Symbol and Artifact: Jungian Dynamics at McLuhan's Technological InterfaceGlick, Mike Amana 01 January 1976 (has links)
Our goal was to establish some form of interpretation between the analytical work of Carl Jung in depth psychology and the views of Marshall McLuhan regarding the impact of media. It was hoped that such a correlation of contrasting viewpoints would yield additional insight in the study of mass reactions to media.
In accomplishing this purpose a “universe” based upon analytical psychology was juxtaposed with an expressly “McLuhanesque” analysis of media and technological effects. After establishing correlations between the major dynamics of the two systems, several functional conclusions were reached. These are: (1) that media have an inescapable influence, (2) that media sustain consciousness as their content, (3) that media take a major role in the functions of the unconscious, (4) that media participate in the integration between internal and external, and (5) that media directly effect the requirements for and suitability of symbolic vehicles.
These conclusions are the product of correlations between two apparently dichotomous systems; one developed primarily through analyses of external effectors, and the other, primarily through analyses of internal elements. Since our conclusions are not in disagreement with current views in the field, the outcome of our research is in keeping with our goal of adding to available material dealing with the analysis of mass reactions to media.

<p>Bruno K. Öijer is one of Sweden's well known poets. He belongs to a poetic avant-garde and made his debut in 1973. Many literature researchers and reviewers have focused on Öijer as person and poet. I will discuss Öijer's authorship in relation to literary traditions, such as orphic tradition, avant-garde and modernsim, surrealism and the outsider definition. But the primary aim of my essay is to focus on what message the poet conveys to the readers. In my opinion, many of Öijer's poems are about finding one self through listening to one's inner world. My thesis is that Öijer has reform plans for the human beings and the world. Öijer's poems are about the New man who listens to his inner world and who sees through the power of commercialism and politicians' authority. The New man is the only one who can make our planet a better place. My thesis is based on Carl Gustav Jung's psychology, which focal point is that the human being is going through several metamorphoses in life. Jung calls his theory the individuation process. I will also discuss Jung's theory about the visionary poem. I find Öijer's poem <em>Från En Demons Båge - fyra filmmonologer </em>a poem which gives the readers a glimps into another world that we today can't comprehend.</p>

Blue Horses and Illuminating the Shadow : a novel manuscript and exegesisBongers, Christine Mary January 2008 (has links)
The novel manuscript Blue Horses (published as Dust, by Random House Australia under its Woolshed Press Imprint, July 2009) focuses on a dusty corner of 1970’s Queensland in this evocative tale of family, shadows that hang over from childhood and beauty found in unexpected places. Its protagonist, Cecilia Maria, was named after saints and martyrs to give her something to live up to. “Over my dead body,” she vows. Her battles with a six-pack of brothers and the despised Kapernicke girls from the farm next door teach her an unforgettable lesson that echoes down through the years. Now she’s heading back to where it all began, with teenagers Jed and Jenna reluctantly in tow. She plans to dance on a grave and track down some ghosts. Instead she learns a new lesson at the gravesite of an old enemy.
The exegesis examines Jung’s concept of the Shadow Archetype as a catalyst for individuation in writing for young adults. It discusses the need to re-vision Jung’s work within a feminist framework and contrasts it to Julia Kristeva’s work on the abject. Alyssa Brugman’s Walking Naked and Sonya Hartnett’s Sleeping Dogs are analysed in relation to these concepts and lead into my own creative reflections on, and justification for, use of the Shadow conceptual framework. In following my shadow and establishing a creative dialogue between my conscious intent and unconscious inspirations, I have discovered a writing self that is “other” to the professional writer persona of my past.
