Background: Overweight is a health problem throughout the western world. Child health care (CHC) nurses and school nurses meet many children and their families and have the opportunity to work with prevention. The purpose of this study was to investigate the CHC - and school nurse´s experiences and reflections in the work on obesity in children. The aim was also to investigate the structural conditions CHC- and school nurse feel the need for this work. Method: The study had a qualitative approach with descriptive design. The data has been collected through semi structured interviews with eight child health care nurses and eight school nurses. The main result: In their daily work with overweight the CHC- and school nurses work with prevention against obesity by providing information about good habits. Obesity is identified though regular health checks. If overweight is identified the nurse tries along with the parents to find possible causes and actives against overweight. CHC- tries in her work with overweight children to strengthen and guide parents in their parenting role. The school nurse believes that obesity is about the lifestyle in the whole family and it’s the parents´ responsibility. Obesity is a sensitive topic as it has with self-esteem to do. The work with overweight children is about working together towards the same goal. Conclusion: Obesity is a sensitive topic. It is important with an active parental role in the work with obesity children. CHC- and school nurses have the opportunity to work preventively against children obesity. The school nurses would like to have more time to work with overweight in children and to reduce the complications that overweight and obesity can result.

The aim of this study was to find out what new parents think about parental leave, parental education, the child welfare center and the prenatal clinic. The main focus was on what role the care system played and to what extent the father was involved. Eleven parents were interviewed and the findings were analysed and put into different themes. The result showed that most of the parents were satisfied with the care given at the child welfare center and the prenatal clinic. The participants also thought they were well treated by the nurses and midwives during the encounters. Both parents felt equaly involved while talking to the midwife. All of the parents wanted to have parental leave to some extent and the main reason was that they wanted to spend time with their child. In half of the cases mothers used the greater part of the parental leave. Both breast-feeding and economical aspects were mentioned to be reasons for this. The participants felt that the child welfare center and the prenatal clinic strongly recommended breast-feeding which contributes to the fact that breast-feeding still is a key aspect in the decision on which parent who is going to stay at home with the child during the fist period. All of the parents thought that the visit to the delivery department was the best part during the parental education, they also appreciated meeting other people in the same situation. The general information given during the regular meetings were things that many of the participants already knew and could for that reason have been more detailed.</p>

Significado da ética e bioética ao cuidar da criança e sua família no contexto ambulatorial: perspectiva do enfermeiro / Significado da ética e bioética ao cuidar da criança e sua família no contexto ambulatorial: perspectiva do enfermeiro / Meaning of ethics and bioethics to take care of the child and its family in the outpatient setting: infirm' perspectiveAna Paula Rocha Gomes 19 February 2014 (has links)
The study proposes to reflect and rethink about the adoption of professional attitude supported on ethics and bioethics to take care of the human being and, in particular children and their families in the outpatient setting . In this perspective, the care of pediatric nursing must have a foundation in one act that considers the limitations in recognizing the stages of development and the growth of the child, as well as respect for human dignity, without violating the ethical and bioethical principles. Therefore, the object of study is the ethics and bioethics in nursing care to a child and its family in the outpatient setting. The objectives are: describing how nurses relate the ethical and bioethical issues to take care of children and their families in the outpatient setting and also to discuss the nursing care to children and their families in the outpatient setting in the light of ethical and bioethical issues. This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The scenario for its realization took place in the outpatient clinic of a pediatric hospital in the municipal health and outpatient clinic of a university hospital, both located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, attended by 13 nurses. For the interpretation of the empirical material content analysis of Bardin was used in thematic and interpreted in the light of ethical and bioethical issues. As results have emerged 02 categories: Ethical and Bioethical issues that guide the care of the child and his family. In addition to that, insertion of ethical and bioethical issues in nursing care practices. In referring to the ethical and bioethical aspects nurses to care for children and their families in the outpatient setting attempt to respect the individuality, privacy and confidentiality family decisions in treating children, are guided in laws in force as the code of ethics, which has as its fundamental principles: rights, responsibilities, and duties pertaining to the ethical conduct of nursing bans. Regarding the inclusion of ethical and bioethical aspects nurses assess, identify and recognize the different situations of the children when they arrive at the clinic prioritizing care with risk rating. In this sense, to accept the child and his family used as a strategy to verbal and nonverbal communication and the importance of the listening and also the hearing of the child during care. The study points to the importance of the work of nurses in caring for children and their families in the outpatient setting guided not merely the actual legislation that supports the professional ethical conduct, but especially in the appreciation and recognition on the integration of bioethical principles as: autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence and justice in the view of the inclusion of human rights as a citizen. Thus, the full and individualized assistance, child-centered and family will be held aimed at guaranteeing their rights as citizens to be included throughout the care of the process.

The main purpose of this study is to examine how some child health nurses work to illuminate and detect postpartum depression among new fathers. The study's empirical material is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews. A total of eight child health nurses were interviewed and seven of the interviews have been used to present the study's results. The theoretical framework consists of Travelbees Nursing theory, Von Bertalanffys General Systems theory, and Antonovsky's SOC. The result shows that the child health nurses are not actively working to illuminate and detect postpartum depression among new fathers, but some of them occasionally have offered the father an EPDS-screening or conversation with the father. All of the child health nurses would however like an implementation of continuous conversation with fathers in the base program for child health nurses, that they in the future will have the tools that they think are needed in order to work more actively to detect the possible psychiatric health of the father.
