Influential Client Factors: Understanding and Organizing Therapists' Perceptions Of Client Factors That Influence Reported Outcome of Therapy

Researchers and clinicians report that they think the client is the most influential component in determining the outcome of therapy. Although a variety of studies have examined the impact of various client factors on the outcome of couple therapy, this research is not cohesive and produces inconsistent results. The purpose of this multi-method study is to present a sense of the range and depth of client factors that influence the outcome of couple therapy. The use of qualitative and quantitative methods allowed the data to build on existing research while expanding the range of client factors considered. Data were gathered using a dynamic, web-based survey which assigned participants to discuss a case of successful or unsuccessful couple therapy. Participants provided their own descriptions of influential client characteristics. Participants also rated how important they thought several literature-based client factors were. Quantitative data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, principal components analysis, and logistic regression. Qualitative data were analyzed in two stages, using content analysis. Results indicated that couples can be conceptualized by five arenas of couple focus; these arenas accurately predicted whether participants were discussing a successful or unsuccessful case of couple therapy 85.9% of the time. Regarding individual client characteristics, in general, clients whose couple therapy was successful tended to be open to each other and committed to the relationship and to therapy. Unsuccessful couple therapy tended to focus on a greater number of individual issues. Couple dynamics characteristics differed according to outcome groups; participants described four types of couple dynamics that influenced couple therapy to be unsuccessful. Data showed that many client factors influenced the outcome of couple therapy, and that uncommon client characteristics could be vital to the outcome of some cases. Participants described a client's life events as impacting the outcome of couple therapy by increasing one person's vulnerability to his or her partner. If the partner acted in a way that created a sense of connection or support, this contributed to successful couple therapy. The results are presented in connection to previous research, when possible. Finally, implications for theory, research, and clinical work with couples are discussed. / Ph. D.

In the engineering sector, global competition will require corporations to create agile partnerships to use each other’s engineering resources in mutually profitable ways. The Internet offers a medium for accessing such resources in a globally networked environment. However, remote access of resources require a secure and mutually trustable environment, which is lacking in the basic infrastructure on which the Internet is based. Fortunately, efforts are under way to provide the required security services on the Internet. This thesis presents a model for making distributed engineering software tools accessible via the Internet. The model consists of an extensible clientserver system interfaced with the engineering software tool on the server-side. The system features robust security support based on public-key and symmetric cryptography. No / The chapter explores the current landscape in the public sector, considering complications and constraints inherent in delivering service and performance improvement. Cost challenges are key factors for all departments, as are wider societal changes, and have led to changes to delivery models. UK government cuts have already been the biggest in the G7 group of major developed economies, and more are planned. Departmental structure, culture and behaviour as well as the scale of service delivery, present operational challenges not just internally but also to the consultants engaged to help. Consideration is also given to commercial constraints which govern the contracting process and how that in turn affects consultant:client interaction and outcomes. Taking into account the salient features which must be overcome, the chapter concludes by suggesting how the constraints and complications can be minimised or mitigated by adopting alternative approaches more attuned to operating within a public service environment.

The use of ERP consultancy is becoming essential to the enterprises in China. However, many issues have risen in the process of ERP implementation. This paper aims to investigate the major obstacles in the way of ERP implementation among ERP consultancy and client organisations. It has found that the quality of Chinese consultancy is far from that expected as leading ERP products were not widely mastered by consulting firms. Efficient information system is essential for companies to stay in the competition. However, transparent information flow across functional areas is hard to achieve in China. A good understanding of ERP system and business processes can help Chinese enterprises to ease unrealistic expectations from ERP implementation.

Auditors’ Information Search and Documentation: Does Knowledge of the Client Preference Or PCAOB Accountability Pressure Matter?

Auditors regularly make judgments regarding whether a client’s chosen accounting policy is appropriate and in accordance with generally accepted accounting Principles (GAAP). However, to form this judgment, auditors must either possess adequate topic-specific knowledge or must gain such knowledge through information search. This search is subject to numerous biases, including a bias toward confirmation of a client’s preference. It is important to further our understanding of bias in auditors’ information search to identify its causes and effects. Furthering our understanding is necessary to provide a basis for recommending and evaluating a potential debiaser, such as accountability. the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) annually inspects the audit files of selected engagements, which introduces a new form of accountability within the auditing profession. This new form of accountability has come at great cost, however, there is little empirical evidence regarding its effects on auditors’ processes. As such, it is important to understand whether the presence of accountability from the PCAOB is effective in modifying auditors’ search behaviors to diminish confirmation bias. Using an online experiment, I manipulate client preference (unknown vs. known) and PCAOB accountability pressure (low vs. high) and measure search type (information –focus or decision-focus), search depth (shallow or deep) and documentation quality. I investigate whether auditors’ information search behaviors differ based on knowledge of client’s preference and in the presence of accountability from an expected PCAOB inspection. I also investigate whether differences in auditors’ information search behaviors influence documentation quality, which is the outcome of greatest concern to the PCAOB. I hypothesize and find a client preference effect on information search type such that auditors with knowledge of the client preference consider guidance associated with the client’s preference longer than those without knowledge of the client’s preference. Contrary to expectations, PCAOB accountability pressure does not influence information search depth. with respect to documentation quality, I find that auditors engaged in a more information-focused search have higher documentation quality. Further, as expected, auditors who initially engage in a decision-focus and deep search have higher documentation quality than those auditors who initially engaged in a decision-focused but shallow search.

Protection against malicious JavaScript using hybrid flow-sensitive information flow monitoring

Modern web applications use several third-party JavaScript libraries to achieve higher levels of engagement. The third-party libraries range from utility libraries such as jQuery to libraries that provide services such as Google Analytics and context- sensitive advertisement. These third-party libraries have access to most (if not all) the elements of the displayed webpage. This allows malicious third-party libraries to perform attacks that steal information from the end-user or perform an action without the end-user consent. These types of attacks are the stealthiest and the hardest to defend against, because they are agnostic to the browser type and platform of the end-user and at the same time they rely on web standards when performing the attacks. Such kind of attacks can perform actions using the victim’s browser without her permission. The nature of such actions can range from posting an embarrassing message on the victim’s behalf over her social network account, to performing online biding using the victim’s account. This poses the need to develop effective mechanisms for protecting against client-side web attacks that mainly target the end-user. In the proposed research, we address the above challenges from information flow monitoring perspective by developing a framework that restricts the flow of information on the client-side to legitimate channels. The proposed model tracks sensitive information flow in the JavaScript code and prevents information leakage from happening. The main component of the framework is a hybrid flow-sensitive security monitor that controls, at runtime, the dissemination of information flow and its inlining. The security monitor is hybrid as it combines both static analysis and runtime monitoring of the running JavaScript program. We provide the soundness proof of the model with respect to termination-insensitive non-interference security policy and develop a new security benchmark to establish experimentally its effectiveness in detecting and preventing illicit information flow. When applied to the context of client-side web-based attacks, the proposed model provides a more secure browsing environment for the end-user. / Graduate

Pretherapy Religious Value Information its Influence on Stated Perceptions of and Willingness to See a Counselor

This study sought to determine the influence of pretherapy religious value information upon potential clients' (a) perceptions of a counselor, (b) willingness to see a counselor and (c) confidence of counselor helpfulness. Two hundred and ten undergraduate college students volunteered for the study. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups and given varying amounts and types of written information about a counselor. Group 1 received just the counselor's credentials. Group 2 received the same information plus statements about the counselor's beliefs about counseling and his therapeutic approach. Group 3 received the same information as group 2 plus a statement of the counselor's religious values. Subjects then viewed a short video tape of the counselor in a counseling session. Results of statistical treatment of dependent variables indicated that subjects' perceptions of the counselor, willingness to see the counselor, and confidence of counselor helpfulness were not influenced by the written information, including the statement of religious values that the subjects received before viewing the video tape of the counselor. Implications and recommendations for further research are discussed.

Relationship of Sex Role Orientation to Preference for Type of Response in Counseling

This study compared beginning and advanced counselor education students on self-reported sex-role orientation and preference for selected counseling responses. It was assumed that sex-role socialization leads to restrictive attitudes that make it difficult for students to acquire and use selected interpersonal counseling skills. It was anticipated that counselor education training programs would provide a means for students to overcome the limitations imposed by sex-role socialization practices. Subjects in this study were 87 counselor education graduate students, 34 advanced students enrolled in the final two courses required for the master's degree and 53 beginning students enrolled in the first course in the master's degree sequence. Based on scores obtained from the Bern Sex-Role Inventory, subjects were divided into three groups: (1) feminine, (2) androgynous, (3) masculine. The Response Alternatives Questionnaire was used to determine subjects' preference for counseling responses.

Nonverbal Power Cues

Studies investigating aspects of social influence or power in counseling settings have examined the relationship between nonverbal cues and social influence or power. This study investigated perceptions of power, responsiveness, attractiveness, expertness, and trustworthiness by manipulating posture, facial expression and sex of therapist. After viewing photographs of stimulus therapists and listening to audio tapes, 96 male and 98 female undergraduates completed the Counselor Rating Form and a questionnaire measuring therapists' power and responsiveness. Results indicated that facial expression was more salient than posture. Smiling decreased ratings of power and increased ratings of attractiveness, responsiveness, and trustworthiness. Open posture was seen as more attractive and more powerful than closed posture. Surprisingly, females were viewed as more powerful than males. Other gender differences were found only in interaction with other variables.

Title: Analysis of employment agencies Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to explore employment agencies on Czech labour market and find out its functionality and credibility from the side of job seeker. One of the constitutive aim was also using the marketing method Mystery client. The term functionality of employmenet agencies was evaluated as attitude and ability of employment agency to mediate good job for job seekers. Methods: To obtain data, that allows to final evaluation, was used special technique of market research called Mystery client. This method represents hidden observation during job interview. The research was completed with question survey of selected staff consultants. Results: The results of the research indicated that employment agencies are mainly focused on outsourcing and are usually mediating short-term job for young and less educated people. The research also indicated that employment agencies are not able to mediate appropriate job in reached level of education. In spite of these problems, there were recommended three employment agencies that are properly able to communicate and react for job supply and demand.
