Godtagbarhet och önskvärdhet i dagens digitala läromedel : En jämförelse mellan tryckta och digitala läromedel inom samhällskunskapsämnet

Gustafsson, Tova January 2022 (has links)
We are currently witnessing a trend in which schools are transitioning from using traditional, printed textbooks to digital books. The digitalisation brings both advantages and disadvantages, wherefore it is interesting to analyse and discuss variables that may support this transition. The aim of this study is to analyse and compare digital and printed versions of textbooks for social science courses in Swedish upper secondary education, in order to investigate whether the digital versions contain tools, features and/or additions made possible by their digital nature that make them preferable to their printed counterparts. The study is based on Fred Davis’ 1986 technology acceptance model and the idea that variables related to the usability of a technological device can serve to explain our attitude towards it. The results of the qualitative content analysis show that the digital textbooks do indeed contain a number of technology-based tools, features and additions that allow for individual customisation and make the material more inclusive as it adheres to different learning strategies that students prefer or even need. /
Godkännande datum: 2022-06-02

ENTREPRENÖRSKAP I DEN SVENSKA GYMNASIESKOLAN : Hur kan entreprenörskap implementeras inom samhällskunskapen? / Entrepreneurship in the Swedish upper secondary school. : How can entrepreneurship be implemented within civics?

Danielsson, Micaela January 2023 (has links)
In 2011, the Swedish upper secondary school curriculum underwent a reform, which resulted in entrepreneurship being integrated into all subjects. However, entrepreneurship is not explicitly mentioned in the purpose or central contents of civics, raising questions about how it should be integrated within the subject. By mapping the existing research in the field, the objective of this study is to problematize and investigate opportunities and challenges regarding the implementation of entrepreneurship as part of the civics subject in Swedish upper secondary education. The research suggests that a type of learning called value-creating learning is beneficial for developing students' entrepreneurial skills and fits well with the dual purpose of civics education. In civics, one of the two main goals is to teach the fundamental scientific theories of the subject. Value-creating learning, which is practical and pragmatic in line with the theory of pragmatism, helps students connect these theories with real-life applications. From the perspective of the theory of situated learning, value-creating learning can offer a new social environment for students to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and adopt entrepreneurial norms through interactions beyond the classroom. Moreover, this approach fulfills the second goal of social studies, as it prepares students to become active and engaged citizens in a democratic society.

Constituting Democracy at Every Turn of Talk: Conversation Analytic Accounts of Political Town Halls

Yu, Di January 2024 (has links)
Recent years have witnessed a slow but persistent erosion of the democratic governing of the U.S. Political scientists have identified several severe threats against the American democracy, including the spread of misinformation, the impact of negative partisanship, and the lack of political belonging for marginalized groups. While research on these threats abounds at the macro level, what remains under researched are the conduct of ordinary people as they navigate these issues and exercise civic rights. From the micro-analytic perspective of Conversation Analysis and Membership Categorization Analysis, this dissertation examines the practices that ordinary citizens and U.S. Members of Congress (MOCs) use to navigate these issues. 50 recordings of town hall meetings were collected from social media pages of the MOCs’ offices from 24 US States with the majority being House Representatives and several Senators. The dissertation addresses, on the one hand, how citizens navigate the following issues: introducing misinformation as part of one’s town hall contribution, (re)producing negative partisanship, and (re)producing exclusionary stances towards minoritized groups; and on the other, how MOCs respond to these issues. First, citizens assert epistemic superiority or appeal to rationality when bringing in factually unfounded information to town hall contributions. MOCs may choose to endorse, sidestep, or refute the misinformation when responding. Secondly, citizens present irreconcilable alternatives, presuppose a zero-sum game, or ascribe categories of threats to the opposing party. MOCs can choose to neutralize or upgrade the negative partisanship and even initiate it on their own. Finally, citizens assign categories of immorality against minoritized groups or establish their own religious superiority for maintaining exclusionary stances. MOCs may disalign with such stances by offering contesting categories, redirecting the focus of discussion, or disaffiliating with the citizens’ exclusionary stance via a telling. With the perspective of “motivated looking,” this dissertation is a continued effort in critically informed EMCA research and can be used to strengthen research on participatory democracy by its inherently emic approach. More importantly, findings from this dissertation can be adapted by organizations, teachers, and individuals to hold or facilitate more productive conversations around civic topics.

Särskild begåvning i ämnet samhällskunskap : En kvalitativ studie om samhällskunskapslärares uppfattningar om särskilt begåvade elever i ämnet samhällskunskap / Giftedness in civics : A qualitative studiy of civics teachers' perceptions of giftedness in civics

Fahgén, Albin January 2022 (has links)
As the interest of high performance has increased both nationally and internationally, interest in different types of pupils and their needs and conditions has also increased. One type of pupil who, however, is depicturized as unexplored, not least in a Swedish, national context, are those pupuils who are gifted. The National Agency for Education has introduced work aimed at increasing awareness of giftedness and gifted pupils. The teacher is a crucial actor for the developement and well-being of gifted pupils in school. The National Agency of Education has published material aiming to support teachers in various subjects, but not for civics, were it appears to be a grey area in both research and teachers’ practice for teaching gifted pupils. The purpose of the study is to navigate this grey area by examine civics teachers’ perceptions of giftedness in civics, in order to achieve an understanding of how teachers characterize, identify, teach and stimulate gifted pupils. Three civics teachers, working at three different programs at the same upper secondary school have been interviewed though semi-structured interviews which have been analyzed though Kokot’s (1999) and Wallstrom’s (2013) characteristics of gifted pupils and Lev Vygotskij’s theory of the Zone of proximal developement. The results show that teachers percieve giftedness as a complex phenomenon that is difficult to define in general and in civics in particular. Their perceptions of giftedness is characterized by mixing with other types of pupils and the addition of other characteristics, which is in line with previous research on giftedness in general. The results indicate that the teachers percieve establishing professional relationsips with the pupils and getting to know them is important both for the identification and teaching of pupils who could be gifted.

In this dissertation, the phrase 'Christian Citizen' refers to those Christians who possess a strong sense of identity, believing in Christianity and upholding the corresponding faith while fulfilling civic responsibility and loving one's country. Through gathering and investigating into the personal letters, works and reports and so on of Liu, this dissertation renders an in-depth exploration of Liu's analysis on national character, views on citizenship and his blueprint of the Civic Education Movement. More importantly, Liu did not resort to empty talk but walked the talk, integrating faith with daily life. Throughout his whole life, including, in the early days, the Career Guidance Movement and his work at the Y.M.C.A., his presidency at the University of Shanghai and fmally the righteous action in defending against Japanese invasion during the latter days, the quality of Liu, in being loyal to one's nation, displaying care and concern for the society, living out and walking one's faith whole-heartedly was evident. His life manifested the unification of the roles and functions of a Christian citizen of one's nation, with Christian citizenship vividly lived out. Special investigation would be made into a rarely noted work headed by Liu, Y.M.C.A.'s Civic Education Movement in the 1920s, under the slogan 'Saving Nation through Character'. The origins, effectiveness and characteristics of the Movement would be explored. This study concludes with revealing, through Liu's life, the characteristics of being a Christian citizen and examines the choice of the advocators of 'Saving Nation through Character'. / There is a saying: "One more Christian, one fewer Chinese". It implies a conflict between an Ascribed Identity (Chinese) and an Achieved Identity (Christian). The former is an inherited and irreversible blood relationship while the latter is acquired after birth, being a self-converted social role. Undeniably, conflict of identities brought about bewilderment and impact to Chinese Christians in late Qing and Early Republican eras, causing identity crisis. Role identification is a process of getting to know oneself in terms of cognition, attitude and behavior, affecting daily life and instilling meaning of life. Quite a number of researches in the past emphasized the mental struggle and torture suffered by Chinese Christians under the seemingly incompatibility of the two identities. However, identity crisis is by no means impossible to do away with or integrated. This research attempts to show that ascribed identity and achieved identity can be integrated harmoniously through identify negotiation. The case of Liu Zhan-en (1896--1938) clearly demonstrated roles of being a citizen on earth and that of heavenly kingdom need not be an either-or option. Christians are not only citizens of the eternal heavenly kingdom, but also contemporary citizens on earth. One can live in serving the Lord with piety while obeying legal requirements stipulated by the government. Devoted and sound citizenship could be harmoniously integrated to be 'Christian Citizen'. / 黃錦暉. / Adviser: Yuen Sang Leung. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 73-03, Section: A, page: . / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2010. / Includes bibliographical references (p. 221-252). / Electronic reproduction.
