V8 - Bibliotekssamverkan i Västerbottens inland : bibliotekariernas upplevelser efter projektavslutet

Hildingsson, Åsa January 2014 (has links)
Huvud-områden i V8 projektet.

How librarians work with the library web page to reach out to youths

Olsson, Paula, Sällström, Hanna January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study was about how librarians in Sweden work with their web page to reach young people between the ages of fifteen and nineteen. Most of the youths in Sweden today use Internet every day for several reasons, and the library should have an obvious place there as well. It shouldbe obvious because almost all youths uses Internet every day and therefore the library needs to be seen there as well to reach out to them. Earlier research has shown that librarians and youths think differently in this question. Youths think that the library web page is more important for the librarythan the librarians do.How do the librarians work with marketing for youths on the web page? Do their policy documents help them in their work?To study this area we have interviewed librarians from six quite large public libraries from different parts of thecountry. We also collected their policy documents for the library activities and goals which we analyzed through content analysis. By using a marketing theory on how to make an effective web page, to get the users to revisit and use the page, we have analyzed our results from the interviews and the content analysis. The conclusions of this study are that all the libraries work with Internet to reach out to youths, even though they workin different ways and have different opportunities to work with Internet. Not all of them work with the web page to reach out to the youths. Instead they work a lot with blogs which is an easy and free tool to use. / Program: Bibliotekarie

We have very good conditions to do so much more” : A quantitative study of sustainable development based on a Swedish public library context

Svedberg, Elin, Werme, Anna January 2022 (has links)
The work for sustainable development is something that requires a joint commitment from all countries and corners of the world, where public libraries can also contribute. This study examines how librarians perceive the conditions of public libraries in the work for sustainable development, and how the conditions need to change in order for this work to develop. The study applies a quantitative approach in the form of a questionnaire survey aimed at librarians at public libraries in Sweden, where primarily a quantitative statistical analysis but also a qualitative content analysis was performed on the collected data. Furthermore, the framework The three spheres of transformation was used to create a deeper understanding of how these conditions could be understood based on the personal, political and practical spheres. The results show that the librarians participating in this study perceive the conditions to work for sustainable development as quite good based on the finding that eight out of eleven studied factors were rated highly. The results also show that the librarians believe that all factors need to change in order for this work to develop. Thus, it can be stated that the role and work of public libraries for sustainable development has the potential to expand even more.

Professionella känslor : Bibliotekariers strategier för emotionellt arbete / Professional feelings : Librarians strategies for emotional labor

Näsman, Sandra, Tjerneld, Joel January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to illustrate the emotional labor of Swedish public librarians, find examples of strategies for emotional labor that librarians use, how personal attributes like being an introvert or an extrovert might influence these strategies and find out how guidelines and management affect the emotional labor of librarians. This is done by interviewing six public librarians who are working in different parts of Sweden, in differently sized libraries and with different amount of work experience. Our findings show that different forms of deep acting is the most common strategy for librarians and that consequences of emotional labor can depend on personality, and which strategy is used depending on this. Another finding is that management and guidelines play an important part in emotional labor. The leader should be involved in the daily tasks of the workers and should have knowledge of the situations that the worker deals with. A final conclusion is that knowledge and awareness of emotional labor can help reduce the negative consequences of emotional labor.

I want the library to be a dangerous place” : Librarians’ experiences of influence on their work roles and tasks

Jägstrand, Johan, Hedlin, Anna January 2021 (has links)
This thesis examines how librarians, in their own point of view, can and do handle influences on their daily work routines. The main focus is on whether the librarians’ experiences suggest that these influences lead to self-censorship in how media and information is acquired, handled and distributed. The contrast between the librari-ans’ actual and ideal situations, regarding their perceived freedom to act, are also examined. Seven librarians from different fields and different parts of Sweden are questioned using semi-structured interviews. The results are analyzed using models of self-censorship from Bar-Tal and Beckman as well as an influential article on selection and censorship in libraries from Asheim. A closer reading of the librarians’ stories finds four recurring themes: Perceived autonomy and freedom, Motives and context, Examples of influence and self-censorship and Ideals and reailty. The themes are analyzed in depth, with key quotes from the librarians serving as illustrations, using the aforementioned theoretical models as tools. From these analyses, the following conclusions are drawn: Preceptions of autonomy and workload in-fluence how librarians view their freedom to propose new ideas and handle media and information in accordance with their ideals. There also seems to exist a discrepancy regarding the librarians’ expected flexibility with rules and routines, leading to confusion among the librarians. Furthermore, disinclinations towards discussion in the workplace are common when the topics are controversial, such as the removal of racist material, and attempts at discussion are often ignored. Lastly, proximity to the end users also influence the librarians, leading to an increased risk of bias in selection and weeding processes. Together these things influence how librarians cope with management of collections and activities, as well as how they treat colleagues and end users, in the context of self-censorship. The conclusions, as well as their effects on librarians, libraries and society as a whole, are then discussed. This is a two years master's thesis in Library and information science.
