Análise prospectiva do desenvolvimento do produto nas indústrias automobilísticas de veículos comerciais instaladas no Brasil /

Kubo, Pablo Yugo Yoshiura. January 2009 (has links)
Abstract: The main objective of this Thesis is to present a prospective analysis about the tendencies of the world wide strategies of commercial vehicles' development, in relation to the current local and international scenery. It has been done a research by using the Delphi method, which consists to regulate, systematically, the presentation of questions about a specific problem to a group of specialists. In order to guarantee more representative data, it has been adopted three distinct groups: Academics, OEMs Managers and OEM's suppliers Managers. It is noticeable, after the data's analysis, that Brazil has nowadays a comfortable status on the commercial vehicles' market and also a good autonomy on product development. The specialists presented few arguments that could justify the modification of this scenery up to 2018, although there are clear evidences - like lack of qualified engineers on Brazilian market and the necessity of a better exchange of knowledge between the OEMs and Universities - that must be analyzed and suppressed, in order to guarantee the Brazilian product development sustainability in this segment.

Investigation of failures clutch drive system of concentric slave cylinder type in heavy commercial vehicles under operational conditions in Brazil.

Jairo de Lima Souza 28 July 2006 (has links)
The evolution of highway transportation of goods in the brazilian market has created new operation requirements due to the increased competition allied to the cost reduction demands. This new demands, most of them coming from globalization, have generated a significant change on the profile of heavy commercial vehicles. Fleets that were mainly composed of 4x2 tractors coupled to three wheeled semi-trailers with towing capacity of 45 tons, were in small steps exchanged by new compositions of tractors 6x2 coupled to bi-trains and road-trains with total towing capacity of 57 and 74 tons, respectively. This change have been followed by the new purchasing demands from fleet owners by lowering acquisition costs of new heavy commercial vehicles, as a consequence, most of 4x2 trucks have been adapted with tag-axles in order to increase towing capacity, which means increasing the stresses over the clutch system. On this research, a case study is developed about failures on clutch systems actuators by the concentric slave cylinder concept in the brazilian market. The research is developed by the evaluation of types of materials selected to the system components through chemical test and functionality tests carried on actual operation conditions on instrumented vehicles, keeping always the focus on the new operational demands imposed by the new profile of vehicle compositions (bi-trains and road-trains). As a final result, two alternatives are appointed to solve the failures in the brazilian market: 1. By the determination of the most failure susceptible component, it is possible to propose a mathematical and theoretical model to determine the minimum maintenance interval to the clutch actuation system by concentric slave cylinder concept. 2. Proposition of a new technical construction to the system in order to increase the robustness of the component most susceptible to the failures.

Serious occupational injuries by "accidents" : possible means of prevention and injury mitigation

Jarl, Torgny January 1989 (has links)
An analysis of the circumstances preceding severe occupational injuries as a consequence of impacts has shown that well-known risks are of great importance in 75 per cent of the cases. This indicates that the subjective cause "neglect" is common. The negligence is distributed to the same extent among employers as among employees. Negligence by the employers was defined as obvious violations according to the Law of Workers’ Safety or Regulations issued by The National Board of Occupational Health and Safety. Negligence by employees was defined as actions against specific orders or common sense. As a result of this study additional research concerning the execution of Criminal Law in occupational accidents has been carried out. The law has also been changed regarding prosecution in cases of breaking the Law on the working environment. In situations where elimination of risks is not possible it is a most important task to minimize the risk of severe injury. In four of the studies there are examples of minimization of injuries by increased usage of personal safety equipment, improved rescue and by modifying the environment. If personal safety equipment could be used in all relevant situations the incidence of severe injuries at the place of work would decrease by more than 25 per cent. However, the crucial insufficiencies as to the specifications of personal protective equipment must be emphasized. This should stimulate the development of environmental changes, thus preventing the build-up and release of potentially dangerous energy. Working alone and late rescue for other reasons, together with other circumstances following the injury made the injuries worse in a little more than 10 per cent of the cases. In the studies concerning injuries as the result of impacts in trucks and buses it is shown that a lot of trucks turn over and that a large number of injuries occur as a result of deformation of the cabins. A safety belt would offer good protection against injury in about half of the cases. Safety in trucks and buses could be improved by the introduction of a deformative zone in front of the occupants. Front designs of cab-over vehicles should be changed and the use of seat belts in trucks and buses should be made compulsory. Passive seat belts, knee bars and air bags are interesting alternatives and additions to manual seat belts for commercial drivers. / <p>Diss. / Development and application of one program in MatLab Simulink for the simulation of the performance of commercial road vehicles in sped up movement.

Alessandro Depetris 26 September 2005 (has links)
This work presents a development and application proposal of a simulation program using the software Matlab/Simulink 6.0 as an Automotive Enginnering tool, applying it for the study of the commercial vehicles performance in accelerated and uniform movement. The simulation program considers the engine maps of specific fuel consumption and torque curves and also the transmission system between the engine and the tractive wheels. The simulation program connects itself with another simulation program developed in the EESC-USP Vehicle Computation Laboratory. For the simulations were used the data of a characteristic commercial vehicle submited to various situations on horizontal and inclinated roads, when were taken relevant data like average and instant fuel consumption for each predicted scene. This work also presents vehicle operational data as engine speed, covered spaces, longitudinal velocities and accelerations, adherence and relative slip of the wheels and others. The simulation program shows a hugh potential use in the optimization, development and project phases of commercial vehicles, allowing saving of time and financial resources. The simulation program shows also a potential application in the best vehicle specification to be bought by the client considering the specific conditions of its use.

Developing Input to “Best-Value” Vehicle Procurement Practice: An Analysis of Supplier Evaluation and Selection in the U.S. Public Transportation Industry

Scott, Marc Angus January 2011 (has links)
Collectively, US public transportation systems operated 137,047 vehicles per peak period in 2008 (American Public Transportation Association 2010). Buses accounted for the largest segment among these vehicles, and the passenger van segment was second. Together, they accounted for 78% of the vehicles operated per peak period (American Public Transportation Association 2010). Due to their pervasive use in the public transportation industry, buses and vans have been the focus in various academic research studies. However, very few studies have focused on vehicle procurement. Further, none have focused on the specific vehicle procurement function of supplier evaluation and selection. The over-arching objective of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the relative importance of vehicle supplier attributes in reference to the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) “best-value” procurement initiative and the influence of these attributes on the evaluation and selction of bus and van suppliers. This research studies vehicle procurement decision-makers at public transportation agencies to determine which supplier attributes they perceive to be the most important when evaluating vehicle suppliers. Results indicate that the top five supplier attributes were quality, reliability, after-sales support, warranties and claims, and integrity. The order of these top five attributes changed according to the type of supplier being evaluated, i.e., conventional fuel vehicle supplier versus alternative fuel vehicle supplier. The reason for this change was explained as being due to the increased engineering and technological expertise required of alternative fuel vehicle suppliers. Utilizing Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), the research showed that the variation in the perception of the importance of particular supplier attributes was not generally influenced by an agency's urban classification, its vehicle fleet size, its capital expenditure level, its decision-makers' education level, or their years of experience. However, FTA region was determined to have an influence on two attributes. Utilizing a conditional logit discrete choice model, the research also found that in practice price and not quality had the highest parameter estimate and was therefore deemed most important. It was followed by quality, after-sales support, technical capability, and delivery. Further, to garner a deeper understanding of attributes' relative importance, participants in the research identified 41 attribute components and provided metrics by which to measure these components and, by extension, the attributes. This research contributes in four areas. These are government procurement initiatives, agency “best-value” procurement practice, vehicle supplier marketing, and academic research in supplier evaluation and selection in the public transportation industry.

Modélisation et optimisation de la maintenance et de la surveillance des systèmes multi-composants - Applications à la maintenance et à la conception de véhicules industriels / Modeling and optimization of multicomponent systems maintenance and monitoring - Application to commercial vehicles maintenance and re-design

Lesobre, Romain 26 March 2015 (has links)
This thesis research work focuses on the maintenance operations scheduling and the development of a design methodology for maintenance. The aim is to suggest a customized maintenance service offer for each vehicle and able to adapt to user constraints. In the transport industry, these constraints are defined by a limited number of maintenance opportunities and vehicle unplanned stops with significant financial consequences. This service offer should enable both to improve the vehicle uptime and to reduce the maintenance impact on operating costs. In this framework, the developed maintenance policy ensures, with a given risk probability, maintenance free operating periods for a multi-component system. During these periods, the system should be able to carry out all its assigned missions without maintenance actions and system fault. And the end of each period, the considered policy evaluates if a maintenance action is required to ensure maintenance-free and fault-free operation on the next period with a specified confidence level. When a maintenance action is mandatory, decision criteria considering the maintenance costs and the maintenance efficiency are used to select the operations to be performed. This form of dynamic clustering, called time-driven clustering, integrates both the component reliability models, the system structure and the available monitoring information. In our case, the monitoring information refers to the component state information and information on the component operating conditions. The process flexibility makes possible to make a maintenance decision in using different information levels for system components. The policy parameters, namely the period length and the confidence level value, are optimized based on the total maintenance cost. This cost, evaluated on a finite horizon, is composed of directs costs related to maintenance operations and indirect costs generated by system immobilizations. In order to reach a significant operating costs reduction, the maintenance policy optimization alone is not sufficient. It is essential to have a broader approach to involve the system and its maintenance since the conception. In this context, the developed design methodology suggests to prioritize the components impact on the operating costs. This prioritization is performed thanks to a defined importance factor. Then, multiple design options are evaluated by simulation in priority component. The selected options lead to reduce the operating costs. This work contains simulation results that illustrate the methods mentioned above. Moreover, a heavy vehicle sub-system is used as a test-case.

An Alternative Variable Valve Timing System for Heavy Duty Vehicles

Eriksson, Mikael, Olovsson, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
The ability to control engine valve timing has the potential to alter the engine performance over the entire operating range. The outcome of valve timing technology enables the possibility to increase efficiency, lowering emissions, increase engine torque, etc. One of the simplest ways to obtain a variable valve timing is to use cam phasers. The dynamics of a hydraulic cam phaser has been studied, three concepts with the purpose to control such an element has been developed using simulation driven product development. Focus have been on robustness, simplicity and implementation. A final concept using on/off solenoids to control a torque driven cam phaser has been designed and simulated in GT-SUITE which validated its performance and functionality. A dynamic model was built in Simulink which simulated the behaviour of the cam phaser and provided tools for optimizing the rotor design. By combining the knowledge of mechanical- and control engineering at Scania, the development process of such machine elements was effective. The outcome of this thesis has given a new perspective in understanding these components and their potentials.

Use of the Weigh-in-Motion technology for the characterization of road traffic and overloading in commercial vehicles.

Bosso, Mariana 04 July 2018 (has links)
The traffic characterization is of great importance for pavement design, as well as for prediction of its remaining service life. In fact, traffic loading is one of the major contributors for the pavement deterioration. In order to ensure pavement durability, Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems can be used to collect traffic data. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the effect on the pavements of characterizing the traffic through a Weigh-in-Motion system installed between km 948 and 949 at the Brazilian Federal Highway BR-381. The analysis of the data collected from September 2015 to February 2017 shows that approximately 85% of commercial vehicles travel on the outside slow lane (lane 2). Regarding the volume of commercial vehicles, traffic volume was lower in weekends. In addition to the daily variations, traffic patterns also presented hourly variations. The axle load distributions were obtained and analyzed for the 15 more frequent commercial vehicle categories (representing 97.3% of all the commercial traffic registered). Based on the current Brazilian laws, the results from this study have indicated a significant percentage of violation involving overloaded heavy good vehicles in the highway (23.7%). In general, most axles exceed the legal limits up to 10%, indicating that many vehicles are loaded considering the tolerance as a real gain. A method to identify overloaded truck travel patterns and loading characteristics from available HS-WIM data was proposed. The method is based on Classification and Regression Tree Analysis (CART), an analytical tool. Finally, the traffic data were correlated with the distresses observed in the experimental section constructed closer to the WIM system, where it was simulated the reduction of the useful life of pavement structures considering different load scenarios: (i) real traffic; (ii) traffic in the tolerance (considering the tolerance of 10%); and (iii) legal traffic. it was concluded that the practice of overloading on highways penalizes road transport by accelerating road degradation.

Estudo da influência do levantamento de eixos em veículos comerciais no desempenho na frenagem e na estabilidade direcional / Study of commercial vehicles elevated axle influence on braking performance and on directional stability

Vianna, Eduardo Piquera 22 March 2006 (has links)
The systems that elevate the axles of the commercial vehicles were initially developed with the objective of saving tires. The use of these systems was restricted, not causing a notable statistical effect in the vehicle safety. Due to an agreement between road concessionaires and the government, the commercial vehicles pay toll value according to the number of axles in contact with the soil on that moment, minimizing the taxes of the vehicles using this system. This practice was diffused quickly and few technical studies were accomplished focusing its influence in the vehicle safety. The elevated axles alters in a significant way the vehicle static margin of stability and the ideal distribution of the braking forces, increasing the accident risks. This work consist in deepened studies of the commercial vehicles with these systems of elevation of axles, of the technical and operational point of view, focusing the vehicle safety. For this is used as methodology mathematical models developed already in the scientific literature in vehicles examples. Parameters as the margin of stability, steer gradient, braking efficiency and others are analyzed. Likewise, the effects in the directional response during the transient maneuvers and in the initial instants of the braking. The influences of the elevation of the axes are analyzed according to norms and established requirements for ABNT and ECE R13, including annex 10, because the practice of the elevation of the axes can be infringing requirements imposed by these norms. As main conclusion these systems are prejudicial to vehicle dynamics and handling and its use could be anticipated in conceptual and design phase and in brazilian transport laws.

This work has the objective of assembling a reduced fault tree for sensitivity analysis applied to gearboxes in commercial vehicles. This reduction contains the study of the most representative statistical models for reliability evaluation of all components of the system that generate failures, being complemented with an application of factorial planning with two factors to identify the most sensible components to the variation of the parameters in the reliability distributions. Thus, fault tree was constructed from the factors: characteristic life (a) and parameters form (b) to Weibull distribution and life mean (µ) and standard deviation (s) to Normal and Lognormal distribution, for each component. With these techniques, the FTA can be reduced as well as the number of components around 30%, whose contributes directly in the improvement of the product¿s reliability, in this case, gearboxes. This method can be extended to other systems of a vehicle, allowing the statistical modeling of the system that can also contribute to the identification of the main components that are the cause or lead to the failures in specific kilometers / Mestrado / Mecanica dos Solidos e Projetos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica
