It has its own characteristics influenced by local folklore. The songs the dances, the cantorias, the masses and the profane entertainment, are the main attractions of this folguedo. By monitoring the festivities since 1999, it was possible to see the changes and transformations that occurred in that event. The symbols give the forms and religious dimension to this popular event. The coronation of King, Queen and cuts parade with all its devotion to Catholic saints. It is in the form of devotional family tradition, we can look for possible explanations as to their origin, their imagination and their verbal memory, to stay that culture. Our source for drinking is a manifestation of that family, people who work for the continuation of that tradition. / O congado é, sem dúvida, uma das principais manifestações populares e religiosas da cidade de Conselheiro Lafaiete e em toda Minas Gerais, pois apresenta características próprias influenciadas pelo folclore local. As músicas, as danças, as cantorias, as missas e os divertimentos profanos constituem as principais atrações desse folguedo. Ao acompanhar os festejos, desde 1999, foi possível observar as modificações e transformações ocorridas nessa manifestação. Os símbolos dão as formas e dimensão religiosa a esta manifestação popular. A coroação de Rei, Rainha e suas cortes desfilam com toda devoção aos santos católicos. É na forma devocional da tradição familiar que podemos buscar possíveis explicações quanto à sua origem, seu imaginário, sua memória e oralidade, para permanência dessa cultura. A nossa fonte para beber dessa manifestação é uma família, pessoas que trabalham para a continuidade dessa tradição.

This study aimed to compare the concept of transmedia storytelling by Henry Jenkins with Mikhail Bakhtin’s language theory by means of the hypothesis of that transmedia storytelling might be a bakhtinian speech genre. For this reason, we considered Captain American: the winter soldier (Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, 2014) and its narrative expansion produced in comic, short motion videos, television series and video games. Besides analyzing the motion picture, we sought to observe in which way the three speech genre elements (theme, style and compositional content) behaved in each narrative expansion of the motion picture in comparison to the character Captain America’s narratives not linked to the motion. As a result, we noticed that, while each narrative genre element not linked to the motion behaved independently, the linked narrative elements behaved similarly leading us to the conclusion that transmedia storytelling can be considered a bakhtinian speech genre. / O atual mercado do entretenimento encontra-se dominado por grandes grupos midiáticos cujo alcance abrange desde a produção, passando pela distribuição até a exibição de conteúdo em diversas plataformas e suportes, movimentando altos valores. Nesse cenário, o presente trabalho buscou cotejar o conceito de Narrativa Transmídia, tal como formulado de Henry Jenkins, com os estudos de linguagens de Mikhail Bakhtin, por meio da hipótese de que a narrativa transmídia pode se configurar como um gênero bakhtiniano do discurso. Para tal, tomamos como objeto da pesquisa o filme Capitão América 2: o soldado invernal (Captain America: the winter soldier, Anthony Russo e Joe Russo, 2014) e suas expansões narrativas produzidas em formato de história em quadrinhos, curtametragem, série televisiva e jogo eletrônico. Além de analisar o longa-metragem, buscamos observar de que maneira os três elementos constituintes do gênero do discurso (tema, estilo e forma composicional) comportam-se em cada uma das expansões narrativas do longa-metragem em comparação com narrativas do personagem Capitão América não vinculadas ao longa-metragem. Como resultado notamos que, enquanto os elementos do gênero de cada uma das narrativas não vinculadas comportam-se de forma independente entre si, os elementos de cada um dos gêneros das expansões narrativas ligadas ao longa-metragem comportam-se de forma bastante semelhante, o que nos levou a concluir que a narrativa transmídia pode ser considerada um gênero bakhtiniano do discurso.

Esta pesquisa intentou compreender as experiências destes sujeitos em busca de riqueza e distinção social na Salvador setecentista, suas condições materiais e os perigos enfrentados na lida no mar. Por fim, analiso a vida econômica desses sujeitos que além de comandar as embarcações, faziam o comércio na costa africana para os proprietários das embarcações, para outras pessoas e para eles mesmos, uma vez que eles também investiam no tráfico de escravos. Thesis advisor: Celeste Wells / This paper analyzes the rights and privileges Black Widow and Captain Marvel are afforded in their respective films coupled with audience perception to understand how that might inform the future of the action heroine genre. There is a stark contrast between the reception of Black Widow and Captain Marvel that is best understood through the release timing of the films along with the character’s plotline within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Regardless, the rights and privileges each character is afforded in both films demonstrate a dimension of the female experience that had not been fully realized in the MCU prior to their release. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides a multitude of leadership opportunities to its members. Although many valuable leadership training resources are available, the Book of Mormon is surprisingly absent as a source material on leadership. Written by and about leaders in the ancient Americas, it seems like the Book of Mormon should contain important principles on how to lead within the context of building God’s kingdom that could be instructive. The Book of Mormon was not preserved to teach modern leadership styles, nor does its usefulness depend on how it does or does not connect to these leadership theories. However, an analysis of the leadership qualities and practices exhibited by leaders in the Book of Mormon could help leaders in the Church to use the Book of Mormon for inspiration and guidance.This paper analyzed the leadership decisions exhibited by Captain Moroni and identified remarkable similarities to transformational leadership and its four components. Nephi, on the other hand, showed a servant leader mentality. Both of these leaders achieved remarkable levels of success, consistent with the current literature on both styles of leadership.

On 10 February 1964 during naval night exercises off the south coast of Australia, the destroyer HMAS Voyager was lost after colliding with the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne. 82 men were killed. Following the collision, there were two Royal Commissions that sustained a political controversy that lasted for over four years. This thesis examines the loss of Voyager as a watershed in the operational and administrative history of the RAN and as a major event in Australian national history. This study has four broad objectives: to describe the loss of Voyager and the long running controversy that accompanied the disaster; to offer a convincing explanation of the causes of the collision and why two royal commissions concluded that the causes for the disaster were inexplicable; to assess the effect on the RAN, in terms of specific reforms and its influence on Service culture and professional ethos, of the disaster and the inquiries that followed; and finally, to analyse the loss of Voyager as a media and political cause celebre in Australian history. As so little has been written about Voyager using primary sources, this thesis was committed to detailed description of events as well as analysis of themes. This thesis draws upon an extensive body of primary source material in the form of official naval and Royal Commission records to which complete access was given; several large collections of private papers; over one hundred interviews with principal participants; and comprehensive files of press cuttings. The discussion seeks to demonstrate that a series of naval accidents preceding the loss of Voyager contributed in a substantial way to shaping the public reaction to, and political handling of, the disaster; that the method of inquiry played a major role in generating public and political disquiet; that the collision was both a catalyst and stimulus to change in naval operations and reform in naval administration; that the inability of two Royal Commissions to ascertain the causes of the collision and then to public suspicion of a cover-up; and, that the collision was most probably caused by the incorrect relaying of a tactical signal on the bridge of Voyager. The loss of HMAS Voyager appears to be a key event in the development of the RAN, not as a direct result of the collision or its causes, but as a consequence of its long and controversial aftermath.

The large scale retailer with a strong retail brand and sufficient critical mass in the market place may reach a pivotal point in its development when the directors can address the question: “Does the company want to get directly involved in the functions of centralised buying, logistics and supply chain management?” This thesis takes one such company and expands in some detail about its growth towards excellence in the techniques of retail supply chain change. The evolution and critical decision moments provide an in depth case study for others to use as a benchmark. Its purpose is to examine the role of the retailer as a channel captain; a concept from an earlier marketing era, whose origins it reveals. It takes that learning together with contemporary supply chain thinking and examines real retail supply chain events in Tesco. The results of matching the new and old academic theory with practitioner events confirm that the channel captain is the retailer. It demonstrates that retailers can make the transition into that leadership position and apply supply chain management skills to competitive advantage. This can become a strategic tool both at national and international levels. The principles of this thesis could be used or applied in research in three areas: in depth with Tesco; in breadth, exporting expertise to other retailers; globally with retailers extending the operations internationally and suppliers seeking to trade with European retailers.
