A study of teachers´ and librarians´ perspectives of the role of the school library in education

Andersson, Kajsa, Dunsäter, Torleif January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this paper has been to study teachers´ and librarians´ perspectives of the role of the school library in education in secondary schools. The study is based upon interviews with teachers and librarians from two different schools. We are inspired by phenomenography but we use a descriptive method and the following four parts are described in our result: the use of the school library, investigative approaches, the role of the school library and its environment and the role of the librarian. The conclusions which are evident from our research suggest the library has a fundamental role in the heart of the school. The school library is a multi-functional service used to support school studies, independent work and promote and encourage the reading of fiction. Essential to making the school library function well is professional staff, inspiring new literature and sufficient space to allow such functions to operate without disturbing each other. : En funktionell textanalys av folkbiblioteks webbaserade sökguider / Do you think it is tricky to use the library services? : A functional text analysis of public libraries' web-based search guides

Videfrost, Anna January 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how information seeking processes, librarians and users are formed and constructed in web-based search guides ofpublic libraries. Questions raised are: How are information seekingprocesses presented in the search guides? How do libraries and librariansappear in the texts? How are users presented in the search guides? The thesis analyses web-based search guides from two large public libraries insouthern Sweden, eight texts in total. The texts are analysed through asystemic functional text analysis based on ideational meta-functions,interpersonal meta-functions and also register and context.Based on the textual analysis, effects and consequences of the design andformulation of the texts are discussed. Theories and previous research aboutinformation literacy, user education and expertise are used. Mainly fourdifferent approaches to user education are identified to further clarify anddeepen the discussion. The conclusion is that the design of web-based search guides hasconsequences for how information seeking processes, libraries and librariansand users are shaped and created in the web-based search guides.

: En studie om förändring och förvandling / When the public library becomes a public library in the Culture Center : A study of change and transformation

Svensson, Catarina January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to study what happens to the librarian and it´s profession at the public library when it is developed or converted into a Library and Cultural center. This study take bearing on how the librarian experience the difference in working at a public library and a Library and Culture Center. The method used is a semi-structured qualitative interview, and the theoretical framework is Andrew Abbott's System of Profession. The material consists of interviews with five librarians who previously worked in a public library and subsequently in Library and Cultural Center. The findings of the study show that librarians have a positive attitude towards working in a Library and Culture Center and that they to some degree still work with traditional tasks. However, the work in Library and Culture Centers have changed in the sense that it consist of working with programs, e.g. music and author events. Additionally, public education and a closer collaboration with the end user. The study also revealed that the librarians believe in an increase need for more up-to-date knowledge on new technology as a consequence of the user’s new demands and wishes. Furthermore, adding various community services is part of the integration of public libraries and Library and Culture Centers, making it a large meeting-place for the local residents.

: The support group as a bookreading circle for adult children of drug addicts

Fredriksson, Pernilla January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this Master’s Thesis is to find out whether bibliotherapy, in an unspokenform, is practiced in already existing group formations to be able to determine how practicalbibliotherapy can be seen in a Swedish context and thereby open the possibility for development. To fulfil this purpose I decided to do a case study on a nearby book reading circle for adultchildren of drug addicts. I made three qualitative interviews; two of the mentioned book readingcircle’s leaders and one participant/help leader. I used the following set of questions: What isincluded in the concept Bibliotherapy and how does that relate to practice? How has the bookreading circle examined in this case study proceeded, which methods were used and what kind ofliterature has been used and also what kind of effects did this reading circle have on itsparticipants. Can the library/librarian interact in any way in this type of external book readingcircles? I also studied theoretical work on bibliotherapy, as well as various theories on supportgroups and book reading circles, of which I presented a selection of in this thesis. Thistheoretical framework was the basis for my analysis of the result, which showed that theintention of the book reading circle had been consistent with its implementation; the methodsused were in line with the ones of the support groups’ standards and the literature they used wasnonfiction with a content directed especially towards the group’s main problem; the effects thebook reading activities had on the group participants were in line with how developmentalbibliotherapy is described being performed in a Swedish context , and finally; the informants’attitudes towards collaborating with a library/librarian were mainly positive. Thereby, all myquestions were answered and my conclusion is that this case study represents a number of othersupport groups/book reading circles and there would be a mutual benefit if a future collaborationwith the library was established.

Flygh Johansson, Linda, Häggroth, Nicole January 2018 (has links)

: – The implications of the professionalization of librarians and their professional status

Westerdahl, Diana January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to develop knowledge about the professionalization development of the librarians in Sweden and what it has resulted in, mainly in terms of professional status. What has been the content of the professionalization agenda for the librarians? Is professionalization an efficient way forward in order to enhance the status of the profession? The thesis suggests that probably there are other methods to be explored in order to increase the status of the librarians.

Tillgänglighet bland hyllorna : En kvalitativ studie av bibliotekens tillgänglighetsarbete / Access among the shelfs : A qualitative study of the library´s accessibiblity work

Algroth, Annika January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of how Swedish libraries work with the mission of accessibility for people with disabilities. This qualitative study tries to extend the knowledge by examining how six Swedish libraries use their resources for people with disabilities and how the libraries interpret the guidelines set by the government and organizations. As each library has its own routines around this work the libraries have to prioritize according to need and opportunity. It is of interest to see various aids in the work progress taking action at the libraries in this study. Do the libraries work in a structured and similar way when working for people with disabilities?  How do libraries plan their resources?  Who makes and how are the decisions made when prioritizing resources for people with disabilities? Based on earlier research the study looks for these answers using a semi structured interview guide. The study uses Bucklands barrier theory to focus on the areas of work and disabilities. The results in this study show that resources are the main barrier for a more active way of working with people with disabilities. The resources include allocating time for working with disabilities, funding and having enough staff to be able to focus on the library users with disabilities.

Plagiering på högskolan. : Orsaker och förebyggande åtgärder / Plagiarism in higher education. : Causes and preventive measures

Karlsson Atencio, Anette January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to illustrate the causes of plagiarism in higher education and to discuss possible preventive measures against plagiarism. The study is basedon documents containing students´ explanations when being accused of plagiarism before the disciplinary board, as well as on interviews with staff in two colleges/universities in Sweden. This material is analysed with a qualitative approach, and the theoretical lenses used are ethics and information literacy. The result shows that the most common causes of plagiarism according to the students themselves are lack of knowledge, a problematic private situation or that somebody external is to blame. In some cases, several factors coincide. A number of preventive measures are suggested, such as emphasizing the values of the academic tradition, cooperation between different groups of staff and a more prominent role for the teachers in this work. The discussion brings up the different roles of librarians and teachers, and sheds light on the need for future research on how to further clarify the boundaries between the professions as well as their common ground.

Den osynliga bibliotekarien : En studie av hur bibliotekarien representeras / The Invisible Librarian : A Study of Librarian Representation

Anklev, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
This paper aims to explore the librarian’s visibility on public library websites. This is done by locating the words “librarian” and “library” on randomly chosen library websites using a search service to contrast the word frequency against each other. To further explore the visibility of the librarian keywords representing competencies will be collected using Ørom’s theory of professional identities as coding scheme. The results show that the word “librarian” is mentioned significantly less frequent than the word “library”. All of Ørom’s professional identities were identified within the examined websites in four different contexts. The difference in word frequency is one that has the prospect to diminish the librarian in relation to the library as a place, thus rendering the profession less significant than the institution itself. While all professional identities were confirmed to exist within the websites it is highly possible that the keywords do not accurately or clearly convey the responsibilities of the librarian. Further research is recommended to better confirm the visibility of the librarian.
