti-language librarians in this study consider manydifferent competences to be needed in the profession, but thatthe formal education, language skills, ability to conductsurrounding analysis, personal and social competences arementioned as very important. The librarians described theirwork tasks and responsibilities as varying, which results in ademand of certain competences. The professionalcompetence is mainly obtained via university studies and canbe updated through both formal and non-formal education.Strategic competence can be further developed throughtraditional courses and regional or local competencedevelopment efforts but also through individual initiatives asnews coverage. Everyone possesses personal and socialcompetences in some form, and these competences are oftendeveloped through experiences in a person’s personal andprofessional life. The different competences are not separatedfrom each other but overlapping and completing each other.

Tre bibliotekariers uppfattningar om serier

Carlsson, Sandra, Dungert, Anna-Sara January 2011 (has links)
This bachelor´s thesis wants to look closer at librarians´ experiences of comics, manga and graphic novels. In order to bring these experiences forward qualitative interviews and the method of phenomenography was used. The material was then examend againstna theory of previous research, revealing that the problems librarians in Sweden face with these media are largely the same as the problems faced by librarians in other parts of the world. It also became clear that the participating librarians held a positive attitude to the presence of comics, manga and graphic novles in their libraries.

Attityder till deckargenren på fem svenska folkbibliotek : en kvalitativ intervjustudie / Attitudes towards crime fiction/murder mystery genre on five Swedish Libraries : a qualitative interview study

Höglund, Maria January 2015 (has links)
This master’s thesis falls under the topic of sociology in literature. The purpose is to examine what kind of attitudes that a few Swedish librarians may have to the crime fiction/murder mystery genre. The aim of this paper is also to find out if those attitudes have changed through during their working time, and if so, how they have changed. This paper is going to raise the following issues; What attitudes do librarians have to the detective genre and how has these attitudes possibly changed through the years? What does the librarian consider regarding the names that the crime fiction may have? What is the librarian's attitude to the detective genre trends and popularity, and has this changed from a backward-looking perspective? The theory of thesis is based Jofrid Karner Smidts theory about the characteristics of the librarian’s literary taste and the role of the librarian as a mediator of literature. The main method used in this thesis is qualitative interviews. In total, six librarians from five different public access libraries have been interviewed, with questions based on the devised thesis problem. All of the librarians who were interviewed had a positive attitude to the crime fiction/murder mystery genre in question. All the libraries had a special crime fiction shelf to promote the genre. The trends of the crime fiction genre are tilted towards female writers, with a growing trend in descriptive violence.

”Vi har ju vår yrkesstolthet” : Folkbibliotekariers föreställningar om samt upplevelser av folkbibliotek på entreprenad / ”We do have our professional pride” : Public librarians’ notions and experiences of the outsourcing of libraries

Lindberg, Annica January 2015 (has links)
The subject of this master thesis is the outsourcing of publiclibraries in Sweden. The purpose is to investigate theexperiences and notions that public librarians have of thephenomena of outsourcing public libraries, in relation to theirprofession and professional identity. I also investigate howtheir experiences and notions of the outsourcing of publiclibraries can be understood on a social level using GeirVestheim’s theory of the rationalities that influence culturalpolicy. The study is conducted through qualitative interviewswith six public librarians. The questions asked are: what approaches exist among publiclibrarians when it comes to the outsourcing of public libraries? Are there any connections between these approaches to theoutsourcing of public libraries and the public librarians’ selfexperienceof their professional identity? And how can theseapproaches and professional identities be understood on asocial level with the help of Vestheim’s theory of rationalitiesof cultural policy? My first conclusion is that the debate surrounding theoutsourcing of public libraries in Sweden is reflected in theway that the six interviewed librarians speak of the phenomena, but also that they express greater nuances when discussing it.The issue does not seem to be as binary as the polarized debatewould claim. My second conclusion is that the publiclibrarians’ self-experienced professional identity is notdependent on the library’s organizational form. Finally, I makethe claim that although the six public librarians have differentoutlooks on the phenomena of outsourcing public libraries, theyall share the same view of the library as an upholder ofdemocratic, cultural and social values.

Biblioteket - själens läkehus? : En studie om biblioterapi på folkbibliotek

Lindman, Cecilia, Åkerman, Pia January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine which role public libraries play or could play within bibliotherapy. The study is based on qualitative interviews with five librarians who, in one way or another have experienced bibliotherapy activities. Further, we have interviewed two treatment assistants and one counsellor, who have cooperated with the librarians, to get their view.   We have used the following research questions: Which bibliotherapeutic activities, if any, are pursued in public libraries in Sweden, and how do they look upon bibliotherapy? What role do public libraries play/could play within bibliotherapy?   Ever since the term bibliotherapy was coined in the beginning of the twentieth century, the definition has been under debate. We have identified four main subjects of discussion. They concern the client, the text, the bibliotherapist and the question whether individual or group activities are to prefer. These subjects of discussion are used as a tool for analysing the results of the interviews as to our first question. We have modified Margaret Monroe’s Bibliotherapeutic Model for Library Service and this model is used as theoretical framework when analysing our second question.   The result shows that the librarians define, and look upon bibliotherapy in different ways. They have mainly experienced bibliotherapy as a group activity. For the future, they envision various opportunities of development, one of which differs from the rest – the individual bibliotherapy service. We have identified a set of alternative activities in which the public library could play a role within bibliotherapy.
