Nyberg, Linda, Ziganshina, Guzalia January 2016 (has links)

Svensson, Emelie, Magnusson, Evelina January 2013 (has links)
This bachelor thesis explores how librarians are portrayed in fiction literature. The aim is to see how the librarian and their work tasks are described. Our material consists of 12 fiction novels from the years 2000 to 2012 (with an exception of a book from 1998). We have used discourse analysis in order to examine the picture of the librarian. We have used three major questions: How is the librarian portrayed in our selected fiction literature from year 2000 until today (the beginning of 2013)? How are the librarians profession portrayed in our selected fiction literature? Does our selection of the fiction literature give a positive or negative image of the librarianand how can that affect the view of the profession? Our analysis resulted in the discourses the librarian and literature and the librarian and the library. Our study concludes the stereotype image of the librarian as an elderly, angry woman with her hair in a bun is slowly changing in our material. The librarian is still described as a person who lends out and retrieves books, but there are also descriptions of tasks like helping the users with Internet and relative research. The characters use both negative and positive words when they describe their profession. The librarian is strongly connected to the physical library.

Arrskog, Jennie, Block, Sandra January 2017 (has links)

”Tjejen är bibliotekarie” : En metaforanalys av biblioteks och bibliotekariers framställning i skönlitteratur för barn / ”The girl is a librarian” : A metaphor analysis of the description of libraries and librarians in fiction literature for children

Albinsson, Pia, Alsin, Erika January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to examine how libraries and librarians are represented in fiction books for children and to examine the possible implications of these representations. The study is based on an analysis of ten fiction books for children in the 6-12 age group (Hcf-Hcg), and published in Swedish between 2000 and 2016. Metaphor analysis is used as both theory and method, and the empirical material is analysed through close reading. The results are presented in an analytical scheme and model based on quotations from the books. The images of libraries and librarians that emerged in this study fit in well with the stereotypical description of librarians found in previous research. Librarians are depicted as having a special relationship with their beloved books, and are often described as proper, emotional, protective and wicked. The library also corroborates stereotypical descriptions found in previous research as boring and dark places, but also as a safe and an important institution that is likened to the Church. The old stereotype of the silent library is not so prevalent in the sample. These representations can be seen as conserving stereotype images that have little bearing on the progress of the library and the development of the library profession today. The use of metaphors is an important part of the language and impact on how we perceive the outside world. Metaphor use is a major power factor, and is likely to affect how children perceive the library.

Omvärldsbevakning på bibliotek / Business intelligence at library

Bernhardsson, Marcus January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this article is to investigate how and from which sources librarians collect information on their profession with respect to factors that are important for their work. In order to achieve this goal, a questionnaire-based survey will be conducted at three medium-sized central-public-libraries in southern Sweden. Using this survey, I wish to answer the following four questions: To what extent do librarians acquaint themselves with changes and developments within regional and cultural policy arenas important to their work? To what extent do librarians acquaint themselves with information using conferences and library debates that are focussed on changes and developments relevant to their work? Do librarians consider that they have enough time within the limits of their work hours to follow developments within the librarian profession, for example with respect to developments within information technology, and how would they appraise the future demand for information technology-based services at the library? From which source(s) do librarians collect information relevant to their work? The theoretical basis of this paper can be compared to a radar as it scans subjects-of-interest to the organization in the field of business intelligence. This investigation uses a quantitative method, with data collected via a survey consisting of 13 questions. Survey questions were drawn up in line with the purpose of this paper. The survey revealed that colleagues do play a significant part in the collection of information. Many librarians also believe that their role will continue to change as the rest of the world changes. Many also think that IT will play a more important role in the future. The respondents were 45 librarians employed on a permanent full-time basis at three similar local public-libraries. There was a 100% response rate to the survey. The results are set out in 13 different diagrams. Furthermore is the results discussed and analyzed.

“Hur når vi ut?” : Medicinska biblioteks synlighet ur ett bibliotekarie- och användarperspektiv / “How do we market ourselves?” : The visibility of medical libraries from the perspective of librarians and of users

Nilsson, Nina, Larsson, Sofia January 2023 (has links)
This thesis is about medical libraries that, foremost, serve the healthcare personnel in their evidence-based practices. The visibility aspect of these types of libraries is explored, both through a librarian’s and a user’s perspective. A theory of invisible information work is applied to understand why and how visibility affects the libraries and the librarians’ work. The visibility is also explored through a user perspective, where theories of user barriers are applied to a group of users with remote access to the medical library. The data is derived from semi-structured interviews with medical librarians, clinical librarians, and a group of healthcare personnel, and analyzed thematically through the theoretical perspectives. Furthermore, the medical library as a place is explored and discussed, which deepens the analysis and understanding of the medical libraries’ impact on the healthcare personnel and their evidence-based practices, as well as the visibility and role of the medical library. The conclusion is that the library and its services, to a large extent, are invisible to the user group, and several barriers to the users’ library access and use are detected and exemplified in the thesis. Another conclusion is that medical librarians have a range of strategies to counter the invisibility, but factors such as resources and being part of a healthcare organization affect the possibility of implementing these strategies.

Etik som en yrkeskompetens: : en studie av bibliotekariers resonemang kring etiska dilemman i mötet med användare / Ethics as a professional skill: : A study of librarians’ reasoning on ethical dilemma when meeting users

Sandahl, Magdalena January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine librarians' reasoning regarding ethical dilemmas when meeting users. The study focuses on the librarians' views of their skills in relation to the library environment, ethical problems occurring during their workdays as well as the role of ethics among the professional skills. The empirical material has been collected through conversations with seven librarians at academic libraries in western Sweden. Three scenarios were used to prompt the librarians' reactions. The material was analyzed with the help of thematic analysis metod. One major finding is that librarians find it difficult to differentiate between personal and professional ethics. Another finding is that ethics as a skill should not be overlooked even though more practical competences are valued as more important in the daily work. The study also indicates that training ethical thinking can boost professional status, help problem solving as well as raise the quality level of work.

E-boken, den välkomna besökaren : Fyra nya strategier för e-boken på folkbibliotek / The e-book, the welcome visitor : Four new strategies for the e-book at the library

Lindqvist, Frida January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to figure out the feelings that librarians felt towards the e-books at the library. And if it affects their work at the library, especially from a financial point of view. The reason I decided to do this study is because the subject of e-books has become bigger in the last couple of years, and that I got the feeling that the librarians didn’t like them that much. So I did six interviews with six different librarians from different libraries to see if they felt the same thing or if they are in fact positive towards them. The results I received from my study were that the librarians are positive to the e-book. However, they were still worried about the financial situation for example regarding the budget. I compiled the results in to four different strategies, they are in short: Firstly; the libraries are positive to the e-book. Secondly; the library is hopeful to use the e-book to increase reading for people who are struggling with reading. Thirdly; they have a close collaboration with other municipality’s and fourthly; they are welcoming the future and are exited what it will bring. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Genuskommunikation i biblioteksvärlden : hon och han i kvinnosfär / Gender communication in the library world : she and he in a female sphere

Ottosson, Annhild, Sagefjord, Göran January 1996 (has links)
The librarian profession is dominated by women. The aim with this essay is to find out howmen and women in this field get on together, and how they experience their psycho·social work situation bearing this in mind. Are there any advantages or disadvantages being a woman or a man in this profession? What do the librarians think about the future? Men and women working at five different public libraries, where the domination of women is greatest, have been interviewed. The essay is based on their opinions and experiences. The female and male librarian get on well with each other and have a good cooperation. There are not many advantages or disadvantages depending on the sex in the profession, but the image, status and salary would probably be better, if there were more men in the profession. The library must accept the ongoing information technology development - its future is depending on this.
