Rela??es filogen?ticas entre os golfinhos da fam?lia Delphinidae : mammalia : cetacea

At? o presente momento s?o reconhecidos 17 g?neros e pelo menos 37 esp?cies. A diversidade e a presente abund?ncia de delfin?deos est? relacionada com a r?pida evolu??o que provavelmente ocorreu no Plioceno. A abrupta radia??o dos delfin?deos durante o Plioceno ? um fenomeno not?vel na evolu??o dos cet?ceos. Durante este per?odo, um decl?nio global da temperatura pode ter resultado em mudan?as de habitats e na substitui??o dos kentriodontideos pelo delfin?deos modernos. At? o presente momento n?o existe consenso sobre as divis?es dentro dos Delfin?deos e a utilizacao atual das distintas subfam?lias tem sido baseada em Delphinus (Delphininae), Steno (Steninae), Lissodelphis (Lissodolphinae), Cephalorhynchus (Cephalorhynchinae), e Globicephala (Globicephalinae). Estes grupos est?o baseados principalmente em julgamentos fen?ticos de apenas uma linha de evid?ncia (e.g. m?sculos nasofaciais seios da regi?o do basicr?nio, ou timpanoperi?ticos) e tem resultado em classifica??es contradit?rias. Neste estudo, 147 caracteres morfol?gicos de 42 esp?cies de odontocetos recentes foram codificados atrav?s do exame direto dos exemplares. O grupo interno contou com o total de 35 diferentes OTUs (31 esp?cies + 3 subesp?cies + 1 popula??o) Todos os 17 g?neros de delfin?deos estiveram representados com pelo menos uma esp?cie na presente analise. Esta ? a primeira tentativa de produzir uma an?lise clad?sitica dos delfinideos utilizando morfologia com uma abrangente base de dados (cr?nio timpanoperi?ticos rnorfologia externa e colorac?o). Aproximadamente 57 caracteres s?o originais deste estudo. A analise da matriz com 147 caracteres e 43 t?xons resultou em quatro ?rvores mais parcimoniosas de iguais tamanhos com o comprimento de 1034 passos. A ?rvore do consenso estrito revelou duas politomias. A primeira envolve as rela??es entre as tr?s fam?lias de Deiphinoidea (Monodontidae Phocoenidae e Delphinidae) e a outra refere-se as rela??es de Lagenorhynchus acutus dentro de Delphinidae. A monofilia das tr?s fam?lias do Deiphinoidea foi comprovada. As fam?lias Monodontidae e Phocoenidae foram corroboradas com cinco sinapomorfias exclusivas cada, enquanto a fam?lia Delphinidae por quatro. Neste estudo demonstrou-se que os blackfish formam um grupamento polifil?tico que deve ser dividido em tr?s subfam?lias (Orcininae Orcaellinae e a nova subfarnilia) Uma outra nova subfamilia Lagenorhynchinae, deve ser criada, para Lagenorhynchus albirostris. Neste estudo, a monofilia do Lissodelphininao foi tamb?m registrada com 10 esp?cies em tr?s g?neros. Neste estudo, um bom suporte para Steninae foi encontrado, com Sousa CL profundamente agrupado nesta subfam?lia. Leucopleurus acutus agrupou-se na subfam?lia Delphinidae. A subfam?lia Delphininae deve incluir apenas os g?neros Deiphinus, Leucopleurus, Lagenodelphis, Stenella, Stenella Iongirostris o Tursiops. Os resultados obtidos atrav?s da morfologia s?o promissores. Este estudo demonstrou que uma analise clad?stica abrangente pode ajudar a entender as conturbadas rela??es entre os delfinideos.

Investigating Reading Strategies in the CET-6 Reading Comprehension Test for Chinese Non-English Major Students

Although substantial research has been conducted into reading strategies, the difference between the reading strategies the students think they learn in class and the reading strategies the teacher considers she teaches is given little critical attention in the academic world. This study aims to investigate the relationship between non-English major students’ application of seven reading strategies for the CET-6 test and the teacher’s formal instruction in these with a view to improving teaching practices at university level.   A reading comprehension test and a questionnaire were given to 16 non-English major sophomore graduate students to establish what reading strategies are most and least utilized by students. A questionnaire was also presented to the teacher to ascertain what reading strategies she had taught. It is established that there are differences in the students’ and the teacher’s perceptions of what reading strategies have been taught and their suitability in the CET-6 reading comprehension text.

Étude génétique de "Jeannot-la-Corneille" de Gabrielle Roy

Researchers currently are according a great deal of importance to the genetic analysis of Gabrielle Roy's writings. Indeed, the author's manuscripts reveal important details about her creative process. In this thesis, we study the changes the author made to both style and content at different stages of the writing of "Jeannot-la-Corneille", one of the recits making up Cet ete qui chantait. The latter is one of Roy's least studied books. Our analysis of the modifications the author made to the content and style of her texts allows us to understand the reasons behind these changes and gives us as well a sense of Gabrielle Roy's creative work. Admired for the apparent ease with which she writes, the author reworks her text tirelessly in order to achieve the desired effects: precision, accuracy and musicality. Adjectives, adverbs, nouns, all parts of speech are subject to change in this quest to improve descriptions and, in so doing, deliver more effectively a message of hope.

A Navigation Mesh-Based Pathfinding Implmentation in CET Designer : An Alternative to a Waypoint Graph-Based Solution

This thesis details the implementation of a navigation mesh within the interior space planning software CET Designer. The motivation for this is to investigate whether a navigation mesh is a suitable alternative to its current path finding solution which is based on a waypoint graph. An empirical analysis between the navigation mesh and the waypoint graph was also conducted. A navigation mesh is successfully implemented and an alternative triangulation method is also tested. The alternative method which is referred to as "narrowest first-ear clipping" seems to create a navigation mesh that produces slightly shorter paths than a navigation mesh that utilizes an arbitrary triangulation method. It is argued that the navigation mesh alleviates much work from the user since it requires less user input. The mesh is also able to generate paths between any two given points within it. This makes it much more dynamic than the waypoint graph. The conducted analysis shows that the navigation mesh seems to generate paths that are generally shorter than the waypoint graph. The path generation time for the navigation mesh is on average slower than the waypoint graph. We failed to provide an environment where the navigation mesh was faster on average than the waypoint graph. However, the time difference between the navigation mesh and the waypoint graph seemed to reduce as the test environment size increased.

Procedural Textures in CET : Investigating the feasibility of implementing procedural textures in CET / Procedurell texturgenerering i CET

Applications with 3D graphics often utilize high-resolution image textures to enhance re-alism. Image textures are stored as large files, which can result in significant storage spaceallocation for the application. Furthermore, image textures are also disadvantaged becausethey are static and lack flexibility. These issues could be addressed through the use of pro-cedurally generated textures, referred to as procedural textures. The thesis explored andinvestigated the feasibility of implementing procedural textures in Configura’s 3D interiordesign software CET. A procedural texture was implemented that showcased many posi-tive attributes of procedural textures, including: reduced storage space requirements, un-limited resolution, and versatile customization. To accomplish this, an iterative approachwas used as the methodology, where the procedural texture was gradually incorporatedinto CET. The procedural texture later underwent a performance evaluation. The resultsshowed that traditional textures allocate an order of magnitude more storage space thanthe procedural approach. Despite this, renderings times in CET remained similar. In tworendering tests, the procedural texture was measured to be 9% faster in the first test, and 3.4% slower in the second test. In conclusion, procedural texture have many benefits thatcompanies such as Configura could take advantage of.

Le recueil de nouvelles Sur le fil est traversé par le motif de la perte : perte de la beauté, de l'être aimé, d'un enfant, d'une capacité physique ou psychologique. Les personnages, souvent brisés, écorchés par l'existence, tentent de se sortir de leur état qui devient insupportable. Plusieurs d'entre eux vivent isolément ou se forgent une carapace qui les protège du regard et du jugement d'autrui. Ils évoluent dans l'intimité de leur silence, là où l'émotion se déploie avec force. La seconde section du mémoire, qui porte sur la nouvelle intimiste québécoise contemporaine, donne une définition de ce genre littéraire en se basant sur le recueil Cet imperceptible mouvement d'Aude. Ce livre, où le langage parvient à montrer les séismes intérieurs des personnages, à transgresser le sens d'un mot pour atteindre une connaissance intuitive, sensible, constitue une source d'inspiration inépuisable pour mon travail d'écriture et une référence profonde pour ma réflexion sur le genre.

A pesquisa busca compreender se e como a trajetória das burocracias municipais ligadas à circulação viária teve e tem efeito sobre o destino das políticas públicas de mobilidade urbana em São Paulo. Os achados permitem argumentar que o insulamento e a capacitação da Companhia de Engenharia de Tráfego (CET) quando de sua fundação nos anos 1970 lhe possibilitaram estabelecer e manter um paradigma de política o paradigma da fluidez do automóvel. Esse paradigma, por sua vez, impacta negativamente o desempenho do transporte coletivo viário, administrado por uma burocracia historicamente menos capacitada (SPTrans). Programas recentes que enfrentaram o paradigma da fluidez do automóvel são compreendidos como resultado do sucesso do poder executivo municipal em ativar, no sentido da mudança, o trabalho de ambas burocracias (CET e SPTrans). Além de procurar avolumar a agenda de pesquisas sobre Estado e políticas públicas, a presente dissertação pretende ampliar as explicações oferecidas para o crítico status quo da mobilidade urbana em São Paulo, propondo a incorporação da análise de políticas de circulação viária à esparsa investigação sobre mobilidade urbana feita pelas ciências sociais. / This research attempts to understand if and how the trajectory of municipal bureaucracies linked to road circulation impact the destiny of urban mobility policies in São Paulo. Evidence leads us to argue that the insulation and empowerment of the Traffic Engineering Company (CET in Portuguese) at the time of its foundation in the 1970s allowed it to establish and maintain a policy paradigm the paradigm of automobile flow. This paradigm impacts negatively the performance of road collective transport, run by a historically less empowered bureaucracy (SPTrans). Recent programs confronting the paradigm of automobile flow are understood to be the result of the success of the municipal executive power in inducing the work of both bureaucracies toward change. Besides intending to add to the research agenda on the State and public policy, this dissertation aims to broaden the explanations regarding the critical status of urban mobility in São Paulo, suggesting the inclusion of the analysis of road-circulation policies in the sparse investigation of urban mobility done by the social sciences.
