Produktutveckling & Digital Konstruktion av Plasmaskärande CNC-Maskin / Product developement & Digital construction of Plasma Cutting CNC-Machine

Hidling, Filip, Nilsson, Kristoffer January 2024 (has links)
The problem the work relates to is the lack of a fast and precise processing method for cutting out details from sheet metal at Blekinge Institute of Technology’s machine lab. The purpose of the work is thus to construct a plasma cutting CNC machine for the machine lab using scientific product development methods. The work is limited by requirements and specifications that are expected to be met. These requirements are that the budget for the final construction does not exceed 20.000 SEK. The outer dimensions of the construction do not exceed 1200x1200 mm and can be moved on a flat surface. Parts for the construction can be manufactured in a 3-axis CNC machine, lathe or mill. Alternatively, purchased parts are composed of standard components. The plasma cutter’s nozzle needs to be movable in three dimensions, where the height is allowed mobility from 0 - 40 mm. The precision of the CNC machine is at least 0.1 mm. The work table is required to be resistant to the torch cutting through. Cables from the motors and plasma cutter are handled in such a way that they do not disturb the machine in operation.  The methods used during the product development process are based on several steps with scoring matrices where different solutions are compared and evaluated. For modeling of the system’s components the software Autodesk Inventor has been used. For calculations of load cases, the Stress Analysis Tool in Inventor was used. Calculations have also been performed analytically and compared with those obtained from Inventor.  The work resulted in drawing documents, BOM list and digital construction for a 3-axis plasma cutting CNC machine. The result part also consists of calculations that demonstrate the construction’s strength, as well as the machine’s precision and speed. These results are judged to meet all requirements based on the given specification. The design of the CNC machine turned out to be extensive. The scope of the work was therefore limited to focus the product development process on the machine’s overall design so that the elements of the machine that were considered more critical for the machine’s function came into focus.

Distributed Control System For Cnc Machine Tools

Kanburoglu, Furkan A. 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
&ldquo / Numerically Controlled&rdquo / (NC) machine tools, which are automatically operated by encoded (digital) commands, are capable of machining components with quality and quantity. Manufacturing industry heavily depends on these machines. Many different control architectures have been adapted in today&rsquo / s CNC technology. Centralized control system is quite popular in industry due to its ease of implementation. If the number of controlled axes on a CNC machine tool (&gt / 3), increases so does the computational burden on the central processors. Hence, more powerful processors are needed. An alternative architecture, which is not commonly used in CNC technology, is the decentralized (distributed) control. In this topology, the tasks handled by the distributed controllers that are interconnected to each other by a communication network. As the need arises, a new controller can be added easily to the network without augmenting the physical configuration. Despite its attractive features, this architecture has not been fully embraced by the CNC industry. Synchronization among the axes in the coordinated motion is proven to be quite challenging. In this thesis, alternative distributed controller architecture was proposed for CNC machine tools. It was implemented on a 3-axis CNC milling machine. Open-loop control performance was investigated under various conditions. Different communication protocols along with different physical communication interfaces and a number of controller hardware were devised. An industry-standard network (RS-485) was set up by interconnecting these distributed controllers. Different data transmission protocols were devised in order to establish appropriate communication methods. Also, computer software (a.k.a. graphical user interface), which can coordinate the interconnected controllers, interpret NC part programs and generate reference position data for each axis, was designed within the scope of this thesis.

Eddelid, Pontus, Töyrä, Mikael January 2023 (has links)
Building information modeling (BIM) is a term that has existed for more than 20 years and is still developing. BIM utilizes enhanced digital models with attributes that focus on adding and sharing information. BIM is very costly to implement, limitingits use to mainly the larger companies. Thus, BIM has not been as widespread regarding smaller businesses. This case study explores the area of digital integration of a BIM-model of a CNC-machine in a smaller manufacturing company. With the aid of a Trimble X12 and terrestrial laser scanning, the study investigated the process of creating a scaled down BIM-model detailing a selected CNC-machine by using point clouds and RGB-images in the software Autodesk Inventor. The data collection, execution, and point cloud quality were analysed with a quantitative process along with RMS-calculations of measurements in the point cloud to reference measurements. The information assigned to the model was according to the company's needs. Using semi-structured interviews, the area of BIM and digital twins regarding the process, methods and challenges were discussed.  The point cloud was processed in Autodesk ReCap for further modeling and had an average overlap of 56 %, an average uncertainty of 0,5 mm with an RMS-value of the CNC-machines point cloud of 6,5 mm. Terrestrial laser scanning proved to be insufficient when it comes to scanning the CNC-machine, as it had multiple reflective and dark surfaces, which prevented a low level of uncertainty. Thus this study proposes several other techniques that can be combined with TLS to improve the point cloud quality, which will require further research. The BIM-model was enriched with information by using Inventors' drawing features. These were then presented in different views together with tables of information and dimensions after the company’s chosen information. The drawings, BIM-models and workflow were then evaluated with the Aknes Mekaniska company. In terms of its level of detail The BIM-model proved to be superfluous, for the company’s interests. The model took two weeks to produce, which was deemed too costly for the company in question. But the information attached to the model resulted in positive thoughts from the company regarding future BIM-integration, specifically in maintenance and supplementing documentation of older or modified machines. In summary, the results of the study points to the need of further research of digital integration in smaller manufacturing companies.
