Evaluation of Approaches for Representation and Sentiment of Customer Reviews / Utvärdering av tillvägagångssätt för representation och uppfattning om kundrecensionerGiorgis, Stavros January 2021 (has links)
Classification of sentiment on customer reviews is a real-world application for many companies that offer text analytics and opinion extraction on customer reviews on different domains such as consumer electronics, hotels, restaurants, and car rental agencies. Natural Language Processing’s latest progress has seen the development of many new state-of-the-art approaches for representing the meaning of sentences, phrases, and words in the text using vector space models, so-called embeddings. In this thesis, we evaluated the most current and most popular text representation techniques against traditional methods as a baseline. The evaluation dataset consists of customer reviews from different domains with different lengths used by a text analysis company. Through a train dataset exploration, we evaluated which datasets were the most suitable for this specific task. Furthermore, we explored different techniques that could be used to alter a language model’s decisions without retraining it. Finally, all the methods were evaluated against their time performance and the resource requirements to present an overall experimental assessment that could potentially help the company decide which is the most appropriate technique to replace its system in a production environment.

Capacity estimates and Poincaré inequalities for the weighted bow-tieChristensen, Andreas January 2017 (has links)
We give a short introduction to various concepts related to the theory of p-harmonic functions on Rn, and some modern generalizations of these concepts to general metric spaces. The article Björn-Björn-Lehrbäck [6] serves as the starting point of our discussion. In [6], among other things, estimates of the variational capacity for thin annuli in metric spaces are given under the assumptions of a Poincaré inequality and an annular decay property. Most of the parameters in the various results of the article are proven to be sharp by counterexamples at the end of the article. The main result of this thesis is the verification of the sharpness of a parameter. At the center of our discussion will be a concrete metric subspace of weighted Rn, namely the so-called weighted bow-tie, where the weight function is assumed to be radial. A similar space was used in [6] to verify the sharpness of several parameters. We show that under the assumption that the variational p-capacity is nonzero for any ball centered at the origin, the p-Poincaré inequality holds in Rn if and only if it holds on the corresponding bow-tie Finally, we consider a concrete weight function, show that it is a Muckenhoupt A1 weight, and use this to construct a counterexample establishing the sharpness of the parameter in the above mentioned result from [6].

Rebel rivers : an investigation into the river rights of indigenous people of Canada and New ZealandStrack, Michael S, n/a January 2008 (has links)
In Canada and New Zealand there are increasing calls for recognition of aboriginal rights which previously were ignored or denied because of the application of English law to concepts of property rights and ownership. English legal principles are vitally important in Canadian and New Zealand society, but there has always been room for local adaptations which could have recognised the existing practices and rights of the indigenous peoples.
The English law makes various assumptions about ownership of rivers, dividing them into bed, banks and water, and applying various tests of adjoining occupation, tidalness and navigability to determine rights. Aboriginal property rights have been guaranteed and protected by various mechanisms such as government policy, treaty, and the courts, but there is uncertainty about the status of rivers. The form of the survey definition of reserves and rivers is also fundamental to how property rights may be determined. This thesis examines the situation of rivers in Canada and New Zealand through common law, treaty provisions and through what is now, a developing body of applicable and recognised customary/Aboriginal law. From these three legal foundations, a case study approach focuses on the practical situation of the Siksika people on the Bow River in southern Alberta, and the Kai Tahu on the Taieri River in Otago.
This investigation concludes that there are various legal mechanisms by which indigenous people may claim rights to the rivers with which they have a relationship; by resorting to English common law principles; by applying new and developing conceptualisations of customary and aboriginal rights doctrines; by appealing to tribunals examining treaty agreements; or by direct negotiation with the Crown. All of these processes require evidence of past and current relationships, use and occupation of rivers by the indigenous claimants. Current undisputed possession and control may be a satisfactory outcome, but ultimately an acknowledgement of ownership may depend on politically negotiated settlements.

Mechanics and acoustics of violin bowing : Freedom, constraints and control in performanceSchoonderwaldt, Erwin January 2009 (has links)
This thesis addresses sound production in bowed-string instruments from two perspectives: the physics of the bowed string, and bow control in performance. Violin performance is characterized by an intimate connection between the player and the instrument, allowing for a continuous control of the sound via the main bowing parameters (bow velocity, bow force and bow-bridge distance), but imposing constraints as well. In the four included studies the focus is gradually shifted from the physics of bow-string interaction to the control exerted by the player. In the first two studies the available bowing parameter space was explored using a bowing machine, by systematically probing combinations of bow velocity, bow force and bow-bridge distance. This allowed for an empirical evaluation of the maximum and minimum bow force required for the production of a regular string tone, characterized by Helmholtz motion. Comparison of the found bow-force limits with theoretical predictions by Schelleng revealed a number of striking discrepancies, in particular regarding minimum bow force. The observations, in combination with bowed-string simulations, provided new insights in the mechanism of breakdown of Helmholtz motion at low bow forces. In the second study the influence of the main bowing parameters on aspects of sound quality was analyzed in detail. It was found that bow force was totally dominating the control of the spectral centroid, which is related to the perceived brightness of the tone. Pitch flattening could be clearly observed when approaching the upper bow-force limit, confirming its role as a practical limit in performance. The last two studies were focused on the measurement of bowing gestures in violin and viola performance. A method was developed for accurate and complete measurement of the main bowing parameters, as well as the bow angles skewness, inclination and tilt. The setup was used in a large performance study. The analyses revealed clear strategies in the use of the main bowing parameters, which could be related to the constraints imposed by the upper and lower bow-force limits and pitch flattening. Further, it was shown that two bow angles (skewness and tilt) were systematically used for controlling dynamic level; skewness played an important role in changing bow-bridge distance in crescendo and diminuendo notes, and tilt was used to control the gradation of bow force. Visualizations and animations of the collected bowing gestures revealed significant features of sophisticated bow control in complex bowing patterns. / QC 20100809

Dynamika okolozemní rázové vlny a magnetopauzy / Dynamics of the bow shock and magnetopauseJelínek, Karel January 2012 (has links)
viii Title: Dynamics of the bow shock and magnetopause Author: Karel Jelínek Department: Department of Surface and Plasma Science Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Zdeněk Němeček, DrSc. Department of Surface and Plasma Science e-mail address: zdenek.nemecek@mff.cuni.cz Abstract: The interplanetary space is a unique laboratory which allows us to dis- cover (i) a behavior of the plasma under different conditions, (ii) origin of its insta- bilities, and (iii) its interaction with obstacles such as the Earth's magnetosphere. The present thesis analyzes the outer Earth's magnetosphere. The results are based on the in situ sensing by a variety of the spacecraft (e.g., IMP-8, INTERBALL-1, MAGION-4, Geotail, Cluster-II and Themis). The solar wind curently monitored by the WIND and ACE spacecraft near the La- grange point L1 affects by its dynamic pressure the Earth's magnetic field which acts as a counter-pressure and the boundary where these pressures are balanced is the magnetopause. Due to supersonic solar wind speed, the bow shock forms in front of the magnetopause and a region in between, where plasma flows around an obstacle is named the magnetosheath. The thesis contributes to a deaper understanding of the dependence of magnetopause and bow shock shapes and positions, especially, (1) on the orientation of the inter-...
