Exercise, self-perceptions and mood during pregnancy

The general purpose of this research was to investigate physical activity levels as a correlate of selected aspects of psychological health among pregnant women. Specifically, the aims of the study were (1) to provide a cross-sectional description of changes in physical self-concept, mood, and perceived stress during pregnancy; (2) to evaluate physical activity patterns of pregnant women over time during pregnancy; and (3) to determine if there is a difference between physical activity and physical self-concept, mood, perceived stress and/or burnout symptoms during pregnancy. Participants were pregnant women from various antenatal clinics at King Edward Memorial Hospital. The women completed a questionnaire package containing questions on physical activity levels and measures of physical self-concept, social physique anxiety, perceived stress, mood and burnout symptoms. A series of ANOVAs was used to provide a descriptive profile of how these psychological variables change during the course of pregnancy. Significant time-related differences were found for the perceived health subscale of the PSDQ and the tension subscale for the BRUMS. Findings also suggested a significant association between physical activity, and physical self-perceptions, most importantly self-esteem. Higher levels of physical activity were also found to be closely related to positive mood states, lower levels of perceived stress and fewer burnout symptoms. No significant association was found between physical activity and social physique anxiety.

Empathy of Workers in Helping Professions The term empathy means the ability to understand emotions of other people. It is the person´s ability to understand the mental condition of the other person with whom he or she is in immediate contact. Such understanding makes it possible to understand emotions, thinking, acting, behavior and attitudes of other people. To empathize with someone the person needs to efficiently focus and concentrate on the other person and to have the sufficient will to do so. Empathy is a complex psychological experience. The objective of the thesis is to determine whether the attitudes to empathy and experience of difficulties associated with empathy are different among personal assistants and nurses. The research was conducted among personal assistants operating in the district of České Budějovice and among nurses working in the hospital in Jindřichův Hradec. The respondents were of diverse ages with a different representation of men and women. The method of the research was inquiry with a questionnaire technique. I formulated three hypotheses in total. All the hypotheses have been confirmed by the completed research. The thesis may be used as a source of information for the general public, as well as for teaching purposes.

In the theoretical part concepts related to history and the intensity of teaching, teachers and related mental stress health risks. are characterized. We also deal with the influence of physical activity on human health, and the ability to reduce the occurrence of various health risks. The aim of the thesis is to monitor physical activity among teachers in kindergarten, Basic school, including school with small classes and high school. It is assessed on the basis of a standardized questionnaire IPAQ-long and by monitoring using pedometers Yamax Digiwalker SW 700th The results found physical activity are compared with recommendations for physical activity and divided into categories according to the classification PA Tudor-Locke and Bassett.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the experience of nurses with burnout syndrome and its prevention. In order to this, I have been examining a number of nurses who have experienced burnout syndrome, the level of intensity they experienced and the nurses' opinion on the prevention of this psychical state. The theoretical part will focus on the nurses' job description and psychological stresses related to their duties. Furthermore I will focus on burnout syndrome - its risk factors, causes, stages and prevention. I will inform as well about daily course and operations at the Intensive Care Unit and the standard inpatient department. The empirical part focuses on comparing the level of burnout syndrome of nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit versus those working in the standard inpatient department. Furthermore I am examining the experience of nurses with the burnout syndrome and its prevention. I will use a questionnaire as the research method.

This diploma thesis deals with psychical burden and its coping in the profession of social workers at the Labour Office. Thesis approaching the values and basics upon which is the built contemporary social work. It deals with the role and work of the social worker at the Labour Office, including assumptions and competencies for the exercise of this profession. More deeply it deals with specific and to current issues and sources of psychical burden with which the most frequently encounter the social workers at the Labour Office. It also describes the consequences of psychical burden such as stress, fatigue, exhaustion and burnout syndrome. The thesis brings for performing this profession a preview of the influence of psychical burden on health of social workers on their work performance, work satisfaction, life satisfaction and motivation. In conclusion thesis brings a preview of the possible techniques and coping strategies of psychical burden. With the help of research probes the aim of this thesis is analyze, psychical burden of social workers in the Labour Office with which the exercise of the profession related, including possibilities to cope with the psychical burden.

The thesis title is Supervision as a Form of Support in the Helping Professions. The translation of the term of supervision is an insight or inspection into a particular problem. Unfortunately, there are still facilities in which supervision is rather considered as inspection. Currently, there is an effort to prove the usefulness of supervision. To the introduction of supervision as part of good practice for workers in helping professions contributes the document issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs ?Quality Standards for Social Care Services". Especially in helping professions, this topic is an up-to-date subject and supervision is becoming an integral part of functioning of many institutions. In the theoretical section the basic terms such as stress and burnout in helping professions, supervision, its forms, goals and tools are defined. It deals with the supervision process, supervision contract and quality standards for social care services. The practical part consists of a qualitative research. The research was conducted in five organizations in České Budějovice. The information collection was carried out using interrogation techniques, semi-structured interviews with supervised workers, supervisors, and supervision contracting authorities. The objective of the thesis was to identify whether the supervised persons consider supervision to have a supportive or another function. The data were compiled into case reports and the common points compared. The research has found that supervision does provide most respondents with some kind of support. In addition to its supporting function, supervision is seen as having an educational function. The research results document views of supervised persons on supervision, which may be beneficial for contracting authorities, supervisors and the whole organizations. The results may also serve for a better orientation in the issue of supervision.

Attention is devoted to theoretical concepts of job satisfaction and motivation, along with job satisfaction in psychological and performance-related context and surveys on teachers' job satisfaction. The empirical investigation is based on the theories of work motivation and research into teachers' job satisfaction. Quantitative assessment of job satisfaction among the teachers of Secondary Police Schools and Police Colleges of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic is conducted with the use of the Teachers' Satisfaction Assessment Inventory in order to evaluate the teachers' overall job satisfaction and its relation to selected variables, especially of extrapersonal character.

Thesis is focused on aspects of nursing care in a child hematooncology and their impact on nurses. Cancer by children in the Czech Republic are the second leading cause of death in childhood. The incidence of childhood cancer has increased at the beginning of the second half of last century by about 1 % per year, but since the late 80 years is no longer apparent increase in incidence. Tumors in children most often arise in hematopoietic tissue and ranks at the top of the various types of tumors in children. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the problems in each chapter hematooncology children, hospitalized child and his needs, the role of nurses, mental and physical workload, burnout and mental hygiene. The practical part was the task of verifying three goals. The first objective was to find out the specifics of children's nurses work hematooncology. The second objective was to find out what demands are made for nurses working in child hematooncology. The third objective was to find out how nurses working in this department handle mental stress. To achieve the objective method was used qualitative research project, in the form of two half standardized interview and standardized questionnaires. The research sample consisted of thirteen nurses working on the unit hematoonklogie children. Of which there were three sisters from České Budějovice Hospital, two nurses from University Hospital Motol in Prague, five sisters from the University Hospital Brno and three nurses from University Hospital Olomouc. It emerged from research that nurses consider the work of the department for children hematooncology very professional. The specifics of their department nurses find different ways. The greatest majority of respondents consider the specifics of the presence of parents in the nursing department, long-term hospitalization of children and work with cytostatics. Demands on the work of nurses according to their testimony are significant. Their work places increased demands on the skills and manual dexterity. They consider the greatest burden as the psychological burden, especially in the care of a child with end stage, and his subsequent death. The interviews revealed that most nurses in the department are satisfied. They consider their work is very diverse and specific. The output of the thesis will be creating a Power Point presentation (Annax n. 7) that will be used as presentation material at the Fifth International Conference on Present and Future of Nursing and Midwifery, which will be held on 6 - 7 September 2012 in the České Budějovice. It is planned to make these materials and technical paper subsequently published in peer-reviewed medical journal with the theme.

Pomoc versus kontrola sociálních pracovníků v praxi / Practical assistance versus control by social workers in practice

Topic of this diploma thesis is the usage of professional methods of assistance and control applied by social workers in practice. Theoretical part consists of a description of history of assistance and control in social work area, assistance and control in the context of a systematic approach and the risk of abusing of power by social workers while realising controls of clients. Furthermore, the diploma thesis mentions the helper syndrome and the occupational burnout syndrome that is common in social professions and, in connection to that, the importance of maintaining a certain psycho-hygiene and the significance of supervision. The aim of this diploma thesis is the monitoring of professional work methods of assistance and control by social workers directly engaged with the clients. In accordance with this goal, there were three research questions established relating the goal of the diploma thesis. Social workers answered questions questioning them how they use the assistance and control in the direct engagement with the clients and how they perceive the distinction between the assistance and control in their practical experience. In order to achieve the goal, there was used a qualitative research that was implemented by using the method of a semi-structured interview. Data analysis was evaluated by using the method of the categorization of data. In conclusion, it can be stated that the goal of the diploma thesis, alongside with the research questions, were achieved. Based on the results, two hypotheses were established. The first one is that social workers are not aware of the professional work methods of control and assistance in practice, the second is that the unfamiliarity with these methods causes less effectivity level of their performance. Outcomes of this diploma thesis may be used as a study material for a theoretical teaching and as a feedback for social workers as this diploma thesis brings the information about which work methods they are using in their practice.

SB is considered a serious public health problem and the teaching profession is a category of risk, because it has a strong incidence of elements that lead to the syndrome, which is characterized by four dimensions: illusion for work; Psychic wear; Sloth and guilt. Quality of life, in turn, adds aspects that are associated with the environment, conditions and work organization. Therefore, the importance of studying its association with SB. Objectives: to analyze the association of Burnout Syndrome and Quality of Life in university health professors; Characterize the social, demographic and professional conditions of university professors in the health area; To investigate the dimensions of Burnout Syndrome, according to the CESQT, in university health professors; To verify how university professors perceive quality of life, according to WHOWOL-bref; Investigate how the university professors participating in the study are affected by Burnout Syndrome. Methodology: This was a causal research, with a quantitative approach, with 178 teachers from the Health Sciences Center (CCS) and 105 from the Center of Medical Sciences (CCM), whose sample was obtained by stratified sampling technique with proportional allocation And the collection made through random sampling technique for accessibility. In order to do so, validated questionnaires were used in Brazil: Questionnaire for the identification of Burnout Syndrome - "Questionnaire for the Evolution of Burning Syndrome by the Work-SCQT-PE" and the Quality of Life Questionnaire - WHOQOL-bref. For data analysis, the recommendations described in the instrument manuals were followed. Thus, the test of association (chi-square) between the dimensions of burnout and the domains of quality of life was performed. Results: 46 (25.8%) individuals with burnout symptoms were found in CCS and 33 (31.4%) were found in CCM. In general, CCS teachers perceive quality of life as good, while CCM teachers rated it as a regular grade. In addition, the illusion of work and guilt dimensions were significantly associated with the components of quality of life, thus demonstrating the strong influence of this on the composition of the syndrome symptoms. Conclusion: SB is a problem among university professors in the health area and interferes in the quality of life of these professionals. It is recommended to rethink the organization of teaching work with a view to preventing this phenomenon that can affect the physical, mental and social health of individuals, bringing negative consequences for the institution regarding the educational process. / Introducción: El síndrome de Burnout (BS) es un fenómeno psicosocial provocado por el ejercicio de un trabajo, lo que genera estrés permanente en el individuo, a partir de una tensión emocional constante y repetitivo relacionado con las actividades diarias, principalmente los profesionales que trabajan en contacto directo con la gente . La SB se considera un problema grave de salud pública y la profesión docente es una categoría de riesgo, debido a su alta incidencia de elementos que conducen al síndrome, que se caracteriza por cuatro dimensiones: la ilusión en el trabajo; desgaste psíquico; la indolencia y la culpa. La calidad de vida, a su vez, añade características que se asocian con los propios del entorno, las condiciones y organización del trabajo. Por lo tanto, la importancia de estudiar su asociación con el SB. Objetivos: Analizar la asociación entre el síndrome de burnout y la calidad de vida de los profesores universitarios de la salud; caracterizar los profesores sociales, demográficas y de la universidad de profesionales de la salud; investigar las dimensiones del síndrome de desgaste, según el OSE en el mundo académico de la salud; comprobar cómo los profesores perciben la calidad de vida, de acuerdo con WHOWOL-BREF; investigan cómo los participantes del estudio universitario maestros se ven afectados por el síndrome de burnout. Metodología: Se trata de una investigación causal con un enfoque cuantitativo, realizado con 178 maestros en el Centro de Ciencias de la Salud (SCC) y 105 del Centro de Ciencias Médicas (CCM), cuya muestra se obtuvo mediante la técnica de muestreo estratificado con asignación proporcional y la colección lleva a cabo mediante la técnica de muestreo aleatorio para la accesibilidad. Con este fin, se utilizaron cuestionarios validados en Brasil: Cuestionario para identificar el síndrome de Burnout - "Cuestionario a su Evolución del síndrome de quemarse por el Trabajo -CESQT-PE" y el Cuestionario de Calidad de Vida - WHOQOL-BREF. Para el análisis de datos, seguido las recomendaciones descritas en los manuales de los instrumentos. Por lo tanto, se realizó la prueba de asociación (chi-cuadrado) entre las dimensiones de burnout y dominios de calidad de vida. Resultados: Se encontraron 46 (25,8%) pacientes con síntomas de agotamiento en CCS y 33 (31,4%) en el MCP. En general, los maestros de CCS tienen la percepción de la calidad de vida clasificada como buena, mientras que los maestros del MCP clasifican como regular. Además, las dimensiones y el fallo ilusión trabajo mostraron una asociación significativa con la calidad de vida de los componentes, lo que demuestra la fuerte influencia de la composición de los síntomas del síndrome. Conclusión: La SB es un problema entre los profesores universitarios de la salud e interfiere con la calidad de vida de estos profesionales. Se recomienda volver a examinar la forma del entorno de enseñanza con el fin de prevenir este fenómeno que puede afectar a la salud física, mental y social de los individuos, trayendo consecuencias negativas para la institución y el proceso educativo. / Introdução: A Síndrome de Burnout (SB) é um fenômeno psicossocial desencadeado pelo exercício do trabalho, que gera estresse permanente no indivíduo, proveniente de uma constante e repetitiva pressão emocional relacionada às atividades cotidianas, principalmente em profissionais que trabalham em contato direto com as pessoas. A SB é considerada um sério problema de Saúde Pública e a profissão docente constitui uma categoria de risco, por apresentar forte incidência de elementos que conduzem à síndrome, que se caracteriza por quatro dimensões: ilusão pelo trabalho; desgaste psíquico; indolência e culpa. A qualidade de vida, por sua vez, agrega aspectos que estão associados ao próprio ambiente, condições e organização do trabalho. Por isso, a importância de estudar a sua associação com a SB. Objetivos: analisar a associação da Síndrome de Burnout e a Qualidade de Vida em professores universitários da área de saúde; caracterizar as condições sociais, demográficas e profissionais de professores universitários da área da saúde; investigar as dimensões da Síndrome de Burnout, segundo o CESQT, em professores universitários da área de saúde; verificar como os professores universitários percebem a qualidade de vida, segundo o WHOWOL-bref; investigar como os professores universitários participantes do estudo são afetados pela Síndrome de Burnout. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa causal, com abordagem quantitativa, realizada com 178 docentes do Centro de Ciências da Saúde (CCS) e 105 do Centro de Ciências Médicas (CCM), cuja amostra foi obtida pela técnica de amostragem estratificada com alocação proporcional e a coleta realizada através da técnica de amostragem aleatória por acessibilidade. Para tanto, foram utilizados questionários validados no Brasil: Questionário para identificação da Síndrome de Burnout – “Cuestionario para la Evolución del Síndrome de Quemarse por el trabajo -CESQT-PE” e o Questionário sobre Qualidade de Vida – WHOQOL-bref. Para a análise dos dados, seguiram-se as recomendações descritas nos manuais dos instrumentos. Dessa forma, foi realizado o teste de associação (qui-quadrado) entre as dimensões de burnout e os domínios de qualidade de vida. Resultados: foram encontrados 46 (25,8%) indivíduos com sintomas de burnout no CCS e 33 (31,4%) no CCM. Em geral, os professores do CCS têm a percepção quanto à qualidade de vida classificada como boa, ao passo que os docentes do CCM a classificaram como regular. Além disso, as dimensões ilusão pelo trabalho e culpa apresentaram associação significativa com os componentes para qualidade de vida, demonstrando, assim, a forte influência desta na composição dos sintomas da síndrome. Conclusão: a SB constitui um problema entre os docentes universitários da área de saúde e interfere na qualidade de vida desses profissionais.
